I like to replenish my knickers and socks each autumn as my socks have all shrunk and are mismatched from a year ago. I ordered 2 packs of pants and a few packs of socks in navy, black, grey and some patterned. The cost -£75!! How do people afford this!!

This was M&S.

Go to Primark or a supermarket instead. M&S and Next are ridiculous prices now.

Escalateandcreate · 03/09/2023 08:12

Primark.I think they’re brilliant for pants and socks.

DustyLee123 · 03/09/2023 08:37

Talking about prices, I don’t know how Boots survives. I go in there to buy one specific thing, and if I get anything else the prices always shock me.

I wouldn't replace all my socks or pants every year. I don't find that things wear out that quickly. Usually wash at 30 and line dry, which may be the key

TheLongGloriesOfTheWinterMoon · 03/09/2023 10:36

Well they clearly weren't the M&S socks and pants I buy!
Multi pack cotton. About £8 a pack.

Summerhillsquare · 03/09/2023 10:36

Were they fancy pants 😁

Tracker1234 · 03/09/2023 10:38

How can they be that price? Multi packs are circa £10-£12.

summerdressing · 03/09/2023 13:53

It was
2 packs of 4 pants £12 each so £24
5 packs of 5 pairs socks £10 each so £50
£74!

That’s a lot of socks! Prices seem fine to me.

BarbaraofSeville · 03/09/2023 13:58

Most people probably aren't buying 25! pairs of socks and getting rid of them after a year. That's madness.

I get my socks and pants from M&S. They're probably up to 2/3 years old and nowhere near needing replacing.

On average I probably buy a pack of pants and a pack of socks per year, so maybe about £20 not £75.

RhymesWithTangerine · 03/09/2023 14:00

25 pairs of socks? Yes, that will be expensive.

zgaze · 03/09/2023 14:01

How many legs do you have that you need 25 pairs of socks 😂

parentstress · 03/09/2023 14:02

They shrink in the dryer or get holes in so I feel like that's not excessive!

GrazingSheep · 03/09/2023 14:03

I replace mine when they have 70% off in the sales. If they need to be replaced.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 03/09/2023 14:05

M&S knickers and socks are still very reasonably priced imo. Yours were expensive because you ordered so many pairs of socks - surely that's obvious?

As an aside, I think the quality of their socks has dropped substantially.

Sarvanga38 · 03/09/2023 14:05

I’m not sure I’ve bought that many socks in my life, let alone every year. Do you just throw all the ‘old’ ones out every year?

M&S knickers are such dire quality now.

Sounds like it's the tumble dryer use that's excessive. Dry them outside or even hang up inside, either way, get a socktopus or two.

Replacing socks after a year is bad enough, more so when you buy 25 pairs at a time then you've only worn each pair 15 times on average.

Redlarge · 03/09/2023 14:05

How many did you buy. Sainsburys good quality. About £6 for pack 5 socks and £7 for pack 5 knickers. Even if you got 2 packs of both thats only £26.

Yeah im the same id say. Unless im treating myself to a bra and knickers set... maybe once a year... asda do great ones and very reasonable.
I wear the 2 pack bralettes from primark most days... think they were £6 for 2 and wash lovely.

Moredrobe · 03/09/2023 14:09

OP be honest.

Are you a spider?

Gingercatlover · 03/09/2023 14:17

@DustyLee123
Yes I was in Boots earlier today and saw a can of Dove deodrant for £6!

SwedishEdith · 03/09/2023 14:18

Buy 25 pairs of socks per year is excessive. Either ask for them for Christmas or wear 7 pairs until they've worn out and then start on the next 7. Unless you have badly fitting shoes, I can't see how it's possible to wear out 25 pairs of socks per year.

I find Sainsbury's socks horrible though. Last time I was looking, I had to buy the men's because the women's were in horrible pastel colours and/or covered in cupcakes. But then the men's are too big.
