Hi, I'm currently suffering with Sciatica which means no heels as can't walk and numb foot. One of my legs is also a different colour (gp aware). This means that I'm looking for a longer dress for a wedding next week. I'm a size 16 and tall. Can anyone please help? I'm really struggling to find something and dont think I'll be able to make it to any shops.

Should I just buy American tan or black tights with a shorter dress??? 🤣

I don't think you should feel the need to cover your legs unless you otherwise prefer a longer dress.

What colours suit you and what's your budget? Do you already have suitable shoes you'd be comfortable in or do you need to buy some?

minipie · 16/08/2023 14:28

How tall are you, do standard maxi dresses tend to fit or too short? What colours and what sort of budget? Phase Eight is a good place to look for wedding suitable maxis, if budget permits.

Gymnopedie · 16/08/2023 14:29

What colours do you like?
Long sleeves, short, sleeveless?
What neckline?
How long is long? Maxi? Midaxi?
Patterned or plain?

What about something like this (dress it up a bit more if you need to):

I'm 5' 8". Wouldn't want to spend more than £70 really. Don't mind any colours or patterns. I've got wide hips. I think I would just have to wait a pair of flat sandals. I have gold and silver. I just want to feel half nice at a time when I really don't at all.

I'm not sure about those trousers, I think I'd look frumpy. Maybe a jumpsuit though??

There must be some colours that suit you better than others? You'll know the things in your wardrobe that just lift your fave in a way that others don't?

Sameold23 · 16/08/2023 14:43

I like navy and greens. But honestly, I'm really desperate and will wear anything that covers me!

I’d wear wide leg trousers and a lovely silk blouse with flat sandals and a cool clutch.

FuzzHair · 16/08/2023 14:54

How about this and then spend the rest of the budget on a nice bag and fascinator if you're feeling fancy www.boohoo.com/shirred-waist-scarf-print-maxi-dress/DZZ30349.html

vix_85 · 16/08/2023 14:57

Sameold23 · 16/08/2023 15:05

This is rather lovely: www.asos.com/prd/204252470?acquisitionsource=pasteboard

ASOS also stock a Tall range and the Hope & Ivy brand so worth a proper look.

Sameold23 · 16/08/2023 16:26

Thanks @BrioLover but that wouldn't suit me. I just can't seem to find anything and can't actually go shopping.

I like the dress from next that you linked. Is it too much for polyester, only you can answer if you think it will be worth the money to you.

If you like it, that's half the battle so i would say buy it and try it on, you can always return and I think silver would look lovely with it too.

Talipesmum · 16/08/2023 18:10

I have a hot squash maxi dress from next - mine is a jersey one and you could maybe dress it up for a wedding, or there are chiffon ones that might be dressier? It’s v nice to wear. I’m also a size 16, about 5ft 7 and it’s a good floor length for me, fine with flat shoes.

here’s one example but there are lots of colours etc: https://fhwt.app.link/oJdWlDtDjCb

I have this dress in a size 16 and it's beautiful. Really flattering and would be perfect for a wedding

As a fellow back pain sufferer, I'd be cautious about loo visits in a jumpsuit!
However, the navy one suggested upthread is lovely

YellowJoggers · 16/08/2023 18:19

Twisted Wunder do lots of fab long dresses.

MatildaTheCat · 16/08/2023 18:33

As a very long term sufferer of sciatica I’d recommend you consider your footwear very carefully. Flat flat shoes are awful. If you haven’t already sorted this I’d recommend looking at something with good arch support and shape like This

For dresses try Nobody’s Child they have a huge range of nice maxi dresses which are very reasonably priced and flattering. Here

I hope you get some relief from your back soon.
