Had another unsuccessful trip to the shops

I’m desperate for some new clothes, but just can’t find anything the suits me or I like.

The shops are filled with wide leg suit trousers, knitted long dresses and clumpy boots.

any bought anything good lately?

I'm doing the whole Light Academia look at the moment - shades of beige, ecru, taupe, brown, off white, with touches of black for smaller things such as shoes, bags and belts. Its a lovely slouchy, easy, slightly masculine look, which suits me as I have pale colouring, broad shoulders and a good waist.

CharlotteRumpling · 23/09/2023 13:45

I agree there are lots of non clumpy boots available. I am wearing flat Solovair boots regardless of whether they are fashionable or not.

greengreengrass25 · 23/09/2023 13:48

I like wide leg trousers but they are not especially practical imo

Gowlett · 23/09/2023 13:52

47 here. I do charity shops / TK Maxx / M&S Sale.
Went into Monsoon recently, the prices! No, siree…

Gowlett · 23/09/2023 13:54

Also non-British websites (ie not high street big hitters) with Danish / Swedish / Dutch brands are great. Fashion Fifteen.

Whatever I buy, I end up wearing jeans, a T shirt and a cardigan or jumper.

Yep, same!

I bought some harem pants and tripped over them and nearly fell down the stairs.
I really can't be bothered with that level of danger so I'm back in uniform 😂

JadeSeahorse · 23/09/2023 13:59

I’m 67 and size 10!

Presently wearing M &Co black cord trousers together with a deep red warehouse thin red turtle neck jumper.

Nothing worthy of note but very comfy.😊

Yep, same!

Me too 😂
But I've found jeans I feel good in.
Even if they're an old M&S style purchased off eBay. And my cardigan is cashmere. Plus most importantly I've found some comfy bras ( Boody) & shoes - Vionic loafers, that are like wearing slippers. I can't abide uncomfortable shoes any more.

Thank you, I am fine thanks to banister rails! I agree .
Am not suited to this part of the forum... I wandered off track due to the 'active' board. All these glam sounding older ladies, and me, who's happier when decent, comfortable and safe to walk, garden and potter.

Redwinestillfine · 23/09/2023 14:05

Skinny jeans ( because I like them and don't give a hoot if they're not in fashion), zip leg trousers and wide trousers from the likes of Reis's/. Whistles, blouses, jumpers from seasalt or thin jumpers from the likes of whistles/ phase eight. All bought second hand. I do own chunky boots and adore them though.

Second that. Baum und Pferdgarten, Pauw, Stine Goya, Ganni, Rotate Birger (and the wild card Cecilie Bahnsen)

Day to day it’s a variation on leggings, dresses and skirts and mom or wide legged jeans or skinnies or even sweatshirts. Saw this skirt but dress version and prefer the skirt but no idea if it’d suit me:-

I love M&S jeans! And cashmere. Off to research Vionic and Boody. And Swedish jumpers…

Gowlett · 23/09/2023 15:29

M&S jeans, yes. H&M are handy for hacking around in, too.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 23/09/2023 15:47

Today I'm wearing a just over the knee leopard print dress (M&S rip off of Whistles, I think) with thin black tights and Paul Smith trainers.

I bought this today, which I'm going I'll get a lot of wear out of.

I find summer and early Autumn difficult to dress for. Once it's cooler, it'll be lots of jeans, turtle necks, boots, leather jacket outfits. Midi skirts and turtle necks. I like over the knee dresses and tights too, but they're getting harder to find.

CROPPED TWILL JACKET

CROPPED TWILL JACKET: Our design team looked to utility style when creating this jacket – they reimagined the trend with a minimal look that's signature to COS. Made from cotton-blend twill, it has a cropped length, half-moon collar and front flap pock...

I found this book How to stop spending money you don't have on clothes you don't wear really helpful when I was trying to work out my style and what I wanted to wear (to stop myself buying the same thing over and over again.

She recommends the Moonsift app where you can copy the links to the clothes you see on different websites so you can be more mindful about shopping

EllaPaella · 23/09/2023 16:06

This time of year as seasons transition is always tricky for me putting outfits together - mainly because it's often pretty chilly when I leave the house in the morning but can be pretty warm by early afternoon. I tend to base my outfit on my footwear, that's always my starting point. I really don't want to spend another winter just in jumpers and jeans so following this thread for inspiration.

MonikerBing · 23/09/2023 16:06

(I'm hungover and wearing American Vintage Joggers and an old Cos cashmere jumper and won't be leaving the house). But many of my clothes come from an independent shop near me that stocks lots of the scandi labels, Isabel Marant, etc. I buy my work clothes from Cos or Me & Em (but am finding them dull hence the book) and also shop a lot at Net a Porter and H&M. Like Raey at Matches too.

Like a PP, I think it's helpful to define your style before shopping - the book I linked to above suggested how to do that by looking at your existing clothes that you wear over and over and which you like.

EllaPaella · 23/09/2023 16:07

My favourite trousers and jeans at the moment are all barrel leg and wide leg.

DDAnnie · 23/09/2023 16:14

I'm 42 so not entirely on brief but Uniqlo have so much fab stuff in. I had a jumper and skirt delivered today and super happy with them so been wearing all day!

Their stuff is classic and modern at the same time plus not too speedy. I'm a 12-14 and the M always seems to fit well.
