Your Fashion Buy Regrets in the Last Year?

I am not asking about “what the hell I was thing about” of your youth but recent made purchases, when you should have known better?

Mine were a load of quality white round neck t-shirts for building my wardrobe basics, they just do not suit me - should have bought v-necks…

A pair of very expensive cricket white sweatshirt material shorts that I washed once and have gone a horrible dingy grey already.

some wedge heels for summer that gave me blisters, so i threw them away.

This Kate Barton coat. Never worn it. Thankfully it was in the sale 😳

I also bought this hat which goes beautifully with it.

Am hoping for an invitation to a royal funeral or something!

A pair of flat lace up ankle boots from Clarks, which I was planning on wearing with dresses and tights. They look great on other people with skinnies or dresses - on my short, bandy legs not so much. And they look awful with straight leg jeans.

I had a gift certificate that was about to expire so I panic bought some beautiful, impractical shoes. I wore them once and they ripped my feet apart. I am keeping them out to remind me of my folly then hope to sell them (worn only once after all)

A pretty kimono from One Hundred Stars, swayed by rave reviews on here. Looks pretty hanging on my wardrobe door but awful on, too short, doesn't even reach my waist band. Didn't get round to returning, going to EBay it today.

I've got pretty good at avoiding this since I switched to a capsule wardrobe but for me this year it's a pair of trainers - I love the look of them but they aren't comfortable and I shouldn't have kept them on that basis. Usually i know if i dither at all over anything im trying on at home that the answer is no and it goes back but these slipped through the net.

Not the end of the world as I'll resell them but still annoying.

Some coated skinny jeans, I love them and have worn my other ones so much they are losing their coating. Only they didn't have my size so I bought the next size down because I told myself that I'd lose weight and fit into them. However instead of losing weight, the middle-aged, menopausal belly has made an appearance. They're hanging in my wardrobe forlornly

Some high mint velvet wedges that make me so tall i feel daft

A pair of boots that (long, irrelevant story) I did not return in time but also cannot zip up due to my freakishly fat ankles. Keep hoping the ankles will magically deflate but clearly not.

And a dress - tiered, sleeveless , smocked- that instead of making me look boho and wafty makes me look more like Eric Bristow in a frock.

Several pairs of block heeled sandals I thought I’d wear to work or when going out. The weather hasn’t lent itself to wearing them ever as I didn’t want cold feet. I’m sure they will be worn next year.

I'm sure it doesn't. I think S&B gets hung up on clothes being "flattering" and ignoring that an item of clothing can itself just be beautiful.

A cord dress from Made in Italy.
I was lured in by the softness of the fabric, and totally overlooked that "one size" absolutely drowned me, despite being a tall, booby size 16. But it also had bizzarejt narrow sleeves.

Not amount of fettling, belts etc would make it "fit". I thought about trying to get it altered for months, realised that that would cost more that it cost to start with, and charity shopped it a couple of weeks ago.

A white broderie anglaise style maxi skirt to lift my 'summer' wardrobe. It still has the label on and takes up lots of space in my wardrobe as I don't want to crease it.

The summer has been terrible, we go camping a lot and I work in an igloo (fully air conditioned office). My summer wardrobe usually just involves removing my jacket/sweater so I don't know what I was thinking.

Some Timberland sandals. The sandals are nice, but we can't wear open shoes at work (HCP) and it hasn't stopped raining long enough to wear them anywhere else. They look at me reproachfully, every time I open my wardrobe.

Puma trainers. So uncomfortable

My Grenson boots. They look great on all the Influencers, Holly W etc. but they just make me look like I'm about the hike up Snowden whatever I wear them with. Also, they are pretty uncomfortable.

I also bought a beige oversized jacket from Zara. No idea what I was thinking, the colour drains me, the jacket swamps me and makes me look huge. Nope!

White cotton tops for summer. As entirely predicted, they are already stained at the neck from sun cream. Maybe I can dye them. But every year I do it again.

Various shoes (ongoing issue) because of knee and foot problems. I've yet to find "the ones" but always leave it too late to return.

A dress from One Hundred Stars that I could use as a marquee for summer garden parties, and another one with an utterly impossible neckline. Whatever I do it won’t sit right, and the iron doesn’t know what to do with it.

An embroidered waistcoat from Zara that made me feel like Sandi Toksvig on her holidays.

Try this and/or eucalyptus oil. Wash cool, avoid using optical brighteners, hang out in sunshine (if we ever get any...).

3 Sofia shirts from mango, when I realised that my large collection of oversized shirts made me look like a rugby player.

It look many hours of searching to find fitted-ish and long enough cotton shirts with a bit of stretch for plus sized me in this age of wall to wall oversize.

It involved forgetting to take back in time two Boden and 2 other mango shirts, a too-see-through shirt from somewhere and a too frilly one from monsoon.

So these 3 shirts cost a squillion pounds

AND THEN WE DIDN'T HAVE A SUMMER

Youve convinced me that I need to return the Grenson boots that arrived on Friday. They look fine on but the leather is so hard that Im not sure it will ever soften enough to be comfortable. My feet are too precious to be tortured with having to ‘break them in’.
