tunainatin · 21/08/2023 22:39

I couldn't find it last year so stuck with my old one. My perfect coat is:
Wool or wool look
Knee length ish
Hooded
No belt
No toggles
Probably no zip
Not too fitted around the middle
Patch pockets a bonus
Not black
Under £100 (can be second hand)
If you see it, please could you let me know 😁

What about this? Woolovers hooded duffle

tunainatin · 22/08/2023 06:42

Thank you I had seen that one but it's a bit too short and jacket-y as opposed to coat-y!

For wool under £100, I have found charity shops to be best. Got a lovely Hobbs coat last year.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 22/08/2023 07:52

What size? My old one is a hooded duffle with a zip, grey wool, size 14. I could sell it to you for a lot less than £100 as I am making a new one this autumn.

tunainatin · 22/08/2023 13:25

Thecountess - you make your own coats? That's amazing, sadly I'm a size 10.

Lentilweaver I do look regularly and live in hope!

This would almost be perfect if it had a hood. I don't think many wool coats have hoods. Superdry

tunainatin · 22/08/2023 13:39

You are right it's the hood that is the issue, but my current coat is perfect apart from not having a hood, so I'll stick with it if I can't find one. I'm sure there were lots of wool coats with around 20 years ago!

It's quite strange, given how much it rains in this country. I love wool coats but the lack of hood always puts me off as I am in London and walk a lot. So end up never wearing them and putting on my puffa.

ChilliPB · 22/08/2023 14:07

Are you looking for something that doesn’t have any fastenings? I wasn’t sure if no belt/no toggles/no zip meant you wanted an open coat or just looking at something that buttoned up.

Are you after something smart or casual?

If you google “hooded wool coat” you’ll get some options.

This one is over budget but might be worth keeping an eye on for sale etc.
Similar but cheaper.

This one is a random brand but might fit the bill.

And another random brand.

Also if you’re open to second hand, eBay is your friend. If I’m looking for something specific, I’ll create a search with all the filters (size, material, style, colour etc) and save it so that you get notifications when new items meeting the criteria come up.

I second this.

Earlier in the summer I got an amazing coast in local charity shop - I wasn't looking for one but it found me!
Black
Wool/cashmere
no belt
buttons
knee length
no hood though but that doesnt worry me.
Its quite old I think but in "as new" condition. Super soft and £10
I can't wait to be wearing it

Rina66 · 22/08/2023 14:26

I bought this detachable hood from Amazon...could you buy one of these and then make any cost into a hooded version?

LimeCheesecake · 22/08/2023 14:29

I think it’s wool and a hood that’s the issue- because wool coats aren’t great in the rain, you need an umbrella so you wouldn’t put the hood ip, if you want a coat with a hood it’s either going to be a traditional duffle style (with toggles) or not wool.

I have this, and I absolutely love it. It's so nice on. Appreciate the removable hood might not be quite what you're looking for, though.

Lentilweaver · 22/08/2023 14:35

I love that @shivbo2014 but there is very little wool content in that, no? but tempted because I am tired of navy and grey coats.

25% I think! It's lovely and heavy though and feels good quality!

Blueroses99 · 22/08/2023 16:32

We have similar taste in coats! I had an M&S woollen coat with a hood that saw me through university in the rainiest city in England (probably). It was knee length with buttons and big pockets, no belt, zips or toggles. But it was black and was nicknamed the Grim Reaper 😂

That's fab! Not quite the look I want though.

I do love that but I'm quite slight so oversized styles tend to bury me.

The 3rd of these links is closest but I'm not keen on the collar/hood combo. I think I'm just too fussy 🙄

I'd have a look on vinted

You could pick up higher end second hand at that budget. I'd search for Hobbs, Whistles, John Lewis, phase eight, Boden

Flygirl94 · 22/08/2023 17:13

I got the Hush avia coat from John Lewis in the sale. It’s still showing online in most sizes for £68
