I love this HC tracksuit. Love it.

Not bragging, just to state, I'm same build as the model, but probably a bit shorter, 5ft 6. Also, same colouring skin/hair (if that helps, I know certain colours work better, although I've never had the colours things done on me.)

However, I've just turned 40 and a mum of 3, and I think I need to accept with dignity, that my days of chin to ankle skin tight clothing with 3 inch metallic gold slogans the entire length of the leg, are behind me. Or they certainly are if I want teen DS to leave the house with me.

What's an alternative that's got this look to it, without being too young? And before anyone shouts me down, yes yes, you can of course wear what you like at any age... but moving past that, can anyone recommend a more age appropriate version?

Thanks in advance x

It's a 1/4 zip baselayer and leggings. Any of the outdoorsy shops should have loads of them, by multiple different brands. Try Cotswold Outdoor, Snow+rock, Go Outdoors, Outside.co.uk, maybe decathlon. Loads to choose from.

Kitcaterpillar · 09/08/2023 08:50

This board is mad. When someone calls out the suggestion of a Little Women prairie dress for £600 to a poster who wants a £50 out-out dress as stupid, they get an absolute #bekind pile on. But someone asks for some trackie suggestions and it's open season?

Anyway - Gymshark, Sweaty Betty, Lulu, Adanola and Varley are the active brands of choice round here. But I think outdoor brands - Patagonia, Fjallraven, North Face - are always good for a half zip.

She looks like she's in packaging, like a packet of biscuits.

😆

Agree with the illusion of curves point. For athletic figures, activewear is great for showing off what little curves we’ve got 😁

Maybe if I had big tits and a Kim K arse I’d wear ‘normal’ clothes more often.

WildCherryBlossom · 09/08/2023 08:20

Ooh this is really nice, do you know how Gymshark's sizing comes out?

Totalwasteofpaper · 09/08/2023 08:55

SameOldTed · 09/08/2023 05:06

I think it reflects current style which is a swing back to slightly "conspicuous consumption".

Amplified by lockdown, there has been a strong move to "casualisation" ie no heels, athleisure wear in public, tracksuits as everyday gear.

Body con dresses and lots of skin and heels VERY out. We're not going "out-out"! 1

However, there's now a swing to be a bit more "I earn money, people. But I'm still keeping it comfortable." The term is quiet luxury.

I'd interpret this in a "quiet luxury" way (see gwyneth paltrow at her ski accident trial, or meghan markle when she's at home. Or Lucia Loi (Manchester pr guru with first class degree. used to be involved with Marcus Rashford).

Neutral comfy casual covering base but dont spare the bling.

So I'd go for a plain black fitted outfit, with some gold jewellery to contrast. Decathlon do some nice plain gear, and then get some gold accents.

This isnt quiet...

It's screaming

My poor eyeballs.

Just No OP.

I know, quite a few twatty posts eh! The message that seems to have been entirely lost, is that I'd like something like this, without the bling.

Yes, I'm aware it's a base layer set. And technically equestrian (let's not pretend 99% of the people wearing HC have even sat on a horse)

I'm at home with 3dc. I get covered in glitter, playdoh, glue, baking, gardening stuff. I live in yoga leggings and oversized off the shoulder things. Comfy. Not "neat" looking...I can't think of a better word, my clothes look more floppy and dishevelled, where as the HC looks neat and tidy.

No one appears to have posted actual suggestions which is what I was hoping for. Eg, I know Emporio Armani do quite tight fitted tracksuits. But I don't want a tracksuit with "ArrrrrMarrrrrNeeeee" emblazoned all over it. It's less in your face than the HC, but still too logo happy. I'll have a look at Lulu Lemon, but the world and it's dog seemed to wear it ten years ago, maybe it's been refreshed.

Op where do you get your oversized, off the shoulder tops from?

WildCherryBlossom · 09/08/2023 08:58

@Hereforthedramaz Gymshark is pretty much true to size. The fabrics are usually lovely and soft and last very well. I don't have this particular top though.

No

Surely that should be ‘neigh’?

Thank you! I think I'm going to try the plum version

Abfab63 · 09/08/2023 09:02

Agree with pp - lulu lemon / sweaty Betty does similar without the bling. It's good quality & a nice fit and probs 1/2 the price of HC.

thehoundschicken · 09/08/2023 09:03

Gymking do some nice sets, looks very similar and it's just active wear 😊 I've got a nice set from Covid I still wear

Dreemhouse · 09/08/2023 09:08

Good lord, women can be so bitchy. The Gymshark set a PP posted looks great, I’m 39 and would definitely wear it. The branding is subtle. I think you could get a similar look from lululemon, sweaty Betty, Tala. Chances are if you have a figure like the model, then you’ve worked hard for it so show it off.

Beetleback · 09/08/2023 09:22

ChristmasCrumpet · 09/08/2023 08:40

Yes, I didn't realise some people would be so rigid in their interpretation.

The "fit" is what I'm after, not the particularly thin fabric, or something only labelled a base layer.

A very fitted tracksuit I guess.

I’m a bit confused about what you’re after.

A base layer like this is most similar to standard activewear leggings/Lycra top. There’s plenty of such stuff around - previous recommendations for Sweaty Betty, Lululemon, Gymshark should have you covered. Basic activewear.

But you’re saying you want a fitted tracksuit - that’s somewhat different (and not what that base layer you’re looking at is). I don’t think it’s possible to get that ultra-sleek look from a tracksuit.

I know. Some people just like to add their view to everything.

But we do have their opinions on how they don't like the outfit I don't want to buy. Which is super helpful.

Anyhooo....

I didn't think of Gymshark before this thread as I always considered them really branded. Might have a browse on there. Although I think teen DS has a Gymshark top, so this may well forbid his elderly and uncool mother from wearing that too Grin

OP posts:
Itsnotrightbutitsok · 09/08/2023 09:38

Why not just buy it and see how it fits?

I wouldn’t think anything of a 40+ year old wearing that.
I would think they were about to go to the gym but it doesn’t matter if you’re not.

If it looks good on you then don’t care what anyone else thinks (most will just be jealous that they couldn’t pull it off).

QueefQueen80s · 09/08/2023 09:39

I think it looks ace, like you say, if it didn't have the gold branding. Without the lettering it just looks like well fitted sportswear, even this looks a bit like it

QueefQueen80s · 09/08/2023 09:40

And age has nothing to do with the lettering one, any age would look naff! Hope you find something

HorribleNecktie · 09/08/2023 09:41

I think the Gymshark one looks cool. Kinda like a ninja.

travelogue · 09/08/2023 09:58

Age doesn't stop Kim Kardashian wearing head to toe skin tight clothing. Wear what you want - I'm 50 and I wish I'd been less uptight when I actually had a great figure! Definitely try Lulu it's good quality (DD wears it not me!!) And talking of KK Skims has very similar top/bottoms with no lettering / plain black.

MetalFences · 09/08/2023 10:05

Busubaba · 08/08/2023 23:46

Good grief!

You will only be able to get away with wearing that hideous outfit if you change your name to Chardonnay, move to Essex and start dating a non premier league football player.

Fuck me!

Exactly this! And the obsession with those drapey massive bin bag looking clothes!
