Does this dress work as workwear?

I have this dress and virtually identical shoes. If I paired that outfit with a tailored black blazer (and keep the jacket on all day), do you reckon it could be work appropriate? I work for the govt, smart-casual dress code but I have some formal meetings coming up. I feel comfortable in this outfit but not sure if I should go smarter for the meeting!

No.

NatashaDancing · 10/09/2023 18:01

No, not even with a jacket.

fluffiphlox · 10/09/2023 18:02

A hard no from me.

WimpoleHat · 10/09/2023 18:02

Agree with others - no. Not even with a jacket!

Somaliwildass · 10/09/2023 18:02

Absolutely not

MaybeanothertimeNotReally · 10/09/2023 18:02

No that's a night out dress, completely inappropriate for work.

BumbleNova · 10/09/2023 18:02

Sorry - not really! It's just completely the wrong vibe.

What do you you usually wear?

Willmafrockfit · 10/09/2023 18:02

even the model looks uncomfortable

Whataretheodds · 10/09/2023 18:03

Are you planning to wear a bra with it?

If your office dress code is smart-casual or casual and you wear a bra and vest or t-shirt underneath the dress (and jacket unless casual dress code + you wear the t-shirt).

Otherwise no.

Haveallthesongsbeenwritten · 10/09/2023 18:03

Absolutely not

HelterSkelter224 · 10/09/2023 18:03

Surprised at the no answers! I'd wear this to work lol. If there's a jacket I don't see why not?

CyberCritical · 10/09/2023 18:06

It looks very thin and clingy, saw someone out wearing something like it this morning and I could see every dimple, patch of cellulite and bumpy bit . It's also just the right colour to look like you're not wearing anything at all from a bit of a distance, like those 'nude' coloured leggings.

Kangarude · 10/09/2023 18:07

Definite no from me Shock

FannyBawz · 10/09/2023 18:08

You must be kidding 😂

Papillon23 · 10/09/2023 18:10

I am fairly flexible on work wear but my stance is generally that straps shouldn't be spaghetti straps over the shoulders, just because it tends to look inevitably very casual.

I'm not so old fashioned as to insist on sleeves - there are plenty of perfectly smart sleeveless dresses, but I think the straps on this make it a weekend rather than a weekday dress.

Stripeypyjamas · 10/09/2023 18:10

That's going to show everything, vpl, nips, belly button, lumps and bumps. You could maybe maybe get away with it if you're immaculately toned and wear a long sleeve top underneath and somehow have a magic wand to pull the outfit off as stylish rather than a mess.

Mynewnameis · 10/09/2023 18:11

Nope

Stripeypyjamas · 10/09/2023 18:12

I would like to see the model so the running man dance move in it though, to see if it pings her back into the middle every time.

Katrinawaves · 10/09/2023 18:13

Lol. That ones got a real lingerie/nightwear vibe about it. I think it would raise eyebrows in most workplaces even with a jacket over the top!

ShyCity · 10/09/2023 18:14

No. I have dresses that again that I wear for work with a blazer, but not in that thin material or with spaghetti straps.

wavws · 10/09/2023 18:14

Ah okay, I’m short, flat chested and straight up and down so it’s not really clingy on me! It also comes right down to my ankles. With a jacket, you can’t tell it’s sleeveless. However I’ll sort something else!

Britpopbaby · 10/09/2023 18:16

No!

Cheeesus · 10/09/2023 18:18

It’s just the wrong sort of fabric. Sorry, OP. It’s even worse in the other photos. Even if it fits more loosely on you, I think it would look cheap in a work situation.

wavws · 10/09/2023 18:22

Would this outfit work better?

these cream trousers with a white satin blouse, black blazer and black loafers? They’re the only trousers I could find that were the right length!

Op, I'm intrigued by your description of how this looks on you vs the model, which sounds like it would be OK, do you have a pic?
