Recommend me some slippers please

Hi,

I need some new slippers and need some recommendations from you lovely lot.

In the past I have had mocassons from M&S but last years were bad quality and uncomfortable. Before that I had some sketchers but the sole was so thick/hard it felt like walking in shoes.

I'm not fussy on colour and probably only want to spend up to £40 .

What will I like?

I've had a pair of these for a couple of years and was thinking about getting another pair as mine are starting to fall apart a bit now.

They have a proper sole so you are ok to pop in and out from the garden or whatever and when I first got them they were extraordinarily comfortable with the built in support. I wear them pretty much every day unless it's extremely hot, I've chucked them in the washing machine quite a lot. Perhaps they could have lasted longer but for the price I would definitely recommend

NEXT suede slippers that look like UGGS

Flyingfup · 27/09/2023 20:07

Birkenstocks that are only worn in the house/dashes to the gate. Advantages are they are comfy/supportive, we have shiny stairs that I think I would accidentally skate down in proper slippers, they don't soak up water if there are any splashes from the shower.

PassMeTheCookies · 27/09/2023 21:28

It's above your budget, but I honestly swear by my Ugg slippers. I used to buy a pair of slippers every year but I've had these for 3 years now and they're still as good as new. I won't even wear them outdoors to run to the car so the sole is pristine 😂 They're so warm and comfortable. I love them.

Look at Morland slippers. Not cheap, not stylish but so cosy!!

TheLeadbetterLife · 27/09/2023 21:33

I love Morlands slippers, and I think their ballerinas are quite stylish!

Tiggytico · 27/09/2023 21:33

Appreciate not the most exciting/stylish but I love these and have been wearing for years. Hard sole for popping outside and a good cosy footbed. Full back so less chance of me falling down the stairs or scrunching up my toes to keep them on! Various colours available. www.totes.co.uk/mobile/details.aspx?pid=16497&colour=dusky%20pink

Whatever you do don't waste money on Celtic sheepskin ones. I've had two ( very pricey) pairs fall apart within months.

Ratfinkstinkypink · 27/09/2023 21:36

Gumbies!

Blingstar · 27/09/2023 23:20

Shepherd of Sweden. More than your budget but they last for ages.

Blowyourowntrumpet · 27/09/2023 23:40

My Celtic sheepskin ones have lasted five years. Just replaced them. They're very expensive though

Toseland · 28/09/2023 00:25

Glerups are great, but over £60.

SecondClassReturnToDottinghamPlease · 28/09/2023 00:26

Love my Bedroom Athletics slippers, been wearing them for years!

indecisivewoman81 · 28/09/2023 22:12

Thanks everyone for all your suggestions.

I love slippers and hate anything "frilly" or slipperish.

Downstairs on the hard floors and for popping to the bins, not a slipper but a soft leather clog: Josef Siebel, Betty. (Above your price point at about £60 but the current pair is in its 4th year).

On the carpet and upstairs, Drapers of Glastonbury, Evie (I think) - again expensive but on year 4.

For travelling I keep a pair of Totes Isotoner, as mentioned above, in my overnight bag.

In the summer something like a Birkie, on my 2nd round of Clarke's two strap suede sandals.

As we wear slippers so often and for so long and stand in them a lot when cooking, I think it's worth spending a bit more for support and proper leather/sheepskin.

Min last for years, at least five or six for each pair so cheaper than spending £20 once a year.

Pleaseme · 28/09/2023 23:26

Aldi sheepskin slippers are really quite good. They are 16.99 and have a hard sole. I've had a pair for two years and they are still in decent condition. Have just bought new ones but will keep the old ones for bin duty.

Footle · 29/09/2023 07:40

@Ratfinkstinkypink , yes, Gumbies.

I agree. I won't go back now 😂 best slippers in the world and well worth the investment.

Let me link the ones I've got. They've got a very sturdy sole so I even use them in the garden in the summer etc

GettingStuffed · 29/09/2023 08:20

The last pair of Totes I had fell apart within months.
I've recently bought Skechers but I see you don't like the sole, they do have memory foam in so they're more like comfy trsiners

VWdieselnightmare · 29/09/2023 11:28

I bought a pair of sheepskin slippers from House of Bruar for my aunt a few years ago. They present themselves as quintessentially Scottish and the price was similar to that of Celtic sheepskin slippers. She was upset to find a Made in China tag inside them. I'd rather spend that sort of money on sheepskin from the UK or EU, where there are regulations about the keeping and slaughter of animals and the safe use and disposal of all the chemicals involved in tanning. So the House of Bruar (which seems to have got itself stuck in the early 90s style-wise) is a no-no from me.

Robinni · 29/09/2023 11:46

I have Birkenstocks, the fluffy ones, very expensive but you can replace the inner annually and wear them outside.

£60 - £160 (fluffies from £90)

I was wearing through next/M&S moccasins every 3 months so that was costing £120 per year anyway…

I like Rohde slippers - German brand. They may not look very stylish but they're supremely comfortable and have a sole you can walk outside in so you can keep them on when popping in and out of the house :-) Not a huge range of colours, but there are other styles of Rohde slippers in different colours. I first got them when I needed comfort footwear for a foot problem.

Snuggins slippers by Loaf. I hate the twee name and I'm not a fan of their sofas because IMO they are far too deep but their slippers are the best ones I have ever had. Comfortable fit, stay on my feet and good soles for our hard floors - and they look nice as a bonus.
