Had another unsuccessful trip to the shops

I’m desperate for some new clothes, but just can’t find anything the suits me or I like.

The shops are filled with wide leg suit trousers, knitted long dresses and clumpy boots.

any bought anything good lately?

One reason I like Vinted is that if you 'favourite' a few things you like, it shows you more, similar sorts of things. I suppose this works if you have some idea of your style though, but you could still give it a try. I've also found myself branching out more with it. I used to just buy mint velvet, white company, jigsaw and a couple of other brands whose sizing, cut and fabrics I already know work for me. Have just splashed out on some Brora tweed trousers and Brora silk top for a change.

I’m 54 and five feet one, I like to wear long midi dresses in Autumn colours with various leather jackets or a sweatshirt. I also have a lot of hush joggers that go with the sweatshirts I have. I hate jeans and have recently bought some black sort of combat trousers that go with lots of my tops. I wear trainers and suede trainers/ankle boots. I have many bags and necklaces and I’ve recently lost a fair bit of weight so have got into belts to try and prolong the life of my midi dresses as I don’t want to buy too much at the moment.
I also have a long pleated and midi skirt in autumn colours that again go with my various tops and jackets. I’ve don’t really have anything to wear for going out so I wear one of my dresses and curl my hair, and add some extra jewellery etc.

I've just bought a pair of wide-legged slightly cropped jeans from fatface https://www.fatface.com/women/clothing/jeans/keswick-wide-leg-jeans/980357.html?dwvar_980357_color=black which I'll be wearing to work tomorrow, with a heavy linen shirt from Toast, and either chunky brogues or trainers. However I've also just tried on a couple of pairs of wide-legged trousers from Uniqlo which are going straight back as I look like a circus clown in them - there's just too much material. I like wide-legged trousers in theory, but as quite a round person, anything which isn't carefully shaped around the waist & hips just drowns me. I'm just over 60 btw.

Hi OP,

I was in a similar situation and I’ve just read a book by a stylist called ‘The Curated Wardrobe ‘. It was free on my kindle subscription. She really went through how you define what suits you, your lifestyle and where you live.

You base these on your height and width proportions so there is no measuring involved. She also uses examples all the way through to get the point across.

Then you pick elements of things you love but don’t suit you - there are always looks that we adore but do not make us look like the model or movie star we hoped - but you can add something , either the material or the colour or the glamour or sportiness of this look, to your own best silhouette.

Then you build a wardrobe around these silhouettes. It makes way more sense than I am making here, but it helped me realise what my core style is and what I feel best in. I’m now going to stick with these items for day, evening and occasional wear, and the best bit is that I already have enough to make about 10 outfits in my wardrobe.

She also explains accessories, which I’ve always ignored as being too much faff, but actually can really define an outfit and bring it together. So today I sorted out my favourite brooches and bracelets to go with my outfits. Accessories also include shoes, hats etc so if you hate jewellery, you can skip it.

I hope this helps you.

I love those M&S jeans and have just ordered them, thanks!

I'm glad you like them @Almahart.
It's such a shame they were only sold for a very short time, as I haven't found any other jeans that are as nice to wear.

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie oh you have reminded me to dig out my kimonos. Like you say, they dress up any outfit an I always feel a bit funky wearing one
