Are Cos clothes decent quality?

I need some new long sleeve tops for work and quite like the look of these from Cos. If it fit nicely and I'd probably buy a few colours. I've not bought from Cos before, does anyone have any insights on the general quality, sizing, durability etc?

I'm a bit worried it's ultra thin and won't be warm enough. it's hard to tell from the pics:

Cos is part of H&M group but it’s suppose to be better quality than H&M.
I never had anything from them however.

smallshinybutton · 22/09/2023 16:02

I bought one of their basic t-shirts a couple of years back and tbh it's terrible

Goodornot · 22/09/2023 16:04

Quality is ok. Not exceptional. I can't work out who it is meant for though.

Some kind of dystopia drama is where their clothes belong.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 22/09/2023 16:04

Cos is generally really good quality. Better than anywhere else in the high street and in a similar price bracket.

purplemunkey · 22/09/2023 16:08

Ah, I didn't know they were part of the H&M group. So I suppose its a little like the Taste the Difference or Finest version of H&M?

Mixed reviews then.

I really rate it. Proper seams etc. My t shirts have stayed the same shape and size!

AceOfCups · 22/09/2023 16:17

It used to be.

I've been very unimpressed with the quality for the last few years and everything I've ordered online has gone back for being transparent/cheap fabric.

etonmess89 · 22/09/2023 16:18

I really like Cos. It's a different experience going into the store and seeing the clothes to shopping online- online does not do it justice.
In my experience yes, the quality is good.

iwantavuvezela · 22/09/2023 16:20

I have quite a few things from Cos (jumpers, shirts, a coat etc) - all items have washed/worn well, and some are still going many years on .

Floisme · 22/09/2023 16:22

I've not bought anything new from Cos for 3 or 4 years but, at that time, I thought they were by far the best quality at that price point on the high street, and way better than H&M, even if they are part of the same group. I've heard that their quality has slipped since then, but then so has everyone else's, so I'd put money on their still being ahead of the pack.

mumonthehill · 22/09/2023 16:27

i rate their dresses but have been disappointed with their jumpers. I do now only buy in the sale. Ironically for work shirts and silky blouses i now buy from H and M.

MadamPia · 22/09/2023 16:32

Their older stuff was amazing quality, I have a pure wool COS skirt that has lasted over a decade and a few other bits made from good materials. Overtime they have downgraded slightly on material quality but they have amazing stuff.

I’ve been told they invest ALOT in their patterns and so have great shapes and tailoring compared to many high street stores.

Although they are part of H&M they are slightly more high end and are probably just reaching Hobbs or a Reiss’ level.

purplemunkey · 22/09/2023 16:50

Thanks all. Might be worth a try then. I went for a few sale French Connection items for now as I've had a few things from them recently that have been pretty good for work. I might try and look in a Cos next time I'm near one.

Hope you find something nice!

stealthbanana · 22/09/2023 17:00

I have always found cos great quality - I have dresses and coats still going strong after 10 years

ordered some workwear this season and have been similarly impressed. It’s just the sizing is so erratic between styles - I do find it much easier to go into a shop.

Barnowlsandbluebells · 22/09/2023 17:18

In my opinion, it's exactly the same as every other 'high street' type brand. Not great.

VivaLaVolvo · 22/09/2023 17:33

Uniqlo are better quality.

sunglassesonthetable · 22/09/2023 17:42

I think Cos are good quality. My experience has been very good. Leagues up from H&M. And there's something quite classic about Cos clothes.

One thing I'd say though. You have to try stuff on.

The clothes often look weird in the on line pics. They don't help themselves.

sunglassesonthetable · 22/09/2023 17:44

When things have been good they've been very good. And like other posters I've had some things for years.

PikachuEars · 22/09/2023 17:56

Different league to H&M - some of their stuff has lasted better than others and have had a few disasters with shrinkage (mostly from me being a bit slapdash about following washing instructions). But I have dresses I have had for year and years which are as good as new. And because their cuts and styling are quite unique, Cos clothes rarely look too dated.

This.

Same here on all counts.

I've got a couple of knee length A line, wool shift dresses from Cos which look and feel considerably more expensive than they were. My husband is usually quite good at guessing what I've spent (it's for amusement only, he has no say in the matter). He overestimated by miles on these dresses. The material has a lovely finish to it- it's the sort of tailored wool Jaeger used to do until they became rubbish.

Shopgirl1 · 22/09/2023 18:47

Generally good quality. I was in Cos yesterday and saw that top. It was good but no particularly warm. I will say I thought it felt nicer than the Uniqlo merino tops I have a few of and they are pretty good. I will probably go back and get it. I have a few merino wool j crew tops I got at least 5 years ago and they are brilliant. They were more than twice the price of the Cos one though.

GeorgeTheFirst · 22/09/2023 18:49

I like Cos. I saw these jumpers at the weekend. They are very very thin, I think that is the point of them. Not like an ordinary merino top at all. (Uniqlo's were good, if that's what you're after)
