Any leggings to genuinely compete with Swetty Betty?

I want to buy some matt black soft, stretchy, high waisted leggings that are as good quality as Swetty Betty. But not as expensive. By this I mean they keep their shape, v well made (strong seams), last 5 years of pretty solid wear, sweat wicking and not see through. Or to get all this do I just need to swallow the price? I don't want shiny black BTW, all the ones I saw in M and S for example were shiny/slippy which is not what I want.

I second LLama leisure, they advertise mad colourful but have normal black too.

teawamutu · 18/09/2023 09:39

I've just ordered some stuff from Llama Leisure, never heard of them before but they look fantastic. Thanks, PP!

turquoisediamond · 18/09/2023 09:47

Lulu lemon all the way. Prob not cheaper though. Never thought I'd spend that on leggings - got bought a pair as a present and never went back. They are delicious to wear!

MsMartini · 18/09/2023 09:48

I've not found any. M and S good move are dupes of sorts but I find the fabric plasticky and sticky.

I never pay full price for SB though - buy in the sale or BNWT from ebay or Vinted, usually about 50 quid which is worth it for me as I wear and wear them. If you buy a few things from SB site, you get Insider status which means first dibs at sale (so you can get plain black leggings) and one item at 50% off on your birthday. John Lewis also sometimes have good SB sales.

I've not tried the internet-only brands as I like to try stuff on, find out my size, and then keep an eye out for bargains online.

Brand Alley has SB. Have you looked there?

InAnyOtherLife · 18/09/2023 09:57

Try Llama Leisure - so so, soft, and really high waisted.

I love my SBs for the compression though!!

No idea if they come in black but m&s good move do leggings which absolutely rival SB. In fact I slightly prefer them. The SBs I have are zero gravity and power which both look incredible on - SO flattering - but both slip down on me. The m&s ones are almost as flattering, much cheaper, and have the brilliant phone pocket on the leg. But best of all they come up as high as my v high waist and they stay up.

I'll second this, you can get them for yoga, running, zumba etc. I love mine. Which are black!

TerrierOrTerror · 18/09/2023 10:12

Uniqlo Airism and My Urban Trail are my favourites. The latter I haven't tried in black so not sure if they will be matte, but the green ones I have are definitely matte!

Stripeypyjamas · 18/09/2023 10:23

Ovruns on Amazon. Saw someone recommend them here. I have five pairs and they are good quality, don't fall down, wick well.

cocksstrideintheevening · 18/09/2023 10:26

My best leggings are from fabletics, sign up for the offer and then cancel. I've got 4 yo pairs that are still going strong and they are totally squat proof

Spideycat · 18/09/2023 11:23

Gap, the gapfit blackout high rise are my favourite. They change the names on the website so I'm not sure which these are now.
I sometimes see Lucy Locket recommended on threads like this but I have some (liked the prints) and think the quality is pretty poor. I assumed llama leisure was the same quality but I might be tempted if people are saying they're decent!

Beangrove · 18/09/2023 13:02

@Theimpossiblegirl sorry only just come back to the thread - I'm a 'generous' 12 and the Medium is fine for me, they are pretty stretchy

Theimpossiblegirl · 18/09/2023 16:50

Thank you, I'll go for the same.

Kangarude · 18/09/2023 18:52

I have about 6 pairs from Llama Leisure, and whilst I love the prints and their softness, the colour fades quite quickly. They are more of a jersey type fabric than the SB Powers/zero gravity

eldorado02 · 18/09/2023 19:02

Assuming you need leggings for exercise, not loungewear, I really rate RBX. However, I only have them in patterns and colours, so I’m not sure if they do matte black.

eldorado02 · 18/09/2023 19:04

I also bought Sweaty Betty leggings (shorts) in TK Maxx last week and they had lots on sale there, probably £40 for full length leggings, IIRC.

Oooohhhh I’ve been looking
for some for weeks. I ordered loads and sent them back! But I did keep: LNDR ( the vids showing you what each one is was really helpful), DHB ( outlet from Wiggle £25 instead of £70 at the mo) and the lululemon running ones ( I didn’t like the align pair I ordered).
ive had some m and s ones in the past which were great but they didn’t last as long as my SB ones.
Lady at the gym I go loves born primitive ( I ruled these out, no pockets) and I did wonder about the NoBull ones too but they didn’t have my size in the ones I liked when I looked.
happy shopping xx

I have some Born Primitive leggings with pockets although they might be an older style, I wear a lot of their stuff for CrossFit. NoBull stuff is nice but very expensive, the matte leggings feel nice but no pockets and they're not super flattering, tend to show lumps and bumps.

My favourite leggings are Lululemon by far, I mostly wear the All The Right Places and Wunder Train styles. Check out Vinted, there are fakes on there but definitely some real ones for good prices, I buy far too much gymwear and occasionally sell Lulus on there when I have a clear out. I have a couple of pairs on there now.

Middleagedmeangirls · 04/10/2023 10:33

On the strength of this thread I bought some Llama leggings. They are really pretty, soft and comfortable but I don't think they are in the same league as SB when it comes to working out. The main reason being that they definitely AREN'T squat proof! If you are going to do any serious bending or squatting you need good big granny pants underneath. Their lightweight softness also means there is no compression or shaping. That doesn't bother me too much but I know for some people it might be an issue that the hold it all in effect you get from more expensive brands isn't there.

I will keep both pairs as they look really nice on and it's nice to have some colour in my fitness wardrobe but I won't be wearing them for yoga again! For that I'll stick to the SBs.

Spideycat · 04/10/2023 14:28

I got some more sweaty betty leggings in the sale. Both power ones but a print and a plain. The plain ones felt much softer and looser than the print ones. The fabric felt a bit thinner too, I could see the edges of my underwear. The print ones are fine but I'm sending the plain ones back.
