For aaaaaages I moaned about KM never wearing trousers, then eventually she started adding them to her wardrobe more frequently around five years ago. But it's getting a bit overkill now and I think she needs to start mixing it up a bit again! She was out today... in yet another trouser/blazer combo!

If I was visiting a an RAF base and required to climb in and out of helicopters and crouch down to examine aviation equipment I would be wearing trousers as well.

Maireas · 18/09/2023 20:24

I think it's a smart and practical outfit, although flats would have been better, imo. Bless her, she's so self conscious, still.

I agree that trousers are more suited today and I'd choose flatter shoes if I was going to be doing anything remotely active. I thought stilettos for the prison visit were an odd choice too but I'm sure the prisoners didn't mind!

BirdiePlantaganet · 18/09/2023 22:07

I agree, poor Kate needed flats. She needs to look to Meghan for flat shoe style inspiration.

Gooseysgirl · 18/09/2023 22:28

My point was that it's just getting a bit boring and uninspiring, I want to see her mixing it up a bit again!

Yes I saw a vid of her jumping down from a helicopter in her heels - she must have ankles of steel

themessygarden · 19/09/2023 08:53

I wish she would get a bit trendy with her outfits, she could be trendy and appropriate. Even wear a nice shirt with the suit, it always seems to be a t-shirt.

I think that's the goal. I believe that her office stopped providing details of her outfits. The idea is that she shouldn't be focused on for her clothes.

Personally, I'm all in favour of a good pair of trousers and a jacket/blazer and t-shirt. it's what the vast bulk of us wear day in and day out in offices and for work. The shoes though... definitely needs a rethink from a sheer practicality perspective.

You can't blame her for being self conscious or making safe choices, given all the attention she gets. Newspaper articles, online stuff, even us lot.

I'd have liked to see her go complete literal dressing in full camouflage/military fatigues - I think she'd look great!

I think the trouser suits are just seen as a bit of a uniform replacing the dreaded coat dresses. They work for most things but would be nice to mix it up with some different colours, styles and interesting (flatter) shoes.

I sympathise a bit as the weather at this time of year is always a bit odd for clothing and I never know what to wear.

I really liked a lot of the long skirts and knitted dresses that Kate wore last year with boots - maybe we'll see some new things as the weather changes.

gluenotsoup · 19/09/2023 09:47

I like that look actually, the T-shirt gives a neater line, 2 lots of lapels can look messy. The shoes were fine, not particularly high and a chunky heel. She does wear flats when on an active engagement, but the most strenuous part of the day was just a big step out of a plane.

Literal dressing there'd have been comparison with Diana splashed all over the media again losing the message.

Sophie in navy blue Roksanda. The dress is fine and I like her earrings, but is that a scrunchie in her hair?! I do think she could do more to give her look a bit more polish. Though perhaps she doesn't care, which is also okay!

I wouldn’t be too worried about a navy scrunchie, it’s Prinsjedag in the Netherlands today and Max decided to dig into Margo Ledbetter’s wardrobe for the event. It’s quite a look! Princess Alexia also attended along with her older sister, they both look lovely (though no hat on Alexia? The Princess of Orange borrowed one of her Mum’s).

Sophie is a bit wrinkly there - don't they have any irons in the palace??

That's quite the lewk on Max. I'd like to see Alexia's dress from the front. Amalia's is very tasteful, if a bit mature for a 20yo.

MsMarch · 19/09/2023 14:24

The thing about Sophie for me is that she is never quite as glossy and well groomed as other royals - British and other countries. She always strikes me as, I guess what she actually is - a middle aged, very wealthy woman who has an active and busy life, likes clothes and being well looked after but isn't particularly focused on the minutia of it because she's also supporting her children, has interests and hobbies and a job/volunteering (in this case, her royal duties) that she cares about a great deal. I've met loads of women like her in my life.

BirdiePlantaganet · 19/09/2023 14:48

That is indeed a scrunchie in Sophie’s hair 😂

I always think it looks like she does her own hair. Perhaps their budget doesn’t stretch to a hairdresser?

Eaumyword · 19/09/2023 14:59

Come on Soph, you only wear a scrunchie to bathe and Max - take off the tablecloth, we'll need it to serve tea 🙄
Honestly, what naughty royals today 😂

GrouchyKiwi · 19/09/2023 15:03

I must admit that I wear a scrunchie all the time as regular hairband get stuck in my hair, and scrunchies are less likely to give me headaches. I do feel very 90s.

It's probably OK as I'm not a public figure.

The clothes today are ... interesting. Max has possibly gone too far with that outfit.

LadyEloise1 · 19/09/2023 16:09

I think Max's outfit today should go in the Bold Tower along with the headgear worn by her and Alexia.
Smile

Maireas · 19/09/2023 16:27

Ok, Max - we love that you experiment with colour and pattern, and you're certainly not dull, but that coat may be a step too far.
That hot pink number is a dazzler!

I'm going to book my place in Bold Towers by saying that I actually like Max's outfit. It's quirky but it works for me!

Any style advice for William today?
