Any leggings to genuinely compete with Swetty Betty?

I want to buy some matt black soft, stretchy, high waisted leggings that are as good quality as Swetty Betty. But not as expensive. By this I mean they keep their shape, v well made (strong seams), last 5 years of pretty solid wear, sweat wicking and not see through. Or to get all this do I just need to swallow the price? I don't want shiny black BTW, all the ones I saw in M and S for example were shiny/slippy which is not what I want.

I have these. Don't own any SBs so can't do a direct comparison but I'm v happy with the fit and quality for the price. Just don't buy the pinky purple ones, I had to send them back as they were totally different to the black and dark grey!

Vinted? Search brand new you might get lucky

RavingStone · 17/09/2023 20:25

No idea if they come in black but m&s good move do leggings which absolutely rival SB. In fact I slightly prefer them. The SBs I have are zero gravity and power which both look incredible on - SO flattering - but both slip down on me. The m&s ones are almost as flattering, much cheaper, and have the brilliant phone pocket on the leg. But best of all they come up as high as my v high waist and they stay up.

I think Lululemon are comparable. I only only LLL. intend to buy SB soon to see what they're like. I have looked in the shops and I think LLL might even be better. Good deals online for BNWOT for LLL. Wonder Under are thicker than Align. The running versions are really thick. Worth the money.

There are lots of fake Lululemons that come from china so beware if buying from resellers!

Ooh they look worth a punt. 10% off too.
What size would you go for if you were a 12/14?

thenightsky · 17/09/2023 21:23

I've got some original Long Tall Sally which are amazing. Not sure what they are like now the brand has been bought by Yours Clothing.

musicmum75 · 17/09/2023 21:26

I love Bam Clothing bamboo leggings. They are a different kind of fabric to the Sweaty Betty ones. More like a thick jersey. They are really good quality and probably cheaper than SB.

PortiaWithNoBreaks · 17/09/2023 21:27

You could try POWER20 as a code on SB if that helps. Not sure if it’s still active but it was last week.

I’ve lost count of the other brands I’ve tried but always gone back to SB. I’ve not tried LLL though.

I do think it maybe depends on your body shape. For me, I never have to adjust SB when training but do with other brands.

Justtryingtobehelpful · 17/09/2023 21:27

@gun.true.didbt think of that..... These are real, feel the exact same as my previous ones. Would have been gutted if scammed.... 👍

countdowntonap · 17/09/2023 21:29

Oysho.
I have 5 pairs of their black compression leggings, plus two patterned pairs. They wash/last so well.

Chunkymonkee · 17/09/2023 21:30

Oooohhhh I’ve been looking
for some for weeks. I ordered loads and sent them back! But I did keep: LNDR ( the vids showing you what each one is was really helpful), DHB ( outlet from Wiggle £25 instead of £70 at the mo) and the lululemon running ones ( I didn’t like the align pair I ordered).
ive had some m and s ones in the past which were great but they didn’t last as long as my SB ones.
Lady at the gym I go loves born primitive ( I ruled these out, no pockets) and I did wonder about the NoBull ones too but they didn’t have my size in the ones I liked when I looked.
happy shopping xx

Sweaty Betty are pretty average performance, and I think overpriced (even in the sales).

Finding plain black, not shiny, might be the problem. Always check Wiggle and Decathlon - very good performance and excellent VFM.

Also these, but they're dark grey, rather than black - near enough, or not?

One thing that caught my eye was this from 2XU (excellent performance compression brand) - they have a very slight sheen, but the logo is shiny. Any goof?

Have you tried Adanola? I prefer their ultimate leggings to Sweaty Betty power leggings and they are only £39 so much better value

MaraScottie · 18/09/2023 00:06

CRZ Yoga on Amazon are great, and a fraction of the price of SB (incidentally I'm only getting 2 years from my SB when the elastic just dies and they go saggy)

RosaKim · 18/09/2023 00:46

Lululemon. CRZ don't compare (in my opinion)

Nat6999 · 18/09/2023 00:47

I wear M & S Heatgen leggings, they are thermal lined & thicker than normal leggings.

Hubblebubble · 18/09/2023 00:48

Gym shark always have something reduced

florentini · 18/09/2023 07:53

I have Reebok high waist Lux leggings, about £40. Really high waist and completely opaque. Love them so much I bought a 2nd pair.

Angliski · 18/09/2023 07:55

Llama leisure are amazing! Incredibly soft, very good quality and a fraction of the price.

alpinia · 18/09/2023 07:58

Adanola or the Uniqlo ones are pretty decent too.

WingedHermes · 18/09/2023 08:00

Dincwear dance leggings. They are amazing, looked new after years of wear and were extremely flattering. Plus they've got a birthday sale on at the moment so only about £30!!!!

MattDamon · 18/09/2023 08:03

Anything I buy from Adidas lasts forever.

spottygymbag · 18/09/2023 08:23

Have a look at Lorna Jane. I used to be all Nike but now a solid convert to Lorna Jane lotus no chafe. They are soft, matte, non see through. I use them for gym, yoga, running and just did a trail ultra run in them.
You could also look at 2XU.

pinkpirlie · 18/09/2023 08:56

I have Uniqlo Airism leggings. Very good quality. Think they meet your requirements. c.£20 a pair.
I sized up and a pair have lasted me through to 40 weeks pregnant and still look new, seams good, etc.
