Anyone else sick of cross body bags?

Makemineacosmo · 21/08/2023 21:44

Actually I love them for the convenience and having free hands etc but I noticed today that just about every woman I saw had almost identical bags. Me included. Nice Ellie Beaumont bag with changeable straps. I love this bag but god I'm not very original.

Anyone any suggestions for a nice medium sized every day bag? Budget not massive, about £80 max.

Thank you, I'm not really a lover of rucksacks (though I really like the leopard one).

How about a hobo bag?

lastseasonstop · 21/08/2023 22:15

Me but I don’t know what I want. I like that fiorelli backpack, the tan one but I don’t want to feel like I’m back at primary school.

PrinceHaz · 21/08/2023 22:17

I don’t eat fat strap crossover gas to go. Very comfortable.

Highdaysandholidays1 · 21/08/2023 22:22

I have sloping shoulders and always end up feeling strangulated somehow. My tip is to go on Vinted, you could get some fab barely used bags on there, with receipts/tags for that price. I have had to stop looking, there's so many nice bags on there, I search by brand and price (and leather).

Ambi · 21/08/2023 22:28

I have slopy shoulders and can't wear shoulder bags without clutching them tight. I have a tiny crossbody which works well but I've switched to a wristlet as I only carry my small wallet, keys and phone in it.

Karatema · 21/08/2023 22:44

I made my own. It's definitely an original! 🤣

What?

declutteringmymind · 21/08/2023 23:40

I hated them, tried loads but still hated them but finally found THE one.

It's a bit larger and fits all I need in it. It doesn't have a flap that I have to whack my boob with and peer over to get at my things. It's work and casual appropriate and it's designer without being too loud.

Makemineacosmo · 21/08/2023 23:54

That's beautiful @declutteringmymind but sadly it's way way out of my budget.

It is. Went all in with it. Birthday, Vinted money cashback but it makes me disproportionately happy. All Saints have similar ones too, and on Vinted.

Vohgue · 22/08/2023 00:21

I'd love to find a new crossbody in leather, similar to that Isabel Marant (but not with the designer price tag!). I like the larger size.

declutteringmymind · 22/08/2023 00:49

The second one is v large. I bought it online and sent it back.

Cluckycluck · 22/08/2023 08:25

Oliver Bonas always do lovely bags

FourChimneys · 22/08/2023 08:32

Karatema me too. I make them so they exactly fit my specifications. My latest one was made from some lovely vintage velvet from a charity shop skirt and lined with fabric from an old shirt of DH's. It cost less than £5, including the thread and zip.

EffortlessDesmond · 22/08/2023 08:32

Those looking for new bags could do worse that look at the Parfois website. Parfois is the Portuguese equivalent to Claire's Accessories, but their bags are decent looking and inexpensive.

Wherethecrawdadssingg · 22/08/2023 08:37

Another here to suggest Oliver Bonas and Fossil

thereisnotachance · 22/08/2023 08:49

I tend to wear cross body bags and in the winter, over a coat, it's fine but in the summer, over a T shirt, it's so unflattering. Makes my boobs look like two huge cushions, LOL.

Have you thought about 'the healthy back bag'?

I agree the ones with the changeable straps are everywhere for the last 8 years I think.
Why not stick with cross body but without the identifying changeable straps.
There are plenty out there.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 22/08/2023 09:51

I really don’t like the ones with changeable straps. I caught dh looking at them the other day and had to subtly tell him so. I have a perfectly good one he got me from biba about ten years ago with a matching strap. It’s magic, fits loads in. They are a pain in winter with big coats I find.
