without a white cast, so preferably invisible finish. Chemical sunscreens are useless for me as I have melasma and they don't prevent it.

I had been using one from Amazon but they have just discontinued it 😩

Thank you for the link to the other thread. It seems that lots of sunscreens are now combined physical and chemical 😩

Altruist?

bryceQ · 10/08/2023 20:40

Dr Sam is expensive but excellent

This gives you £5 off I think. I have a monthly subscription

WarriorN · 11/08/2023 06:41

It's good but I found it very drying.

mumprocrastinating · 11/08/2023 06:52

Laroche Posay Anthelios mineral tinted sunscreen. It just sinks in and is invisible.

Stumpedasatree · 11/08/2023 10:20

@mumprocrastinating im sure I tried that before and didn’t get on with it as was very heavily tinted and didn’t sink in for me - but I will give it another go!

It's good but I found it very drying.

But I do adore the Sam bunting night time serum. I have that on subscription and use about x4 times a week.

It helps my skin wear the altruist sun cream.

My skin seems to do better with the normal factor 50 in the summer and the fluid in the autumn and winter.

Stumpedasatree · 11/08/2023 12:45

@WarriorN i used to use altruist all the time until I started burning with it on so stopped. It’s not a physical SS either unfortunately. Chemical sunscreens don’t prevent my melasma from getting worse in the sun unfortunately.

I bought the Australian gold one after seeing it recommended in the other thread. I can't use chemical sunscreens either. This one's great, it's not white at all.

Heliocare is beautiful!

I was on the hunt for a melasma-friendly holy grail SPF earlier in the year. I'm still looking... I've not found any non-tinted that don't leave the cast. Most tinted ones come out way too dark/orange for pasty me.

Colorescience do a tinted one that is actually pale - but not cheap! Paula's Choice Resist Super light daily wrinkle defense is also a decent colour, but only SPF30.

I tend to wear powder on top of sunscreen anyway to avoid the shine, so depending on how much I'm going to be out in the sun etc, I sometimes use a cheaper white one and then use coloured powder to cancel out the cast. Mineral foundations like Bare Minerals/Lily Lolo are zinc-based anyways so actually are SPF.

I layered various combinations of all of these, plus a straight up zinc stick, on my melasma when in the sun on holiday though, (AND wore a cap) and it still got worse... Heat seems to affect it as well as sun exposure, it's a nightmare!

Lellochip · 11/08/2023 13:20

While you're hunting, I do recommend looking on ebay though, for the pricier options - there's quite a few sellers who sell samples so at least you're not forking out full price to find you hate it

Heliocare is beautiful!

Another vote for Heliocare!

Dr Dray says tinted of anything is best; I do also use bare minerals powers as my 'foundation' over what ever sunscreen I'm wearing.

She does mention the altruist red prone skin one in here but I tried it once and it's v dark and thick

WarriorN · 11/08/2023 20:08

@Lellochip hello are mineral is paler than most.
