What make up do you wear on a daily basis if any? And how do you find the time/inclination to put it on?

Hi all, I have decided that I am in dire need of a make over, I am 42 years old and only ever wear make up when I am out for an evening and even then its a bit sparce, a bit of mascara and lippy.

I admire people who are not as lazy as me and make up every day, how can I motivate myself to get up that little bit earlier?

I have a fair colouring and blonde hair " whats hot and what not" for one such as I.

I don't wear makeup every day

but when I do it is usually motivated by catching sight of myself in the mirror looking greyer and more haggard than usual.

ladytophamhatt · 28/02/2008 14:13

most days I wear light reflecting eye concealer stuff to cover my ever darkening bags, mascara, eye liner, a tiny bit of foundation, creme blush, and sometimes a bit of eye shadow.

althought that list seems quite alot it actually look squite minimal, I usuually have 1 or 2 day a week were I dont wear any though (today being one of those days)

woodenchair · 28/02/2008 14:14

eye liner, mascara and more recently blusher, takes about 3 minutes. I've been surprised how much better I look with a bit of blusher on tbh

if you are fair would you consider getting your eye lashed tinted?

fishie · 28/02/2008 14:15

i always wear makeup. didn't use to but now have passed mid thirties it is neccessary. my skin is ok so just a bit of mineral powder foundation, blusher eyeliner and mascara. sometimes a bit of lip stain or glossy balm.

maybe some nice bright eyeshadow to perk you up? purple or grey? mac stuff is good, as is urban decay although some of it a bit sparkly.

cyanarasamba · 28/02/2008 14:16

I wear a little foundation/concealer, mascara, blusher and lip gloss. This takes around 2 minutes, we are not talking great precision here.

My new years resolution was to put on make-up and give my hair the one-over with the straightners every morning and so far I'm still going.

A bit like MrsB, I find catching sight of myself in a mirror in a shop and thinking hmm not too bad to be a great motivator to keep going. Especially if feeling harrassed, it's nice to know the outside looks reasonable.

Tutter · 28/02/2008 14:16

tinted moisturiser, undereye concelealer and mascara (over curled lashes)

i have a 2yo and a 7mo so only have time for this

prior to ds2's arrival i stretched to blusher and eyeliner

Maveta · 28/02/2008 14:18

I wear light foundation or tinted moisturiser and mascara about 90% of the time. Sometimes I wear a bit of blush (but rarely). It only takes 1 very quick minute right after I´ve brushed my teeth.

The inclination comes from looking at the before and after effect in the mirror. I find it makes me feel more ready to take on the day.

Elphaba · 28/02/2008 14:19

Foundation
Eye shadow
Mascara
Blusher
Lipstick or gloss

Where do I find the time or inclination? Well it takes about 2 minutes to put it on and I'd look a dog if I didn't

Tinker · 28/02/2008 14:21

Motivation is seeing myself without it.

Foundation, powder, eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara, lipstick. Takes 5 mins?

Joash · 28/02/2008 14:22

Foundation & bit of gloss - 2 mins to put on & ditto on the dog thing

flowerybeanbag · 28/02/2008 14:22

Every day I don't if staying at home. If I'm going out anywhere, concealer, foundation (mineral), a swoosh of bronzing powder, bit of cream eyeshadow, mascara (after eyelash curlers) then tinted lip balm.

ConnorTraceptive · 28/02/2008 14:24

A little foundation/concealer, curl eye lashes and put on mascara, cream blusher. It really only takes about five minutes.

It's just habit now, but in the past it was more to do with huge self image ishoos.

NomDePlume · 28/02/2008 14:25

Erm, very little.

Most days I wear a bit of carmex lipbalm but if I'm feeling a bit eurgh then I'll add a tiny bit of eyeliner to make me look awake.

ladytophamhat, whats this light reflecting concealer stuff/how do you apply? and where can I get some? I am sure it would improve my general appearence.

For those who wear foundation and eye shadow, how do you stop it from sitting in ones wrinkles laughter lines?

I am interested in a tinted moisturiser, maveta what brand do you use?

choccypig · 28/02/2008 14:31

Nothing..well moisturiser is all. So plenty of time to put it on.

choccypig · 28/02/2008 14:33

I've read the post properly now. So can make a more helpful remark.
I do find that tinted lip balm makes me feel a bit smarter, so I keep one in the car.

Maveta · 28/02/2008 14:33

hmm.. well at the moment I don't, I'm using Rimmel mousse foundation which I'm finding really light but good coverage.

In the summer I used Nivea tinted moisturiser and it was fine, I'm pretty sure it all slipped off my face by the end of the day but maybe that's normal in summer heat? If anyone has a posher/better one to suggest I'd be interested too!

BettySpaghetti · 28/02/2008 14:35

Tinted moisturiser
Mascara
sometimes eyeliner (if I have the time and/or feel I need it)

Takes 2 mins and makes me feel a little more presentable than if I went sans make-up

bubbleandsqueak · 28/02/2008 14:35

I must get motivated
I must get motivated
I must get motivated
I must get motivated

My mantra for the next few days, will try and get to the shops next week and pick up some of your reccomendations.

As to colours etc can anyone reccomend a website to give me a little bit of help?

I wear the basics every day; I can do it in almost no time in between teeth and hair brushing.

Top tip: keep everything simple and light so rushed application doesn't matter.

Base: Number 7 Intelligent Colour - it changes its tone to suit your skin, is light and you won't need powder. Comes in three main shades; I use Light and it's fab.

Mascara - Ruby and Millie black - doesn't smudge.

Lippie - the colour that's meant to suit you best is your own lips' deepest shade IYSWIM. Bite your lips a bit and look at what type of pink they go. Try to get a similar shade in a light, moisturising formula. Clinique do some gorgeous ones.

Eyeshadow - I rarely wear but if you're keen you can get special bases to go on the lid to stop them creasing. i think Benefit do one.

Blusher - Bourgeois Rose Brun is meant to suit everyone on earth. i don't use blusher but it does look a lovely colour.

Motivation - working with glam colleagues and wanting to look halfway decent!
