BODEN- prices?

Yet another B thread.

Have their prices shot up?
I never buy without a discount but even so...

I've bought from them for 30 years (or however long they have been around.)

They were always on the high-ish side, but cheaper than Jigsaw, Whistle, etc.

However, now- £80 for a pair of cords? Even with 20% off that's still a lot.
Knitwear £100 when it's 50% polyester?

I used to buy a lot of Boden, but I cant justify the cost these days! I really love their clothes, I agree their prices seem to have gone through the roof!

It had got very frumpy and also very samey - I got tired of seeing the same dresses and tops each season in different colours. It's still a bit like that and I see the sodding Breton shirts are still going strong, but with frilly cuffs now - WTF? If I worked in an office I'd probably buy a dress or two though, as their smart business wear is nice.

Amblesidebadger · 09/10/2023 10:30

I hope Boden are reading this thread. I only buy in the sale too. I bought a cotton dress that was originally £120. It's nice but in no way would justify this price.
I've stopped buying tops as they're all so short - not sure if this is an attempt to cut costs.

PenelopePlant · 09/10/2023 11:17

I love boden (I'm 34 if that makes a difference) but I only buy their dresses. And only when they're heavily discounted! I don't wear anything synthetic, and don't mind paying £35 for a cotton dress from there

EndofDaze · 09/10/2023 11:27

You used to be able to buy pure wool skirts and jackets. Now everything is wool mix i.e synthetic with a smidge of wool. Prices have gone up despite the inferior quality of materials being used. I still look in the vain hope I might be tempted but realistically I can’t see myself buying Boden again.

UltimateInteriors · 10/10/2023 18:12

I'm very fond of knitted dresses for winter, but theirs are £130 and some are mainly cotton. Even with 20% discount that is still over £100.
I'd pay around £80 ish but not over £100.

Hopping on here a bit late to say I got excited when I saw the new season stock as a lot of it seemed to be back to classic Boden and, you know, you get what you pay for.

Then I saw the reviews. Wool coats that were actually mostly polyester. Work shirts that were so thin they were see-through. Back to Vinted for me!

Hope this goes some way to balancing out the two Boden-sponsored posts currently on the site that pretend everything is marvelous again.

MmePoppySeedDefage · 14/10/2023 09:28

I recently bought a pair of shoes: the first Boden article I've bought, and kept, for about 15 years. Previously I'd rejected things because they seemed so cheaply-made.

My shoes were £140 which I think is reasonable for their quality, and they are a good style. I fear we have to get used to things costing more than they used to.

Pimmsandstawbs · 14/10/2023 11:16

They have just sent me a £10 voucher (I have noticed they tend to do this shortly before a sale starts!). Now I have the dilemma of whether to bother using it, maybe to buy a t shirt at a less outrageous price. 🤣

VegetablesFightingToReclaimTheAubergieneEmoji · 14/10/2023 11:31

I’ve never been able to afford them, but do get their catalogues sent to me.
they have shot up, dresses that were £50-£70 are now £80-£120.
however, I think everywhere has.
dresses that were £30 are now £50.

I understand why, I just wonder how many businesses are going to survive it as fewer people will stretch to buy them where they would before. And the more affluent hold on to their money a little tighter

Ifonlyiweretaller · 14/10/2023 23:19

I got a £10 voucher too. But I think if you read theT&Cs you can't use it with any other offer...which means if you're using their current 20% off you can't use the voucher anyway ( please correct me if I'm wrong...). So the voucher is pretty worthless really as I never buy Boden without a discount offer.
