Love Leti's dress, very pretty.

StartupRepair · 08/10/2023 04:48

Christian's 18th coming up soon. I think it is a tiara event.

Euro Royal Wedding 🚨 (another one)

first off who knew the Portuguese had a royal family? They must have too many legacy titles floating about.

Infanta Maria Francisca Braganza and Duarte de Sousa Arouja Martins.

very simple gown.

How lovely! Maria looks beautiful - that's a lovely dress, very simple and elegant. Great tiara 🤩

A lot of the royal fashion accounts on Insta do throwbacks to ‘on this day this obscurely titled royal from a former world power married , er, that guy’ throwbacks.

I’m always struck by how gowns from 20/30/50 years ago are not that different to the dresses today. Serena Linley married Princess Margaret’s son 30 years ago today. Not dissimilar dress from the bodice up.

That dress is lovely, and exquisitely-made. And it suits and fits her very well.

Portugal abolished the monarchy over 100 years ago so the bride and groom are as royal as the Germans and Austrians calling themselves archduke or count! Agree the dress is v similar to Serena's, which in turn was very like Princess Margaret's.

SenecaFallsRedux · 08/10/2023 13:27

Lovely dress on Maria.

The House of Braganza provided one queen to Britain: Catherine, who married Charles II.

I just opened that link @justasking111

".... She collected her tresses back into an updo........."

Had her tresses fallen off ?

😂

I was reading this article about the lovely tiara the bride wore (loved her dress too!) and was a bit surprised to hear that they are still accorded some status by the Portuguese government, as it refers to them being invited to state events, including when Wax and Max last visited.

Queen Amélie’s Diamond Tiara

Queen Amélie's 'Dom Luis' Tiara was the Orléans Princess’ splendid Wedding Gift from her father-in-law, King Luis, which remains the most spectacular Heirloom of the House of Braganza

It wasn't the Portuguese "heir" to the throne who got into a fight at some other royal-ish wedding and fell into the arms of Queen Anne-Marie of Greece was it??

Maireas · 08/10/2023 14:57

Good work, @Serenster , that is a beautiful tiara. I didn't realise that they still participated in state events.

How short hair would look on Kate, according to AI. I love the bottom two.

KillingMeDeftly · 08/10/2023 17:17

The bottom two are only a bit shorter than a cut she sported a few years ago, which I thought was her best hairstyle. The top two are too boring - newsreader and what the Americans call soccer mom!

Maireas · 08/10/2023 18:19

Yes, the bottom right is similar to our all time favourite Wimbledon look.

I enjoyed reading about the Queen Amelie tiara. It's beautiful and is similar to my very own tiara, the Fife. Here they are side-by-side for comparison.

I think the bottom right photo mocking up Kate with shorter hair looks great. Perhaps she'll see it and get some inspiration!

The Portuguese Infanta has gone full MM for her evening wedding gown.

the groom looks fifteen very youthful!

Maireas · 08/10/2023 20:31

Nice evening gown! I'd have kept the tiara on, though!

Eaumyword · 08/10/2023 22:36

I do like that halterneck dress. Definitely reminiscent of MM and a great modern evening choice.

themessygarden · 09/10/2023 07:48

I do like that dress and I agree, the groom looks very 'youthful'.

I actually really like the second dress, even though it's Erdem!

I'm not keen on those floral dresses of Sophie's but I do admire her work in this area.
