What make up do you wear on a daily basis if any? And how do you find the time/inclination to put it on?

Hi all, I have decided that I am in dire need of a make over, I am 42 years old and only ever wear make up when I am out for an evening and even then its a bit sparce, a bit of mascara and lippy.

I admire people who are not as lazy as me and make up every day, how can I motivate myself to get up that little bit earlier?

I have a fair colouring and blonde hair " whats hot and what not" for one such as I.

I always wear very red lipstick and nothing else.

Got to be very red or it doesn't work with the rest of my face bare.

I probably look like a 1940's transvestite. But it cheers me up no end.

Of course it cheers you up! I've never met a glum 1940's tranvestite.

I wear Boots Protect and Perfect, tinted moisturiser, eye liner, shadow and lippie. Recently I've reverted to using mascara again as I've finally found one which doesn't irritate my eyes.

I must admit, I just moisturise if I'm slobbing around the house.

bubbleandsqueak · 28/02/2008 15:09

I am a WAHM, I have to do the school run but quite often spend the day at home getting on with bits. Would you/do you still make up for the school run?

motherinferior · 28/02/2008 15:11

No, I don't, not just for the school run. That way madness lies

pagwatch · 28/02/2008 15:12

bubble
surely it is all about how you feel.
I wear make up every day. My friend goes to pick up bare faced with hair in ponytail some days and glammed up on others.

What difference does it make?

WaynettaSlob · 28/02/2008 15:12

I wear make up everyday - I put it on in the morning after I've brushed my teeth, while I'm waiting for my deodorant to dry.
Takes all of about 90 seconds to slap onfoundation, abit or eleline and some lip gloss.

ladytophamhatt · 28/02/2008 15:14

Bubbleand squek, my light reflective stuff is from virgin vie, was about £14 I think and it realy does make a difference.

hang on will find out the name of it.

RedJools · 28/02/2008 15:16

I never wear make-up, unless I'm going out somewhere special (rare!) I did consider doing what you are doing and making more of an effort, but then I reckoned that people are now used to seing me au naturel, so if they see with with make up they say "Oh, you look really nice!", and I feel good. If I wore make up all the time, on the odd day that I know I would sleep in late/ not have time, then everyone would be thinking "cor- she looks rough today!" So I decided to keep it the way it is- rather be normal and occasionally gorgeous, than normal and occasionally rough!!

ladytophamhatt · 28/02/2008 15:21

here it is bubble

"A good nights sleep in a pen" and i agree!!

bubbleandsqueak · 28/02/2008 15:22

pagwatch, the difference is now I am beginning to feel and look my age. I am having a crisis of confidence and need to make some changes in my life that will make me feel better and I think make up is a start.

I have been very happy to be bare faced up until now, but for me now is the time to spend a little more time on my apprearence.

If I'm going anywhere or seeing anyone, I put on tinted moisturiser, under eye concealer (touche eclat but the Avon one is quite good as well for a cheapy), mascara and tinted lip balm. I just keep it in the bathroom cabinet so I can do it in 2 mins after I have cleaned my teeth. (Looking at my bare face in the mirror whilst teeth cleaning is enough motivation to do it)

robin3 · 28/02/2008 15:28

At 38 I need makeup I think.

Light liquid foundation - evens skin tone (30 secs)
Cover stick - covers any outstanding blemishes (2 secs)
Bronzer - applied with big brush immediately turns you from blue to healthy glow (2 secs)
Eyelash curlers - (30 secs)
Mascara - (30 secs)
Neutral lipstick - (2 secs)

Total time less than 2 mins.

Hair...now that's another story!

pagwatch · 28/02/2008 15:28

Then its ok to add a little extra to your routine to make you feel better.
I wasn't being arguementative. I wondered why it mattered what other people do?

I wear make up every day because i have poor skin and it makes me feel less self-concious. I do get the occasional sniffy comment from other mums in a wafty "oh gosh I never have the time to make the effort" kind of way but I know how I feel so I don't really care.
I am in my 40's too and you do need to change a little i think. Morning light is particularly unforgiving .
A good beautician I know recommended getting eye brows re-shaped, dying eye lashes and YSL touche eclat under the eyes.
They all helped

My2Weegirls · 28/02/2008 15:33

a few weeks ago my 3yr dd1 asked 'mummy do you EVER wear make-up'.

GetOrfMoiLand · 28/02/2008 15:39

I wear the basics every day, is just part of my morning routine. I do tend to wear less in the summer though.

I do not have an onerous cleanse/tone routine, just wash my face in the shower with shampoo. Then put on moistriser, clean teeth, then put on the following (takes 5 mins). I actually like putting make up on, it's doing my hair every morning that is a chore. But I do them nboth because I like to look my best, also it's like an armour with which to face the day

lou33 · 28/02/2008 15:40

concealer, mascara, liquid eyeliner on the top lid and lippy

takes 10 mins

GetOrfMoiLand · 28/02/2008 15:41

Ooh forgot to list the routine - foundation, powder, cream blusg, eyeshadow, liquid eyeliner, mascara. No lipstick, strangely, stick with lip balm or sheer gloss.

DualCycloneCod · 28/02/2008 15:44

every day i wear

founation
blusher
bronzer
eyeliner
eyeshadow
wyebrow pencil
mascara

amen

BeauLocks · 28/02/2008 15:45

trollope

I wear:

tinted moisturiser
eye liner
mascara
lippy

GetOrfMoiLand · 28/02/2008 15:49

I am tempted to trial onebat's red lippy and no else.

However I feel I will look like a 40's transvestite as I am 6 foot tall and rather broad of shoulder.
