What do you wear if you don't wear trainers?

I am looking for casual, flat or low shoes which I can wear for walking around town that aren't trainers.

It's taken me a while to realise but trainers don't suit me, my legs are very short and they tend to be quite rounded and cut off my foot especially the 90s throwbacks that are around at the moment. (The same happens with brogues which are often suggested on here). I need something less heavy, ideally in gold/tan/beige/white.

Trainers also make me look scruffy and I don't need any help with that.

I'm fine in the summer when I wear sandals or ballet flats or plimsolls (very low profile) and fine in the winter when I wear low/no heeled boots. I have various smart/formal options but they are not particularly comfortable for long distances.

I wear the plimsoll type slip-ons from Next.

I'm posting mainly to bump you up the page as my suggestions are probably no use but I switch between:
Brogues - sorry! Usually Clarks
Solovar Gibsons - flat lace ups, similar to Dr Martens so probably too heavy, although very comfortable - can walk forever in them.

Vans
Converse

Camper might have something to suit your needs. Generally very comfortable shoes, and plenty of decent options beyond the wackier styles.

Ah!! Don't worry! Merrells are waterproof - I chuck them in the washing machine when I need to! ☺️

mdinbc · 12/09/2023 22:05

So, no trainers, no brogues, no sandals, ballet flats only in summer...

How about loafers? There are lots of nice styles now, some lower profile than others. Some more elegant styles are available, but still offer comfort. Something like this?

I don't own a pair of trainers. (Well I do, one that I have for pilates).

I wear everything else other than trainers!

Loafers, sandals, so many sandals, boots, again, so many boots.

Shoes! There are many, many styles that aren't trainers.

There are hundreds of shoe-styles that aren't trainers.

Crocs

Every single day

Sandals in the summer I've got several pairs and leather low heels slip ons in the winter. When it's really cold outside I wear my boots. Kuddly slippers inside house in winter.

NatashaDancing · 13/09/2023 01:57

As Galiana said footwear that isn't trainers. It comes in all forms and shapes.

SuperCallieFragilistic · 13/09/2023 02:09

Proper trainers make my legs look silly too.

I wear slip-on loafer/trainer hybrid types of things and have a few variations - leather/ canvas / knitted. They are more slimline than proper trainers, no laces. I guess they are kind of lace-free plimsolls, but the leather ones look a bit less casual.

Monkelmo · 13/09/2023 02:32

I love a deck shoe and wear them all year round

Galiana · 13/09/2023 03:42

Brilliant.

If you have a boat.

SuperCallieFragilistic · 13/09/2023 04:03

@Monkelmo I like boat shoes too! Really comfy and versatile

Galiana · 13/09/2023 04:11

Yeah. Boat shoes are v cool...

Ladyofthelake53 · 13/09/2023 05:05

Vans with footbed in them so comfortable

blahblahblah1654 · 13/09/2023 05:15

Converse most days. Sometimes ballet flats

AdrianeMole · 13/09/2023 05:24

Come Autumn and Winter leather boots. Actually looking forward for the autumn to get them out again. Summer Teva sandals are amazing

Mumofoneandone · 13/09/2023 07:27

I'm totally with you on not wearing trainers. Have a pair of ECCO lace up pumps for summer damp days or when Birkenstock sandals aren't practical.
Otherwise it's boots in the winter.....
And no to trainers with dresses....looks awful!!

It was far too cold as well as wet for sandals yesterday.

Mary28 · 13/09/2023 09:49

Ecco shoes would be my go to for comfortable walking.

RampantIvy · 13/09/2023 09:56

I have some Remonte leather shoes that are as comfortable as trainers.
