How much would you pay for a lipstick?

My favorite lipstick has gone up from to £26.00. I love it and cheaper ones don't compare but I feel it's now going up too much, even though it does last ages and I ony use that one. I would feel extravagant buying it now or am I being silly? I know you get what you pay for but I have premium brand foundation too.

If you love it and can still pay the bills or whatever, it’s justified. Have you seen some of the crap men spend their money on without soul searching over the justification for it?

I pay between £20 and £27 (approximately) for my Lisa Eldridge lipsticks. A red, a neon pink and a nude gloss. That’s it, my entire lipstick collection.

I've got a few Lisa Eldridge lipsticks which I love and they stay put for longer than average.

The colours and texture are gorgeous

Haha since your moaning about what people spend on a holiday on another thread yet your willing to pay £30 for a lippy. Oooo see its OK to treat yourself! 😀

So you're just a mean stalker then

Well done you you must be so proud of yourself

HappiDaze · 08/09/2023 03:09

I'd love to know how much they cost to make for each company

Riverlee · 08/09/2023 03:11

Up to £15. Never paid that much for a lipstick. Maybe if I did, and noticed the differeance, I would pay it.

How about you just say nothing at all and keep your opinion to yourself. It is not achieving anything and is coming across as sarcastic when this is supposed to be a helpful discussion forum, not a slanging match.

It's a public forum and I'll say what I want, thanks. Obviously you're hyper sensitive to any kind of view that doesn't match your own. Maybe you should look into why that is.

Yawn.

This is a good point. Make up wise I have one of everything. So I guess it's the same as having multiples of cheaper items

Exactly, it's a public forum therefore people can post about what they want but you are posting to be critical about what people are asking advice about which is the issue. There's a vast difference between offering advice and criticism.

The best drug store lipsticks are the l'oréal color Riche. The normal cream ones, not the matte, which are also good. The smell is very similar to Lancome lipsticks and the colours are amazing and rich. High end I like Clinique colour pop, Lancome and Chanel. I do like chubby stick style ones too but they're not really worth the cost of high end. I have recently purchased a few of the No7 moisture drench and the matte ones. I'm quite impressed. I think at the end of the day, if you can afford £20 plus and it makes you happy go for it. I've always found of I try to substitute what I really want with a cheap knock off, I always end up buying the one I wanted all along.

Ok really don't understand why you're having a go @AvocadotoastORahouse.
We're all obsessive's on here, whether it's about fashion, style or make up.
At various times I've been perfume obsessed, transiently ... lipstick obsessed & now I'm a Cashmere obsessive 😊

£30 tops

Have you seen the new chanel ones that are nearly £200?!

£140 I think I saw them the Chanel website.. what the heck are they all about? No way can a lipstick be worth that much. 😂

I remember when MAC lipsticks were a tenner and that was a splurge and you could take 6 empties back and get a free one AND it was all fields rounds here.

😂Yeah me too! I love Mac lipsticks. They were around the £17.50 mark for ages then suddenly kept increasing the prices! I’m disappointed that they stopped the Back 2 Mac too.

hyperspacebug · 05/10/2023 11:39

As lipstick enthusiast, I've had a mix of budget and high end lipsticks. Some high end are worth it, some not as much in terms of intended functionality (preferences may vary!). I could go on...

The one that has the most value of money for me - it seems to be MAC Twig. With almost daily use it lasted 3 years (it was before I started hoarding other lipsticks for fun), most effortlessly perfect natural shade, it has strong pigmentation and didn't require much reapplication (which often isn't the case with cheaper lipsticks I found). And the bullet doesn't melt and break too! (looking at you, Guerlain, Kiko Milano, Lisa Eldridge, Chanel!).

My £50 handbags lasted less!

Some choices may come across as incredibly frivolous - Gucci one in shade you barely wear but got carried away because of packaging. But who am I to judge 🙃

Some brands genuinely understand colour theory and have wide range of wearable shade selection (Charlotte Tilbury, Lisa Eldridge, MAC), whereas with some brands mauve is like teenager picking colour from Photoshop palette an call it a day.

There's also time-cost to factor in...you got a perfect shade but it's Chanel (and bought from Chanel because of being lured in by shiny glam counter, easier experience of swatching things in Boots and you got lucky with assistant great in colour theory helping you picking), then finding cheaper alternative may be just lots of time spent comparing, youtube reviews...etc., esp if you don't have all the experience to understand all vague descriptive terms like 'buttery, velvety, blurring effect waxy finish'. Do that for choosing washing machines or cars, not lipsticks)

avocadotofu · 05/10/2023 11:42

If you really like it I'd go for it. The most I've ever paid is £40.

GettingStuffed · 05/10/2023 11:43

I haven't bought any for years, thanks to glossy box. If I was to buy one it would be a cheaper end high street.
I may well buy one for my holiday in November though

Choux · 05/10/2023 13:38

I just googled Mac Twig and it seems Boots are doing 20% off premium beauty today only making this MAC lipstick £17.60 instead of £22. Useful discount if you have a favourite premium lipstick that you can't find a cheaper version of.
