Would I get away with these trousers in your office?

Just that really, I have been living in comfy trousers in this heat, but also in this post Covid mashup of wfh/hybrid I'm a bit lost until autumn/winter proper when I tend to live in black tights and shift dresses for work. I work for a finance company in London if that makes a difference!

Would I get away with these trousers in your office?

No (and I’m as casual as it gets for CW)

Aixellency · 12/09/2023 10:17

Don’t be daft! Of course not!

PinkRoses1245 · 12/09/2023 10:17

Yes, in my hippy university office. But no, not in a financial company in London.

72EasyLessons · 12/09/2023 10:18

In my university department, sure. But that’s not an office environment.

Somanycats · 12/09/2023 10:19

No. NHS management.

PinkFootstool · 12/09/2023 10:20

Even in my extremely casual office of jeans and tshirts I'd say those are too casual and unstructured - especially for finance.

SaltyGod · 12/09/2023 10:21

Not as they are styled. Possibly on a Friday if they were worn with different shoes and a smarter too.

If you weren’t customer facing I don’t think anyone would comment but you might get a few internally raised eyebrows. As a manager I might be asked to have a word about office clothing.

Inkypot · 12/09/2023 10:22

It'll depend entirely on your role I'd say. I would wear them to work but I'm a therapist so it wouldn't be unusual. A more traditional office role probably would want less casual.
They're lovely though for what it's worth!

HoraceTheLlama · 12/09/2023 10:22

Yes, but my office is very casual. The directors are often known to rock up in trainers.

Secondaryschoolstress · 12/09/2023 10:22

Nope. Sorry. And we’re very casual

Redlarge · 12/09/2023 10:23

Yeah but mine ismt strictly speaking an office... like a solicitors or something

YupIKnow · 12/09/2023 10:24

No they are festival trousers or the kind you see backpackers wear.

TooOldForThisNonsense · 12/09/2023 10:24

Yes in my office which is casual but depends on your dress code surely?

FrillyGoatFluff · 12/09/2023 10:25

I have these trousers, and live in them at home, but there's no debating the fact that they're see through. I'm ok with DH and the kids seeing and laughing my massive granny pants, but prob not my colleagues.

Even if the style was ok, (which it's not for the office), I think see through trousers are a bit much for work.

chillipod · 12/09/2023 10:25

My office is fairly casual but those trousers wouldn't be suitable.

NowYouSee · 12/09/2023 10:26

I think the combination of the unstructured nature and light grey colour make them look too casual. The sandals definitely don’t help.

Love the floor tiles though!

KnobbingtonKnobberson · 12/09/2023 10:28

I work for an arts organisation and they'd be fine. I suspect the finance world might be a bit different vibe!

Goodornot · 12/09/2023 10:30

No. Law firm.

Theblacksheepandme · 12/09/2023 10:32

A bit of a daft question because it surely depends on the dress code of your office. My office would allow this as it's really casual.

LoobyDop · 12/09/2023 10:35

Yes. But we have contact centres in our building. I’ve seen everything down to denim hot pants. Tracky bottoms are so ubiquitous they don’t even get a raised eyebrow. I personally wouldn’t wear those trousers to work, and I think your clue that they’re too casual is that they wouldn’t really look right with any shoes more structured than flip flops or sandals.

codegeass · 12/09/2023 10:35

If your position doesn't have much to do with the offices where the client meetings take place, then it might be OK, but otherwise no

soberfabulous · 12/09/2023 10:39

Categorically not and I work in a creative industry.

Strawberryfieldsforeverrr · 12/09/2023 10:40

You look like you're off to the beach, not work.

urghhh47 · 12/09/2023 10:44

My DH has worked in Fin tech for years and if he ever goes into an office now it's in jeans and polo so i don't see a problem with them!

manontroppo · 12/09/2023 10:48

At my uni yes, but not for an important meeting. Also, where did you get them from, @VoldemortsKitten ?
