Waterproof mascara remover - need recommendations

I just cannot find anything that removes waterproof (or even normal) mascara

I dont wear make up very much so I dont have a big collection of removers and dont know where to start with how you choose

In the past Ive tried various brands of micellar water, all useless, cleansing cream Nivea, useless. Recently ordered Neals Yard eye make up remover, usesless

I still have big chunks of mascara on my eyelashes from yesterday,, my eyes are sore from wiping them.

I dont want a cleansing 'wash', I dont want something where I wash my face with water over a sink for example
I dont want something fragrance free
I dont want something that will dry out my eye area because Ive got menopausal skin
I want something with one wipe will wipe off the mascara without constant wiping

Styes, eye infections, irritation. Eye make up is a particularly bad one to leave on overnight as it can clog tear ducts and also irritate sensitive skin around the eye when e.g. it rubs against a pillow in the night.

Yes, point taken. So it needs to come off

Also about a month ago, I left it on, just couldnt get it off. We were on holiday actually abroad and the remover I took just would not budge this stuff, it might have been the mascara where it forms little tubes on your lashes, cant seem to find it now, must have left it somewhere

Anyway, day after day, after day I couldnt get it off but put more on and when I got home lots of my lashes came off as I was trying to get the stuff off

Im losing my hair at the moment due to a procedure I had, it should start growing back in around 6 months and I suspect my lashes are also being affected so Im quite mindful of that too.

You really really don't want a scented eye make up remover.

Get a scented foundation and other make up remover if you want a scent but around your eyes you really really don't want a whole lot of perfume. You actually don't want any!

When I put in the search bar on the Boots website "Scented eye make up remover" this is what I got:

Coconut oil and cheeky wipes make up remover pads. My skins never been so good since making the switch. Gets all make up off, the reusable pads are so much nicer than cotton wool

Tell us why you want a scented eye make up remover.

I just hate the smell of unfragranced products. I know that might sound odd but they all smell really bad to me, they do have a scent, almost like plastic and make me feel a bit ill

Ive tried so many over the years. I dont use unfragranced anything

So its not like I want scented, I dont want unfragranced.

I normally use this one suggested and find it brilliant

La Roche-Posay Respectissime Eye Make Up Remover for Sensitive Eyes 125ml

There is an Elf one that I might try though

Garnier micellar but it MUST be the oil version and not the original. I wear waterproof mascara every day and this works for me.

Everyone recommended Nivea on MN when I was hunting for a waterproof mascara remover (when my favourite one was discontinued) so I bought it. I think it's pretty average and wouldn't buy it again.

Garnier waterproof eye makeup remover 2in1 (purple one) on Amazon/ebay. I wouldn't bother with anything else!

hamsterchump · 05/08/2023 11:46

I use baby oil on a cotton wool pad, gets everything off and cheap.

weleasewoderick23 · 05/08/2023 11:49

Ouse this. It works brilliantly and lasts ages

Baby oil or Vaseline. I've tried all sorts over the years but always go back to Johnsons baby oil or Vaseline. Get the little round lip balm pot so you can get the aloe vera one if you want a scent.

midsomermurderess · 05/08/2023 11:52

Rumi. It's for thin/thinning lashes and stays well.

midsomermurderess · 05/08/2023 11:53

Oops, not remover.

Yes me too, never found anything that works as well as baby oil

Rayna37 · 05/08/2023 12:02

I've been using Boots Botanics eye makeup remover since the late 90's I think. Sure I had it as a student, and I'm rarely that loyal to anything. Through many packaging changes! I definitely recommend.

The inkey list oat balm cleanser.

Shouldisign · 05/08/2023 12:07

I only ever use Vaseline to remove waterproof mascara.

FrangipaniBlue · 05/08/2023 12:51

Another vote for baby oil

smokingcarriageonly · 05/08/2023 13:00

I use the Ordinary squalane cleanser which I think is unscented so no good for you OP, but when I run out I slap on some olive oil. It works brilliantly, is easy to remove with a damp flannel and smells fine to me.

roycroppersshopper · 05/08/2023 13:06

Maybe try a tubing mascara instead of waterproof. Tubing mascara comes off with warm water. Been a life changer for me. No more panda eyes.
