Would I get away with these trousers in your office?

Just that really, I have been living in comfy trousers in this heat, but also in this post Covid mashup of wfh/hybrid I'm a bit lost until autumn/winter proper when I tend to live in black tights and shift dresses for work. I work for a finance company in London if that makes a difference!

Would I get away with these trousers in your office?

Yes, but my office is very casual. The directors are often known to rock up in trainers.

Same here.

It's a smallish company, mainly men. Most of the men are in company logo tops or casual. My boss only looks really smart for meetings.

mewkins · 12/09/2023 10:54

In black they'd have been fine in the public sector place I used to work. Although the shoes kind of make the lm look a bit beachy

Ligglepiggle · 12/09/2023 10:55

I work in financial services and they wouldn’t be a problem in head office

ActDottie · 12/09/2023 11:00

Yep fine at my office :) I work for a corporate bank in finance we can wear what we want.

Even in my extremely casual office of jeans and tshirts I'd say those are too casual and unstructured - especially for finance.

I work in finance and these would be fine.

Colourfulponderings · 12/09/2023 11:02

Yep, tech company.

TheFlis12345 · 12/09/2023 11:03

Anything goes in my office so they would be fine (advertising).

donkra · 12/09/2023 11:04

My office is media/tech and plenty of people wear jeans and t-shirts.

But they wouldn't wear those trousers. Just no. That's beachwear. Finance, hell no.

JanesBlond · 12/09/2023 11:05

My office is very casual (London civil service) and people wear jeans and hoodies, sundress and sandals etc but I would be surprised to see someone in those. Unless maybe from the comms department.

VeridicalVagabond · 12/09/2023 11:06

In my office yes but it's very very casual. Crocs and joggers are not an uncommon sight, and I wore some similar trousers with a cami when it hit 30° last week and no one batted an eyelid. I've seen the HR manager wearing very similar too with sandals. My boss was in board shorts on the hottest day. You get the idea.

I think it a typical office maybe not.

My office is huge about 1000 people, and about 15k total employees across our retail sites 😬 but still very casual

Fine at my work and I work in finance… it isn’t suits, shirts and ties anymore

Justme10 · 12/09/2023 11:13

I work in the legal department for the LA and these would be fine. We are no longer customer facing unless by appointment so very casual dress code.

Whataretheodds · 12/09/2023 11:14

Yes in my 'dress appropriately for what you're doing that day' office (in a bank).

*so long as they're not see-through. It looks a bit as though your pants may be visible at the back.

ComtesseDeSpair · 12/09/2023 11:14

In my office (City, insurance) you’d be fine as long as you weren’t meeting external clients or attending a Board meeting and wearing them with the same sort of top as in your photo / a level smarter.

willWillSmithsmith · 12/09/2023 11:15

I have a couple of pairs very similar to this. They’re definitely not office attire. The last time I wore them was on holiday in Venice, I don’t wear them for every day wear.

Adelaff · 12/09/2023 11:16

No. They look so comfy, I really like them, but I don't think they're suitable for work.

LordEmsworth · 12/09/2023 11:17

No one would bat an eyelid. Financial services, not London, not client facing.

gemloving · 12/09/2023 11:17

No!

NeedMyDress · 12/09/2023 11:18

No and my office is completely casual (jeans/ trainers) but they look shabby and more like something I may wear to do the gardening, wouldn't even run to the supermarket in them!

DatumTarum · 12/09/2023 11:18

Yes. Nobody cares here:

purplemunkey · 12/09/2023 11:19

I mean, I don’t think anyone would pull me up on it in my office but it’s a no from me too. They are firmly in loungewear/beach territory.

OOlivePenderghast · 12/09/2023 11:21

They’d be fine in my office (University). The only rules are no cycle shorts or bare feet.

ElizabethBest · 12/09/2023 11:22

No. They look like the worst elements of both pyjama bottoms and joggers. Sorry!

Starseeking · 12/09/2023 11:24

They look like lounging about trousers, so no.
