Waterproof winter coat for football mum

HGC2 · 07/10/2023 13:35

I am currently soaked to the skin and frozen watching my son pay football. I need a longish warm waterproof to get me through the season. Any recommendations for one that’s under £200?

Can’t beat the dry robe

CharlotteBog · 10/10/2023 00:07

I wear a Uniqlo ultra thin down jacket, then a down filled parka and then my hardcore Gortex walking coat. Wellies with thick socks underneath. Woolly hat and gloves. Woollen tights under jeans or a skirt.
All good.

I have spent MANY years at the side of various fields supporting my sons.

For supporting our Championship team (i.e. in a stadium with seats) I'll take my large crochet blanket, much to my sons' horror.

That said, it was sun cream we were after this Sunday!

Buttons232 · 10/10/2023 07:00

Definitely Didriksons or a dry robe type thing. I do my horse in a dry robe and it’s bloody brilliant!

I've been on the sidelines at grassroots football for about 10 years and really like the Landsend Squall jackets, I also bought some Bridgedale waterproof socks a couple of years ago which have been a complete game changer. Some sort of fleecy-lined thermal trousers on lower half - I found some Rab winter walking trousers in a sale and they are fab. Mountain Warehouse also have decent lined winter trousers

I bought this cost from Lighthouse on a mn recommendation for dog walking which seems similar in the fact that you have to stand there in all weathers!

It's completely waterproof and so so warm that unless it's a dog walk it's too hot for shopping or whatever.

It's not that spendy and it's worth the money.

AnnabelC · 10/10/2023 11:04

Take a look at Slouchy. They have similar to Dryrobe.

MarkWithaC · 10/10/2023 11:07

I don't think you can go wrong with Scandi brands; they know about wet/cold weather! They also tend to be more stylish than some labels, and often have nicer colours and more range.
Didriksons, Ilse Jacobsen, Rains etc.
They can be expensive, but they have sales, or google for them – you'll find a lot of outdoor shops/sites stock them and often put them in the sale.

Any sports mums out there that have advice on feeding kids a hot meal on the road when you have no time to stop after school?

I’d like to bring a hot dinner but don’t know how to store it, how to avoid breeding bacteria and how long I can keep it stored?

It would be pasta and meatballs, maybe chicken breast or sausages.

I have a Thermos Food Flask for DS. Anything with a sauce is good IMO. I've done pasta/pesto, spag + meatballs, curry (no rice, I take a naan), thick soup.

fiorentina · 11/10/2023 22:23

I do pesto pasta in a usual Tupperware for DC before football. Or just sandwiches, salad, fruit and cake/chocolate for energy.

I have terrible Raynards and during winter watching the kids football can be hellish. Just got great deal on this coat. It's waterproof and insulated. Absolutely cosy, warm and so comfortable. I love the colour too. I'm a size 10 but ordered the 12 so can add even more layers. I also have heated rechargeable electric socks from Amazon which are great 😁

@Bumblebeelane If you have Raynauds I can highly recommend these https://www.johnlewis.com/muck-arctic-sport-mid-high-wellington-boots/black-magenta/p5591902?size=6&s_ppc=2dx_mixed_fashion_BAU&tmad=c&tmcampid=2&gclid=CjwKCAjws9ipBhB1EiwAccEi1BHR6DkPZF5nB1H-rsSgC40AgGuP8bPdsUiP84f19jq0-4IaYpvDCBoCXlIQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds they come in a full length and different colours - I got mine cheaper than JL too. They’ve been an absolute game changer for me after years of frozen feet. If it’s extra cold then I put a pair of thermal socks on too but now have my eye on a pair of heated socks after your post!

Thanks, footwear is next on my list. Love my Wellibobs for slipping on and keeping dry but no warm in them whatsoever.
I need heat 🔥😁

Marriedandsad · 24/10/2023 13:53

TK Maxx is great, I found a coat just like you are describing from Ralph Lauren for only £140 (vs original retail price of over £300), so within your budget.

Thinkingofthings · 24/10/2023 18:12

I second this! I have something similar. This is what you mean - long duvet coat. As long as you can! It's got me through many a freezing football match sideline.

LazyDoll · 24/10/2023 18:15

Double football mum here and my trusty TNF parka has seen me through about 8 seasons and is still going strong.

Jaxhog · 24/10/2023 19:34

Another vote for Seasalt. I've had one for a couple of years, and it's lovely! So lovely, my Mum and Sis also bought one too.

M&S good move Mac type coat £99 black simple shape and actually waterproof

I’ve just ordered this and got 20% off with my Sparks Card.

I did try on a Janelle coat and kept thinking I should buy one sometime but I hopefully have enough coats now

I'm considering this one, does it come up true to size or is it oversized?

Hello, after reading through the thread I thought I’d invest in the Seasalt Janelle but it seems to be sold out everywhere! Do you think it’ll come back in stock for the winter? Many thanks
