BODEN- prices?

Yet another B thread.

Have their prices shot up?
I never buy without a discount but even so...

I've bought from them for 30 years (or however long they have been around.)

They were always on the high-ish side, but cheaper than Jigsaw, Whistle, etc.

However, now- £80 for a pair of cords? Even with 20% off that's still a lot.
Knitwear £100 when it's 50% polyester?

I think their prices have gone up a lot too OP. I got one of their catalogues through the post the other day, having not bought anything from them for probably 2-3 years and I was surprised by how expensive it is. Their winter boots used to be around £150-180, now they're more like £230. I know the CoL has gone up and every bloody thing is more expensive, but I stopped buying Boden because I felt the quality had declined, while the prices hadn't and now the prices have gone up even more.

Bloomingmagnolia · 07/10/2023 12:37

Just placed an order for my friend, including the corduroy jeans and a couple of plain tops. Prices are pretty ridiculous. I can get you a 20% code if you need.

Fatpigsinblankets · 07/10/2023 12:49

I agree. A lot of their summer stock was really over priced - well over £100 for a cotton sundress! It’s crazy. The prices have definitely gone up a lot recently. I only but things in the sale now - their sales are still pretty decent.

Jellypiece · 07/10/2023 12:56

I haven’t bought any Boden for years. Well, I have but sent it all back. I thought a couple of things looked ok in the last catalogue but it felt like much more of a faff returning stuff than it had before that I think it’s not worth the bother. I think with the continuing discounts it is still a bit cheaper than Jigsaw but I have some great jumpers from Jigsaw that have lasted me years and I don’t find Boden offers the equivalent. I would still look there first if I needed formal work trousers but since covid it’s been jeans in the office so no need.

DramaAlpaca · 07/10/2023 14:00

I'm in the EU and since Brexit Boden prices have got ridiculous. I very rarely buy from there now unless I have a 20% off code and am fairly certain I won't need to return as returns from the EU are expensive too.

Forgot to add, it's just as well I don't like most of their stuff any more. Years ago when I lived in the UK I bought a lot of Boden.

TheresaBouvey · 07/10/2023 14:46

Have a look at Jigsaw and Baukjen prices, even more crazy

ReadySalty · 07/10/2023 15:04

Quality has gone down the pan, but it's the same everywhere. Whistles is particularly bad for synthetic quality at high prices.

UltimateInteriors · 07/10/2023 15:10

I gave up buying Jigsaw ages ago except in sales with a huge reduction.

I've picked up some reasonable basics from John Lewis and their various lines like Any Day, and And Or.

Whistles’ quality has been declining for years. About 10 years ago a friend of mine (waves in case she reads this) was in a Whistles store and made a comment to a staff member about the cost of a dress considering it was made from polyester. “Oh but it’s French polyester” the staff member said.

Jk987 · 07/10/2023 18:30

I think it's frumpy fashion

BHRK · 07/10/2023 20:56

everywhere has gone up massively though. All my usual places are now silly prices - whistles, jigsaw, Boden, Sezane etc

OTM1982 · 07/10/2023 21:07

I stopped buying boden not because of the cost but because I didn't want to dress like 90 year old. It got so so frumpy

ThePoshUns · 07/10/2023 21:19

It's been a long time , 5 years or more since I bought from them. Massively overpriced. Shame I used to like the style and quality but the prices are now beyond my payscale

LadyWithLapdog · 07/10/2023 21:29

I was thinking just today when I received the Mini Boden catalogue that they must think I’m super fertile to still be having children. My oldest is in his 20s.

That will be me 💅👋

PS. Weirdly, was humming KK the other day! I miss Stuffy 😔

Jellypiece · 07/10/2023 21:56

I unsubscribed from Mini Boden emails the other day but still got a catalogue. Youngest DC is 14 and would soon as wear Mini Boden as fly to the moon

CinnamonJellyBeans · 07/10/2023 22:29

I think some of their stuff is still good value. I spend a lot of time reading the reviews before I purchase, as people usually comment on the quality.

Apart from shirts and summer dresses, I'm not so bothered about polyester; it washes well and keeps its colour. I'm happy to buy synthetic if it drapes well and is durable.

Snugglemonkey · 07/10/2023 22:42

I used to buy lots, but I got the catalogue and the mini boden one there the other day and just put them in recycling. I would not even look without a discount code. Though I do always check out mini Boden in the sale.

Parakeetamol · 08/10/2023 06:52

I'm actually finding their autumn range pretty good. Work has returned to semi formal and while tailored clothes are definitely not popular, a nice jersey dress does nicely for work uniform.

It is fairly pricey but I'm finding the same with most shops. Fat face is cheaper but in one wash the clothes are ruined.

Pimmsandstawbs · 08/10/2023 14:18

I used to really look forward to the Boden autumn catalogue years ago. Just received one which claims that they are going back to how they used to be. Most of the models now look as if they are dressed either for a Tory party conference or one of the lockdown parties in number 10! I can’t see myself buying from them again and agree about the crazy prices.

LadyWithLapdog · 08/10/2023 19:52

😂 I think that was always the “vibe”, but being a Tory is not aspirational in the current circumstances.

ArseMenagerie · 08/10/2023 21:55

Bought and returned a boden summer dress - lovely design and it was £100 ish. The quality was absolutely shit. Not lined properly and badly made with poor quality fabrics. Not a patch on M and S and 3x the price.

decionsdecisions62 · 08/10/2023 22:01

As expensive as jigsaw now but the materials are yuk. Bought a halter neck top I can't wear as the material is disgusting. Horrible, synthetic. Don't even like the patterns which I used to do.

Mamette · 08/10/2023 22:04

I haven’t bought anything for years, I looked recently and nearly bought a dress for work but the reviews were awful so I abandoned the idea.
