Did anyone else fall for this perfume review?

Got this email from Mumsnet SwearsBy, they mentioned this cheap but apparently gorgeous perfume.

£4 off Amazon, why not try it 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’ll tell you why not! I put the tiniest bit on my wrist to try it, two wrist scrubs and a bath soak later and the stench is still on me. DH walked in to the room and asked ‘Urgh what’s that smell?’ ‘What smell?’ Says I. ‘Smells like inside a Grandma’s handbag’

Yes it does DH, yes it does.

I had it in my basket ready to checkout! Have now deleted

It was never going to be good at that price

Anything advertised as smelling like baby powder is going to be vile, surely? 🤢

To be fair I wasn’t sure what to expect, but fell for the ‘clean fresh skin’ thinking it could be a good daytime option.

Morning update - 1 shower later, the smell is still on my wrists.

Well, perfume is subjective and as many of the cheap dupes are made from pure perfume oils not alcohol + water and then put in a fancy box with an even fancier price tag, they are probably by definition going to be long lasting. If you don't like a scent, I find it always seems to linger for what seems like days.

I don't have dupes from that company but I do have a lot from others. Some I buy blind, and obviously, some I don't like when they arrive.

That I don't like them doesn't mean other people's subjective reviews are wrong.

We could probably do without the ageist language as well really.

Now, this is what honesty looks like.
Other reviews on S&B like people saying something is amazing then giving others a code where they get paid. These threads started by people that ask for a recommendation and get 2 replies in 5 seconds saying almost the same thing about a fabulous new product or website, those I take with a bucket of salt.

Mine arrived yesterday. SO STRONG. Smells old and stale and sweet.
I had a friend over when it arrived so we both tried it. We then went out. My daughters came downstairs and texted me to ask why the kitchen smelt like a charity shop and could I hint to my friend that her perfume was grim 😆

I want to buy this now! Just to smell it!!

I'm old enough to be a GM and the inside of my handbag smells of leather. What is smelling like the inside of a GM's handbag? wee? cough drops?

Well the ad said people asked what it was so that wasn't a lie. They just left out the rest of the conversation.

To be fair to the perfume company, I also ordered a different one, Olympian Woman, from them, and it's quite nice. Not a new favourite, but fine for a handbag scent.

Oh dear, I just ordered it from Amazon. I'll see if I can cancel it. 😞

The inside of a grandmas handbag (I’m using my grandma here, even though I’m about to be one mine smells lovely of course 😉) smells like a mixture of all perfumes, hand creams, cosmetics, herbal remedies, polos and smelling salts that have ever been inside.
My Nan had one good leather bag that saw her through everything so the inside of that smelt like a right stale mix.

Just like the perfume.

How have so many ordered this.

Nothing about that review would persuade me to try that 'pong', if you PAID me £4.
However, I did buy Ormonde Jayne Montabaco because it reminded me so strongly of being snuggled next to my grandma's handbag while she had tea with friends (tobacco, suede, a bit of smoke and indolic florals: divine)

Bit of a different price point there @clowniform to put it mildly

It's almost as if 'inside of a grandma's handbag' could apply to a wide range of scents, to put it less obliquely.
