How much do you expect to pay for a cut and colour?

I have medium, not quite shoulder length hair and just paid £220 for highlights and cut. Excellent quality work, she did a really good job understanding what I wanted when I didn't really know myself but fuck me, that feels expensive no? I'm not in London but not in the north either. I have also really struggled to find a good hairdresser, this is the 4th salon in the area i've tried. They all seem expensive and with cost of living increases maybe this is normal? Cripes.

Bra strap length hair, full head of foils, bleach and a colour, Olaplex, toner, head massage, cut and blow dry £110. Probably lasts 8-10 months before I need a whole head again. I have roots and cut for £60 and when the highlights grow down my hair I have a halo done and then a half head. I trust my hairdresser and go every 6 weeks and she decides when to have each thing done because I am a walking advert for her hair salon which is in her home. My hair looks amazing, I never come out disappointed and my hair has changed a lot over the years including now being 70% grey.

£120.

Was it a shock OP, didn't you check how much it would be when booking?

I can't believe it but I didn't. I spent ages looking online at reviews and stuff.

@DrMarshaFieldstone It included full head highlights, low lights/root shadowing or something, Olaplex, toner, cut and finish. It took 3 hours, does look fab to be fair but I can't leave it more than 10 weeks but the next one would be half head or T section.

Where on earth do people find these sub £100 places! I have tried random places before and been zebra striped and literally had my hair burned off from bad bleaching practices.

150 for half head highlights, cut and finish
Perhaps the treatments pushed your price up?

HurdyGurdy19 · 22/09/2023 15:39

Paid £65 a couple of weeks ago for a cut and colour. Hadn't been done for 10 months, so there was a lit to do.

New hairdresser, but seemed OK.

I have never got over the loss of my last hairdresser, who was brilliant. Right up until he retired. Early. Not even old. Rotter 😀

Jaxhog · 22/09/2023 15:44

I suspect that's what I'd have to pay around here too. I paid £75 for a cut and blow dry last time. I hate to think what they'd charge for colouring! I live in an upmarket town on the edge of London.

TravellingJack · 22/09/2023 15:46

I just had mine done this week - full head balayage, treatment, trim and toner which came to £55 BUT that was a trainee and it took several hours.

If it had been the most junior qualified stylist in that salon (just outside Edinburgh) it would have been about £200, probably getting on for £300 for the owner. It's not a cheap salon, but it is good... the trainee has done an excellent (and very thoroughly checked by the owner and a colour specialist) job so I'll be sad when she qualifies and goes up out of my price range!

GodspeedJune · 22/09/2023 15:47

£90 for balayage and a cut then blow dry. I only have a colour every other visit to save on the cost.

Its5656 · 22/09/2023 15:52

£80 for full head of highlights and cut with my mobile hairdresser.. I tip her well because she does a great job and I was paying £185 in a salon. I'm on the south coast.

dementedpixie · 22/09/2023 15:52

£65 for full head highlights and cut. Small salon in central Scotland

Onelifeonly · 22/09/2023 15:58

Well I do live in London and pay around £140 for cut and colour. (My salon vary prices depending on stylist / colourist and sometimes, apparently, on time of year / state of business)

We did pay over £200 once for my dd to have her colour done at a different salon (for a special birthday) but never again - she covered it with a dye from the supermarket a couple of months later!!

MmmALovelyBitOfSquirrel · 22/09/2023 16:01

In NW England. £55 for cut and colour and she comes to my house to do it.

felisha54 · 22/09/2023 16:07

I pay £70 for balayage and a root colour plus a cut.

marketing101 · 22/09/2023 16:09

How many hours were you there?

CosilyRosily · 22/09/2023 16:10

Half head highlights, toner, cut and dry - £210 in Surrey (North)

Fringebangfringe · 22/09/2023 16:12

I paid £120 however she's burnt my hair. Fried it into one yellow block instead of lovely creamy highlights. She cut my fringe 3cm too short.

My hair used to have a natural wave and now it's a frizzy noodle triangle. 😔

Fringebangfringe · 22/09/2023 16:13

I'm in exeter

That sounds about right for all that in the south-east, tbh. Did you get a breakdown? I have just checked my last receipt.

Cut and finish £55
Full head balayage £103
Olaplex (actually the Redken equivalent but similar concept and price) £26
Toner £21

I remembered paying £224 but that included a product, so total for the cut / colour / finish was £205 and I am in the West Midlands. They will happily give you an itemised quote in advance.

Windmill34 · 22/09/2023 16:21

NW , I pay £81 for foils/cut & blow dry

MadeofCheeese · 22/09/2023 16:23

I have been struggling with this issue this year!
Mine is costing £130 at the moment. I'm about 2 hours from London.

TheStoryof10 · 22/09/2023 16:30

Wow. I pay £55 for cut and colour, I get t -bar foil highlights. I know that's cheap and I'd expect to pay £90 - £110 if I went to a more fancy salon with a coffee machine etc locally. But I'm happy with what I get for £55 and people often compliment my colour.

StrongandNorthern · 22/09/2023 16:41

Had a wash and cut yesterday. Exactly what I asked for. Perfect.£25.
Sheffield.

Darthwazette · 22/09/2023 14:19

I paid £90 recently for roots, mix of highlights and lowlights, deep conditioning treatment and cut and blow dry. NW City.

I would pay £80 for these. Northern city

ohfook · 22/09/2023 16:47

I used to think £80 was about right but last Christmas I paid £120 and I just have shoulder length hair!!!

AuntieJoyce · 22/09/2023 16:47

Those saying it includes olaplex what olaplex product are you actually having applied please
