How often do you wear the same outfit?

Starting to wonder if I over complicate getting dressed.... in my head you have a wardrobe of clothes and the challenge/fun is to wear different permutations all the time. I almost never wear exactly the same outfit twice.

But obviously another way is to put together a few outfits and just wear them on a loop which sounds much more straightforward.

How do you do it?

You must have a lot of clothes to be able to do that!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 01/10/2023 14:44

Tbh I just get dressed, I don't give it shed loads of thought, I'd drive myself mad.

Sadik · 01/10/2023 14:55

I'm the opposite - basically I always wear the same thing, other than for parties or proper (ie not just to the pub) going out.

For work I have summer & winter trousers, 2 pairs of each to allow for washing. Then t-shirts (short / long sleeve, nearly all from rapanui) plus 2 or 3 hoodies. I add a merino base layer in cold weather.

Out of work 99% of the time I wear carhartt dungarees (again 2 pairs) with short / long sleeve tees / merino base depending on weather.

Never around the same group of people. Often will wear an outfit that ‘works’ around different groups.

Only caveat to this is / was work clothes but I’ve WFH since 2020 so not really relevant to my current day to day.

I love clothes and outfit planing. When something works, it’s great to wear it often but I dislike wearing ‘outfits’ around the same group.

Again, the S&B board …

BitOutOfPractice · 01/10/2023 15:07

I am you op. I enjoy putting different outfits and combinations together. On a really drudgy week it lifts my mood to have a new combo on.

I would go BONKERS wearing the same things on a loop.

kitsuneghost · 01/10/2023 15:09

I wear the same outfit for a week.

You wear the exact same clothes for a week? The absolute exact? Unless you have financial issues (which must be awful, and sympathy if so), can I ask why?

UsingChangeofName · 01/10/2023 15:13

I'm with @MrsPelligrinoPetrichor
Yes, it is the S&B board, but her answers are still valid.

What I wear will depend on what I am doing / where I am going. On things like how far I am going to have to walk / how long I will be on my feet / what the weather is like.
I have a very occasional outfit where I have a pair of shoes that I always wear with it, but my 'usual' clothes tend to be mix and match - standard pair of trousers go with several different tops.....those different tops might also go with some skirts or shorts or 3/4 length. ....... jewellery will depend on where I'm going / what I'm doing / even what time of year (I don't tend to wear my snowman earrings in June for example)........ shoes will depend on how much comfort needed ......

caramond · 01/10/2023 15:16

Not often although I have a couple of outfits that I know for sure will work well together and make me feel good, so I reach for those if I'm having one of those days nothing else feels right.

Otherwise it tends to be different combinations. I do have way too many clothes...

Is "the same outfit" the same as "the same clothes", though?

FallingAutumnLeaf · 01/10/2023 15:20

Well, 2 pairs of work trousers, 2 pairs of jeans, a pair of shorts and a summer skirt complete my bottom choices.
Probably half a dozen summer work choices. Similar number of winter choices.
Maybe 8 teeshirts/tops. Couple of jumpers for winter.
Probably fairly frequently repeat an outfit!

RicePuddingLady · 01/10/2023 15:21

For work at this time of year I have trousers, blazers, blouses, belts & shoes that I rotate in different combinations, often repeating an outfit a week or so apart.

For casual at weekends I definitely have ‘outfits’ that I wear over and over again because I know they work and to be honest, the same people (other than family) aren’t going to see me in them on repeat.

User63847439572 · 01/10/2023 15:23

I like to keep it simple
i think in general we all have too much stuff
I wear the same thing a lot - have a few dresses that I rotate.

Sadik · 01/10/2023 15:28

I have far too many loads of clothes, I just don't wear most of them Grin

OhYetAnotherBrickInTheWall · 01/10/2023 15:37

Good point. I guess that’s what I’m asking.

OhYetAnotherBrickInTheWall · 01/10/2023 15:38

That was to @uhOhOP

@MNHQ the ‘reply’ option is shite!

Yes exactly and your point is? It was an observation not a criticism.

Gwenhwyfar · 01/10/2023 16:08

I think you can be interested in clothes without needing to never wear the exact same combination of clothes. I can't imagine planning that.
I wear the same thing two or three days in a row then wear something else for a bit, depending on weather, etc. Clothes only get washed when they're actually dirty so it doesn't mean outerwear is washed after a few days, I just circulate for a bit of a change.

LadyBird1973 · 01/10/2023 16:56

I'm trying to get out the habit of saving things for best and thinking they are too nice for everyday. I have lots of lovely clothes that I'm starting to get into now I'm losing weight but I still seem to live in leggings (with their handy phone pocket) and t shirts and my comfy Skechers.
I made myself wear my nice ankle boot's yesterday and some smarter trousers.

moonshinepoursthroughmywindow · 01/10/2023 17:17

I like doing the never the same combination thing but I actively want to get more comfortable with not doing it.

I don't work in a customer facing role so I am completely fine in jeans and t-shirt. So just grab some jeans and t.shirt or a dress in summer and wear the for the week
It goes in the wash at the weekend and I pick something else for the following week

Same. I have a roomful and wear the same small selection that are comfy and still actually fit me.

Doggymummar · 01/10/2023 17:43

I WFH three days so tens to wear the same top and trousers with fresh underwear and t shirt. The other two days I am on the road so my out fit will vary. I couldn't possibly remember what I wore where so I just wear what seems appropriate for the mode if transport and event I am attending.
