Kate looks really elegant. The clip on Sky News makes her look lovely.

KillingMeDeftly · 08/09/2023 14:30

She never looks bad and it's suited to a formal event I suppose, but the matching everything is a bit of a snooze and although the colour suits her it seems, as @hopeishere says, more a winter or autumnal choice.

ArcaneWireless · 08/09/2023 14:41

Quite Eau

Elegant sums it up very well. She looks very well put together.

If I were out and about I’d absolutely be screaming to wear a kaftan though.

Not quite as elegant (or royal) I’ll be bound but breezy enough.

I have a dress that colour and wore it to a late summer wedding because I loved it. (As long as I’m not hot and flush central because then my face goes the same colour). I also went for the same colour shoes and bag. And hat. I thought it looked ok.

I don’t think it matters when you wear certain colours.

She looks polished and elegant and that is doing the job just fine.

She doesn’t look as though she is flaking heat wise so I wonder if the material is maybe not as heavy as it looks? Or cool/wicking underpinnings perhaps?

DisforDarkChocolate · 08/09/2023 14:45

It's a lovely colour and being on the purple range fits in with the event as it's a later stage mourning colour.

However, it's so bloody dull. She looks radiant though. I'd kill for her hair and ability to care enough about exercise to do it.

What's the snarky caption? I can't read it.

It says they put on a united front despite rumours they live apart and only see each other by appointment.

Coatdress! Perhaps it isn't as warm in Wales as it is in other parts of the country.

It's blooming sweltering

Tiara ID please and thank you 😄

Love the colour on Kate today, jewell tones always look fab on her. But Jesus I am so over the fecking coat dresses as I melt at my desk here in London.

ArcaneWireless · 08/09/2023 15:56

I could be wrong goosey as it is sidey on but is it the grand duchess Vladimir tiara?

As @ArcaneWireless says, that the Vladimir tiara on the pearl setting (rather than the emeralds).

ArcaneWireless · 08/09/2023 16:07

😍pearl setting😍 😊

MotherofPearl · 08/09/2023 16:08

I think Kate looks wonderful today - elegant simplicity - and we know that colour is perfect for her.

I agree that both the colour and fabric have autumnal vibes but I guess it's tricky planning for events in September. It can be quite early autumnal with a slight nip in the air, or it can be like it is now - boiling. I think even for an Indian summer though, this is beyond what one could reasonably plan for in September, so she probably just felt she had to stick to what had been planned?

Grin

On a side note Arcane, can I just say how much I love the word underpinnings, as used in your post.

MsMarch · 08/09/2023 16:17

I am honestly starting to worry that Kate mostly avoids anyone seeing her arms.

That colour is lovely and she looks lovely. But agree, doesn't suit the weather

ArcaneWireless · 08/09/2023 16:22

It is a lovely word that I feel is underused - although not by me! I use it a lot.

Sorts out all matter of garments in the one word.

I wonder though if they wear something under their ‘public outfits’ to stop them getting drippy.

We used to be canny what we wore under uniforms as you could properly melt in those. And slate grey tights in winter, stockings in summer. Thankfully overseas dress allowed bare legs. Perfect.

With all the sports technology fabrics and stuff these days, it might be easier to keep cool - even if you were trussed up.

ArcaneWireless · 08/09/2023 16:27

Today I completely understand covered arms as she is going to a Kirk service.

It may be different in various places of worship, but bare arms are frowned upon up here and certainly are in a lot of places overseas.

I don’t think she will have anything to worry about re her arms. She looks toned (as does Meghan - did ye see her arms at Beyonce? - fabulous!) so I’m guessing the outfit today took into account the Kirk service.

Just a thought.

No, I mean the Leti picture.

Kate has fantastic arms, well toned. If I had those kind of arms I wouldn't want to cover them! You're probably right about the church service, @ArcaneWireless . Gorgeous colour. She probably planned it before the heat wave, though!

We see her arms a lot, particularly in evening wear. Also in casual wear, and short sleeved summer dresses.

Aye - I think pearl is probably on the money with the outfit planning.

This time of year must be fairly tricky to plan for.

I certainly wasn’t expecting it. Not this warm anyway.. but crikey am I glad I am not working today.

Spot on, it is the Vladimir!

I think Disfordarkchocolate made a good point too re the late mourning colour.

It could be all sorts of reasons but a frilly summery frivolous frock on the anniversary of the late Queen’s death wouldn’t have been planned at all I don’t think.

DuchessOfPort · 08/09/2023 19:16

I think also the colour of Kate’s dress is a nod to half mourning perhaps. She could have gone with a paler purple or something for very hot weather.

I wonder how far in advance they plan the clothes - it does suit her but definitely autumnal.

Papergirl1968 · 08/09/2023 20:08

Camilla looks more summery and casual attending church in Balmoral.
Leti and Felipe at disengagement too, and Sophie attending a horse show.

They're not in mourning though. I think it's more likely that they thought the weather would be more autumnal today. It's the same dress she wore for the Christmas concert, though it looked darker today in the sunshine.
