Would I get away with these trousers in your office?

Just that really, I have been living in comfy trousers in this heat, but also in this post Covid mashup of wfh/hybrid I'm a bit lost until autumn/winter proper when I tend to live in black tights and shift dresses for work. I work for a finance company in London if that makes a difference!

I think they look fine as long as you wore a smarter top, shoes and jewellery.

There’s a difference between finance as in banking/insurance and finance as in a vendor company.

Rockandrollfangirl · 12/09/2023 11:30

You could in my office but it's very casual there

ttcat37 · 12/09/2023 11:31

Absolutely not unless you are a yoga teacher. I work in an extremely causal office, only flip flops are banned, and I would get the shit ripped out of me for wearing elephant pants for work.

VoldemortsKitten · 12/09/2023 11:32

Yeah I kind of knew I was pushing it a bit! Thanks all for setting me straight. Several people in the office are wearing floral print maxi dresses with more formal layer on top like a smart fitted cardigan/jacket so I think I'll go for that I'll to ride out the last of these hotter days.

Weirdly give a few comments sandals are really commonplace in my office.

The dress code is really vague and seems to be interpreted wildly differently these days. some of the managers (female) come in in jet black jeans with a formal top, and then Pencil skirts and tucked in blouses also big at the moment. They are just not me!

Nobody would say anything but we would be thinking you must have had some laundry/clothing crisis.

I think the combination of the unstructured nature and light grey colour make them look too casual. The sandals definitely don’t help.

Love the floor tiles though!

😂 thank you

Yes, I've recently changed from high St sols to corporate law and they're surprisingly casual with dress. Anything seems to go which really surprised me

Coral569 · 12/09/2023 11:46

They'd be allowed in our office but someone who constantly wears casual clothes might not be taken so seriously. I remember years ago a lady wanted a promotion but always turned up to work in clothes you'd only wear to put the bins out. There were other reasons as well but that was one of the issues noted for turning her down.

Not saying your trousers look that bad, I like them! I just think what you choose to wear to work stands out more than you think sometimes.

Itwasntmeguv · 12/09/2023 11:47

If you were backpacking around the world, these would be great. Working in an office in finance? It's a big, fat no from me too.

Itwasntmeguv · 12/09/2023 11:47

ps. they need a damn good iron too 😁

Royanne · 12/09/2023 11:51

Yes, perfect for the office...of a crystal shop

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 12/09/2023 11:53

No

Too pyjamary

VoldemortsKitten · 12/09/2023 12:03

I did wear them to big Sainsbury's last night to buy some chicken! Maybe I will appear in a 'woman shops in her PJs, how has society come to this?' meme 😬

They'd be fine in my office (NHS Informatics/IT). Though not if they are see through as a PP suggests they are.

Splishsplashsplooshsplosh · 12/09/2023 12:07

You'd be fine at my work. But it's a charity so anything goes 😆

manontroppo · 12/09/2023 10:48

At my uni yes, but not for an important meeting. Also, where did you get them from, @VoldemortsKitten ?

They are an Amazon bargain!

amzn.eu/d/4azDxtj

Apparently these are Mocha, but infact are beigey grey. (Sounds lovely right?) but SO comfy.

I'm a bit funny about what materials I can wear next to my skin but these are the softest coolest cotton.

They clearly just belong at home. Or big Sainsbury's when I am feeling brave!

Not see through. But the more I think about it the more I am seeing MC Hammer tbf and that does not belong in the world of stockbroking sadly.

Teaming them here with some shiny Oxfords, still not going to cut it I'm afraid, MC H 😂

I was only here to find out where you bought them! Excellent trousers, though agree maybe not best for the office

anicecuppateaa · 12/09/2023 12:17

Nope. Law firm. I wear black jeans sometimes but these look too casual.

MelodiousThunk · 12/09/2023 12:19

Yes. Tech firm.

TheChosenTwo · 12/09/2023 12:22

You’d be fine in those in my office, our boss comes in incredibly casually unless he’s got an external meeting.
I wouldn’t wear them if I had an external meeting but would be fine in them at the office.

PickAPark · 12/09/2023 12:23

No - and we are tech - super casual but with a limit. That's over the limit.

Moveoverdarlin · 12/09/2023 12:25

No I’d wear them with a bikini top to walk down to the beach.

accountpasswordaboutyou · 12/09/2023 12:25

I work in film and they'd be fine.

MegaCookie · 12/09/2023 12:27

You would have in my old office.

Only you know your work space.
