How much do you expect to pay for a cut and colour?

I have medium, not quite shoulder length hair and just paid £220 for highlights and cut. Excellent quality work, she did a really good job understanding what I wanted when I didn't really know myself but fuck me, that feels expensive no? I'm not in London but not in the north either. I have also really struggled to find a good hairdresser, this is the 4th salon in the area i've tried. They all seem expensive and with cost of living increases maybe this is normal? Cripes.

I pay £60. Market town in Yorkshire.

LetsGoDoDoDo · 22/09/2023 14:17

£125 for roots, toner, cut & blow-dry. East midlands.

Lentilweaver · 22/09/2023 14:17

Am getting a cut and wash today. £35 in London through Treatwell. Yes, I am cheap. TBH expensive haircuts and cheap ones are all the same on my hair.

Darthwazette · 22/09/2023 14:19

I paid £90 recently for roots, mix of highlights and lowlights, deep conditioning treatment and cut and blow dry. NW City.

KeepSmiling89 · 22/09/2023 14:21

I've gone colour free for a few years now, but last time I got my hair coloured I was about £80 for a full head of highlights, toner and cut and blowdry. That was December 2019 and in a smaller town in Scotland.

LadyDancealot · 22/09/2023 14:21

Full head highlights, cut and blow dry £180 in Chelsea/Fulham. So I'd say £220 is quite expensive. Sometimes I find London cheaper than outlying areas as there's more competition.

mamalovebird · 22/09/2023 14:22

I recently paid £200 for a half head and cut & finish but after years of having results with various salons up and down the price scale, I am happy to pay it. For the first time in a long time I walked out feeling they got exactly what I wanted cut-wise and understood how to handle my hair. And I'm even pushing my next appointment back by two weeks because the shape has stayed in really well as it's grown and the colour hasn't faded. I'm in the north west.

rowanrome · 22/09/2023 14:22

£160 for a mixture of highlights and lowlights, cut and blow dry, I'm in Devon.

fetchacloth · 22/09/2023 14:22

I pay £60 for highlights and cut on short hair.
West Midlands.

mamalovebird · 22/09/2023 14:23

*having shit results, I meant to say.

lemongirl1985 · 22/09/2023 14:25

£55 for roots toner and cut in West Midlands. My hairdresser is amazing, such a talented woman and full of passion.
I pay £90 for balayage.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 22/09/2023 14:25

£150 for cut and finish, half head of highlights and a treatment. Zone 5 London.

Riverlee · 22/09/2023 14:26

£200 seems a lot. Depending on what I want done, £85-100.

ToxicPositivity · 22/09/2023 14:32

Christ my full head highlights lowlights, toner and cut is £45 and I was thinking that was getting expensive.

ethelredonagoodday · 22/09/2023 14:40

£75 in Yorkshire. I've gone to the same hairdresser for years, and she now works from home rather than in a salon, but she's very talented. I've had multiple styles and colours over the years, and she isn't frightened of trying new stuff. Ive been to other hairdressers in the past who charged far more, who basically did the same hairstyle irrespective of what I asked for!

oistopthatyoucheekysnail · 22/09/2023 14:40

£96 for cut, colour and blow dry in Essex.

skyeisthelimit · 22/09/2023 14:43

Foil 3 colour highlights, trim, wash and blowdry, cost me £70 in a small Devon town.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 22/09/2023 14:46

£120.

Was it a shock OP, didn't you check how much it would be when booking?

GotMooMilk · 22/09/2023 14:52

Gosh this is sobering, I pay £220 for cut, half head balayage with root melt and toner. I LOVE my hairdresser though and I only go twice a year as the colour grows out beautifully so I feel like it’s worth it. I could never afford highlights now like I did in my youth!

Sanch1 · 22/09/2023 14:56

I'm SW and pay £65 in a home salon, in a normal salon it would be around £90-120.

DrMarshaFieldstone · 22/09/2023 14:59

What did that include?

I pay about £220 for full head balayage or babylights, Olaplex, toner, cut and finish. I only get it done once or twice a year and I don’t begrudge it. I’m in the chair for hours. You wear your hair every day!

PhillyJoe · 22/09/2023 15:01

£150 for half head highlights, toner and cut in the Northeast. If I have a treatment and full head it’s near £200. I really love my hairdresser and my hair always looks good so I’ll keep paying.

Daisyislazy · 22/09/2023 15:10

£165, Scotland

elastamum · 22/09/2023 15:21

£57 in a little salon in the midlands. I used to pay a lot more, but my new hairdresser is fabulous and much less expensive.

mondaytosunday · 22/09/2023 15:33

London between £100-200. In fact the £200 was just for colour not cut! Not happy never returned - back to L'Oreal box!
