Autumn wishlist.....

Ventureintheslipstream · 05/08/2023 17:35

I know some will think it's too early....but I live for autumn so this unseasonal weather brings me great joy.

I've just ordered some oxblood chelsea boots from vinted (new in box) for a steal.

Got my eye on lots in Arket and Toast already but not sure if I dare as am due a baby in October and no idea how much this pregnancy will impact my dress size... but equally desperate to have some non- maternity clothes to look forward to!

Anyone got any good wishlist ideas already?

I was in h and m today and was definitely getting an autumn vibe from their non sale section.

I would like a full length puffa. My old one has died a death and I'm debating whether to invest or buy a cheaper one.
I'm thinking when I'm stood in the side of a sports field for most of the weekend it might be better to invest in something that will keep me warm and dry.

I would also like some more cashmere slouchy jumpers and cashmere socks.

I spend a lot of time at the side of sports pitches or walking the poodle and I got this:

www.asos.com/prd/202885122?acquisitionsource=pasteboard

It is also waterproof!

I finally cracked (again) and have ordered three denim maxi skirts from ASOS to pick from, plus a lovely Fair Isle cardigan and an orange mock croc Furla bag which caught my eye at Rokit Vintage.

I haven't had a Furla bag before but the leather looks fab - I remember a friend having a green one and the quality was lovely, so I'm excited 😀

I don’t need anything but I think I want:

  • Charcoal grey or dark brown or tweedy long/oversized coat - slouchy and relaxed will look for this secondhand as want a good wool/cashmere mix
  • Chunky chestnut/reddy-brown boots - have a specific shade in mind that I can’t find anywhere
  • Some dark midi skirts to wear with chunky boots and jumpers
  • Silky/slip dress to wear with a cashmere jumper
  • This Frida Rome bag in black

These are the sort of things I’m thinking of.

I still haven’t seen the Dragons Den! I’ve got another bag from them and it’s lovely so very tempted to get this one.

It’s arriving tomorrow so will report back. I have a couple of similar skirts from ASOS that I’ve been really pleased with.

Ah let us know how it is! Fingers crossed it’s nice on🤞

milkydress, you will enjoy a good navy scarf. I bought one a few years ago (it's not pure cashmere, but a mix) and it's a good winter weight, not too heavy or light. It manages to make an outfit look classic and elegant, even a jean jacket.

I'm not a fan of humungous scarves; they just tend to get in the way of everything.

Following this thread as I need new clothes for the office (quite cool and young, while I am late 40s) and life in general.

I'm 5'6" and a size 12 but don't have a waist - I'm straight up and down. Today I tried on every pair of wide leg trousers in London and I looked bloody awful in every single one.

How can a middle aged woman with no waist look up to date on the trouser front this season without looking enormous?

theatrical · 30/08/2023 23:52

I might treat myself to a blue satin bag (courtesy of my aunt who has offered to buy it for my birthday). It's from Anthropologie.

ErnestCelendine · 31/08/2023 07:16

I'd like some oxblood Chelsea boots or DMs, some comfy joggers and birkie mules for wfh, some plain cashmere/merino jumpers and uniqlo cord cross body bag - I love the burgundy non-cord one I got this summer.

Priority is the boots as mine from last year have holes!

BangingOn · 31/08/2023 17:09

@Wiennetta the skirt arrived today and it’s a keeper, thanks very much for the recommendation. I ordered two sizes and whilst there was nothing between them in terms of fit due to the stretchy fabric, one skirt did have the lining slightly longer than the outer layer. I’ve had this before with that style of skirt from ASOS so kept the one without the fault.

TizerorFizz · 31/08/2023 20:22

@Perfectlystill So maybe these trousers are not for you? Plenty are fitted over the hips and whether you have a waist or not doesn’t really matter. You have a bum and that matters more! I would not go for any pleats. Keep the front smooth. Use layers over. Try shoes with heels to elongate your legs. I would look at cheaper brands snd try on st home. M&S have lots. Arket and &OtjerStories too.

Been lurking on this thread.

Can I ask what people wear on their feet for workwear in autumn winter?

I like to wear trouser suits with tapered trousers like the Hobbs Suki- I have this in 3 colours: https://www.hobbs.com/product/suki-jacket/0122-4156-9845L00-COBALT-BLUE.html

In the summer I wear sandals or pointed flats but in winter my ankles get cold. I feel boots don't work with the style of suit? I can't really wear heels anymore for work.

There are a lot of chunky loafers around but I feel like because I am size 16 with big feet, they make me look even bigger Blush

Any suggestions would be great!

BangingOn · 01/09/2023 14:16

@thevegetablesoup i also struggle with footwear for trousers and this is one of the reasons I’ve stopped wearing them to work completely. I know that’s not very helpful but you’re not alone.

I am really tempted by knee high boots again (to be worn with the hem of my dress or skirt longer than the top of the boot so no gap between as that’s one of my pet hates!) after what feels like years of ankle boots. The only pair that I can find that I really like are £500+ which are well out of budget.

Knee high boots must be due a come back soon, surely?

lindyloo57 · 01/09/2023 17:34

I've just treated myself to a pair of sam Eldeman black suede slingbacks, I had some birthday money,, they are so comfy with a flat heel, I have never spent so much on a pair of shoes, boots yes shoes no, but am so sick of buying cheaper shoes and they always hurt my feet.

BangingOn · 01/09/2023 21:07

I love Sam Edelman shoes, every pair I’ve had have been so comfortable.

I really want some quality, short, not-wool, heavy, cotton jumpers to wear with high-waisted bottoms. Boxy is fine, or more fitted. Please let me know if you see any!

Me too!
