How much would you pay for a lipstick?

My favorite lipstick has gone up from to £26.00. I love it and cheaper ones don't compare but I feel it's now going up too much, even though it does last ages and I ony use that one. I would feel extravagant buying it now or am I being silly? I know you get what you pay for but I have premium brand foundation too.

I think that's a reasonable price for something you wear often, especially if you feel others don't compare.
Perhaps you can ask for one on Birthdays and Christmas?

caramond · 04/09/2023 21:26

I buy MAC at £24 - or usually buy when it's on offer nearer to £20.

JaneIntheBox · 04/09/2023 21:26

That's a decent price if you use it often. My absolute max would be £40. I think expensive foundation and hair products are worth it too. I don't have the former, as I don't need it (good skin thankfully) but my hair is thick, coarse and generally hideous to manage and so costs a fortune!

Also surely if it stays on compared to cheaper ones you use less so it saves you money anyway?

purplecorkheart · 04/09/2023 21:28

Realistically, how long does a tube last? Applying with a brush also stretches it out.

The old saying buy cheap buy twice (or way more) often applies. If the lipstick is long lasting and you don't have to apply too often compared to cheaper brand then it may still work out cheaper than an inferior product. Buy 4 cheaper lipsticks may work out more expensive than your one lipstick if they both last six.months

With lipstick you generally get what you pay for: more pigment, great shades, nice textures.
This is why I love Chanel and Sisley in particular.

magneticmoon · 04/09/2023 21:30

£25 for a good one, rather than say 3 cheaper at £8 each.

Time40 · 04/09/2023 21:32

About £5, to be honest!

CornishTiger · 04/09/2023 21:34

I’d be keen to find a discount or offer but tbh if it was the only one I used and it lasted then I’ll pay it.

Laboriprofumi · 04/09/2023 21:36
  1. I lick my lips, worried about safety of ingredients and probably silly in thinking if I pay more I'll be safe 😅 and I like a deep pigment... Is this a marketing survey disguised as an MN question?
ThinkingAgainAndAgain · 04/09/2023 21:37

Yes, I’d pay that. I’ve paid more on eBay for a discontinued Estée Lauder lipstick. A lipstick lasts me ages and is something I wear every day. It’s worth it.

Barbiesback · 04/09/2023 21:40

Treat yourself OP. You can't beat a nice quality lipstick. I've bought 2 Dior ones as gifts! Both friends said they were great. I've had a Laura Mercier lipstick brand new bought on Depop before or you could check vented too!

I also have NYX lipsticks and other drug store lipsticks too.

jallopeno · 04/09/2023 21:47

£30 tops

Have you seen the new chanel ones that are nearly £200?!

Ponks · 04/09/2023 21:52

I'd pay £15-20
If you love it, look out for offers or discounts. I like some high end skincare but never pay full price.

Barbiesback · 04/09/2023 21:56

Haha since your moaning about what people spend on a holiday on another thread yet your willing to pay £30 for a lippy. Oooo see its OK to treat yourself! 😀

Barbiesback · 04/09/2023 21:56

@jallopeno

Spinningcats · 04/09/2023 22:01

If you can afford it then no worries. It’s like 3 glasses of wine in a pub or a weeks worth of coffees.

She isn't. Otherwise she'd have bought it already not started a thread about it!

Barbiesback · 04/09/2023 22:05

@JaneIntheBox that wasn't for OP.... I'm all for a nice lippy!

What is this supposed to mean? Just asking.

I would never pay that for a lipstick, I have quite a few lipsticks over twenty, a mix of revlon, maybelline and other highstreet ones, I also have a clinique, bareminerals estee lauder but I don't think they are any better than the cheaper ones.

No it is not a marketing question, it is a genuine one.

As an aside I do think it depends on your lips.
Mine are quite dry and lipstick tends to flake off very easily, or worse accentuate the dryness...

Barbiesback · 04/09/2023 22:18

@pussinboots61 it wasn't for you. It was @jallopeno saying she's willing to pay £30 for a lipstick. Yet she's on another active thread moaning about people going on a holiday!

TotalOverhaul · 04/09/2023 22:18

i think that £24 is justifiable if you wear it every day. I use a much cheaper lipstick because I love the colour and texture but it lasts five minutes. If I could find a glossy moisturising lipstick that stays on all day and doesn't need retouching I'd happily pay £24 or more.
