Clinique Super City Block -discontinued.

I have used Super City block for years, I see it’s now discontinued and replaced with Superdefence City Block 50 -which is a mineral and chemical sunscreen. The old one was just mineral. Has anyone who also used Super City Block tried this new one? I’m wondering how they compare.
TIA.

I was super loyal to Super City Block... until I tried this (recommended somewhere)

I have very fair skin and this looks exactly like the Clinique on me, stays on all day and has much nicer ingredients.

I have been using City Block for years (maybe 20? Is that an exaggeration?) no, I remember the age I was when I bought it the very first time as I was in my 2nd year at uni…27 years ago! That explanation makes sense, although I do wish I had given more thought to the ingredients in my products over the years. I’m still guilty of buying first questioning later, I must get better at that -I’m vegetarian fgs!

Grimbelina ooh that does sound good then & not a bad price. I will see if I can test that somewhere near me before I buy. Thanks.

Getting really desperate now! I emailed Australian gold but they don’t sell testers & I can’t find where I can try it. I’m still scouring the internet

Reporting back as promised. I do like the Elizabeth Arden quite a lot so far, though not sure if it’ll be enough to justify the cost long-term. It’s a bit pinker than the old Clinique and feels oilier going on (I know the Clinique was oil free). Fortunately though it doesn’t make my face feel oily beyond that initial application - but I don’t have especially oily skin - it might be a problem for some. My skin broke out with the new Clinique but that hasn’t happened with the EA.

I did sit in the sun for quite a while a couple of days ago and seems fine in that respect, though haven’t tested it thoroughly. Clinique got me through height of summer Rome and Pompeii and I never burnt and never reapplied in the day!

The question will be how long the tube lasts. I may have to switch to the Liz Earle spf 25 for winter.

Yourearealboy · 25/05/2023 23:07

I really can’t afford the EA one, glad it seems to be working for you, changing for a cheaper option over winter is a good plan.

I also never reapplied Clinique and never got burnt in full summer, whereas now I’m pink after a 20 min walk to the local shops or 40 mins mowing the grass. My cheeks are continually getting pink now so I’m not happy. I might just have to bite the bullet and buy another one untested and hope for the best.

Hi @Yourearealboy what’s your limit for budget? A friend of mine was raving at the weekend about Trinny London BFF Spf cream. It’s only factor 30 and still expensive (less than the Elizabeth Arden though) but she says it’s great. I’ll probably try it when I run out of the EA.

Yourearealboy · 06/06/2023 07:32

I think city block was around £23 so that is a tad pricey tbh.

La Roche posay anthelios is a fantastic face sun block, not at all greasy, dries Mat, very effective as a sunscreen, does not make eyes water, and comes in a tiny suitable for fair skin.

Delphigirl · 06/06/2023 07:42

Tint

TheOGCCL · 06/06/2023 08:46

Imo the Trinny one, though nice, is a make up product. It’s a tinted moisturiser. Not only would you probably not want to apply as much as you need, it’s also only 30 SPF. If you were putting enough on, you’d go through the tube very fast and it’s expensive. When choosing an SPF it has to be something you are happy to repurchase every couple of months so pick a price point right for you.

NeedWineNow · 06/06/2023 09:51

@Delphigirl Would you say that you can use the La Roche Posay in the same way as the City Block? I used the CB after cleansing and moisturizing as a primer and protector before I put foundation on and I'm looking for something similar.

Delphigirl · 06/06/2023 09:54

Yes and I think it is a really good primer. It is also really good value so I would give it a go and see what you think. Make sure you shake the bottle and don't be too concerned that it is quite a thin lotion rather than a cream - goes on really nicely with no cast at all and sinks in to give a really good non greasy primer-like finish.

Yourearealboy · 06/06/2023 13:52

I tried this one, I got quite a tanned face just reading a book for an hour which surprised me. I had been using a strong vitamin C serum so wondered if that was a factor.
I saw a YouTube video of someone putting the tinted one on & they said there was pilling, do you not find that?

No that’s not the one, it’s the invisible fluid I use, looks like this

I don’t get pilling, I can’t stand pilling!

NeedWineNow · 06/06/2023 19:10

@Delphigirl That's excellent, really good to know. I will give it a go.
