The Perfect Grey Jumper

I have spent the last 20 years it feels, trying to find the perfect grey jumper, but they always end up not being quite right in some way or being poor quality and looking like dishrags after a couple of washes

I kind of want it to feel expensive and casual and slightly oversized, the kind you can throw on and look effortlessly stylish (in my head anyway).
I've seen this one by White Company, wbich isn't oversized but looks nice. Any other recommendations?

Another NavyGrey fan here. Excellent jumpers.

MonikerBing · 28/09/2023 22:05

I'd go for Navy Grey I think, But they have them in Cos too?

Its5656 · 28/09/2023 22:16

These are nice , a fair amount of Cashmere on Tkmaxx online.

I have the White Company one and it is amazing so far but I only got it recently and haven't washed it yet. I don't understand how cashmere can feel itchy though - it's so lovely and soft.

stringbean · 28/09/2023 22:30

I was also going to suggest Navygrey. I've just bought one of the funnel neck jumpers from them which will likely be the only thing I buy this winter. So fed up with spending money on knitwear which bobbles and looks tatty after a few wears - it's part of my buy less but better strategy.

Agree that teen boys clothing can be the perfect fit if you're short / athletic. Sadly I only discovered this from wearing my DSs cast offs, quite late in life!!

Yea for me it looked amazing and felt so soft to touch but when I tried to wear it it was a totally different situation xx

Watermelon47 · 29/09/2023 08:09

I like the look of some of these as I need a grey jumper.

What do you wear underneath them? Or do you just wear the jumper? In which case do they wash well? The problem I have is most of my jumpers are not as nice when they e been washed a few times.

I did buy a nice cashmere mix jumper in primark recently which seems surprisingly nice quality for the price (£22).

Papyrophile · 29/09/2023 08:44

I saw a good grey flecked crew neck in M&S Autograph yesterday, cashmere for £89. I would link but cba with their website.

I'm really liking this very affordable one from Uniqlo. Haven't washed it yet though, so can't comment on that. https://www.uniqlo.com/uk/en/product/premium-lambswool-crew-neck-jumper-461066.html?dwvar4610666color=COL02&dwvar4610666size=SMA002

I loved the quality but not the shape, there was too much excess material around the middle, kind of a balloon shape. I don't need any help looking like a balloon!

Wolvesart · 29/09/2023 08:55

I like mens jumpers because I have long arms. In womens wear I have to size up too much for body shape and if not high neck, too open/low. A menswear medium is often really good.

NancyStStacey · 29/09/2023 09:12

Thanks for all the recent suggestions. Sadly I think £160 is the max I can afford, so all those beautiful expensive jumpers are a bit out of my reach.

The TK Maxx one looks pretty good, but I think I prefer the neckline on the original White Company one.

I am just returning this Uniqlo jumper in grey as the only size they had left was M and there's oversized and ther's looking like you are wearing someone else's clothes!

I already have this M&S cashmere jumper and can confirm they are good (& non-itchy!), but they don't have a grey one.

I've had this Celtic and Co jumper for years and it's warm, soft and still in good condition, although I don't know what their quality is like these days. My only complaint is that the V neck is very low, although I always wear it over a T shirt so that wasn't a deal breaker. But looking at the pic, they might have rectified that.

The other places I rate for good quality, good looking everyday knitwear are Community Clothing - I can't see a grey round neck sweater there at the moment (only roll neck, zip-up and cardigan) but I think they're just getting their autumn stuff in so I'd keep looking

And secondly John Smedley - not linking as it's over budget but worth looking out for second hand (I've never bought it new).

I want a grey one too. I like the look of the white company one. I’ve seen this one but not sure if the colour is too beige https://www.reiss.com/style/su037218/187417#187417

Stunning

I have this one, which is PERFECT. They also do a lighter grey. https://navygrey.co/en-us/collections/feature-product/products/weekend-atlantic-grey

I can second this - perfect! Soft comfy and it has that casual but classic look

HolidayHappy123 · 29/09/2023 10:39

I buy White Company cashmere all the time. It starts off nice but bobbles very quickly so I find their stuff only lasts a season or two.

WhatACluster · 29/09/2023 11:04

Eek MN is bad for my bank balance

I’ve ordered the grey Uniqlo one 😂 for the office

Startyabastard · 29/09/2023 12:27

Jumper 1234 are meant to be good (never bought or saw them in person). They are cashmere and quite expensive.

NancyStStacey · 29/09/2023 13:03

@HolidayHappy123 damn that’s not good news. I can’t afford to buy a new one every year.

i find knitwear so disappointing- even if you pay a lot (I’m looking at you Hush), they look shit within a couple of months. I must have spent the equivalent of a reeeeaaally expensive cashmere jumper on substandard jumpers over the years.

i was sucked in by the beauty of a grey cashmere jumper by The White Company..it looked like a rag within weeks lots needing pill comb and developed holes easily!

FluffActually · 29/09/2023 13:27

Agree with PP, avoid Shite Company knitwear (and most clothes tbh), it's all aspirational vibes and Primark quality.
