Long (truly) waterproof coat

Hi

I've finally realised that I've outgrown the waterproof North Face jacket I've had for 15 years and need to get something that fits me better as a very pear shaped person (size 16-20 depending on brand).

I was looking at Didriksons but really any truly waterproof (rather than repellent) recommendations would be fab, and I want it to fully cover my bum.

I walk 40 minutes each morning on the nursery run so need something that can take a soaking. Warmth I can supplement with jumpers underneath. Budget up to £300.

Any recommendations for something that will last and keep me dry?

I have a beautiful Ilse Jacobson coat that comes well below my bum and does not let in a drop of water.

Didrikson for me, I've got a knee length winter coat and it's never let a drop of water in it can be a bit too warm sometimes but I've learnt to take layers off so will wear it just with a long sleeve top underneath. My mum does the opposite and has one of their thinner coats and layers up

I bought this Brasher coat for walking the dog and it's absolutely waterproof very warm and I'd highly recommend it.

Stutterheim are properly waterproof but not remotely warm

I have a didriksons parka and it is my favourite thing in the world. Goes to just above my knees, completely waterproof, have never yet felt cold wearing it (I live in the North of Scotland!). I even take it camping in summer to put under my sleeping bag as insulation! Has very useful pockets too. I don't ever use the fluffy part of the hood though as its never dry enough so is a bit pointless.

I’ve never got wet in my Didrikson and it’s always kept me warm!

Mine is an erika, but I did buy it a number of years ago so might be called something else now?

Well some good news for you, they now stock Ilse Jacobsen in John Lewis!! There is a good selection on the website and I have also seen them in stores.

I've got a Barbour Bowlees jacket (as they call it) though it comes past my knees

Slight padding on it ( didn't realise this) so quite welcome

I don’t think they do my exact one anymore, as it’s about 7 years old. It is a parka though, and it’s so warm I definitely can’t wear it to go round the shops, and I rarely have to zip it up - and I really feel the cold.

It cost £150 in the end of winter sale, so would probably be over £200 now!

Argh I've just ordered a Stutterheim long jacket from this 😂 I need a long lightweight waterproof as I get so hot keeping up with the dog. Really hoping for the price it is waterproof, I've binned so many this last 2 years that leak!

My Seasalt Janelle is really long and waterproof. I know they don’t look great though!!

rainsisters.com/en-gb do long and waterproof coats. They're a bit of a pain to buy because you can't try them on and their sizes are a bit unreliable, but they're very waterproof and mine is probably the most beautiful cost I've ever owned.

Rohan, Didriksons, Seasalt. My Didriksons is a parka for cold weather/rain/snow. It's stood up to hail, sleet, snow and torrential rain in Iceland and a UK and German extreme winter. They are great.

Stutterheim! They're rubber so super waterproof, can get a bit warm in them if you're moving as not breathable. Like wearing a giant wellie.
Have a look on vinted !

I'd say not exactly lightweight, but deffo waterproof!
Rains DK are along the same line but lighter weight.
