Which one stylish mumnetters? (If any..)

Hello :)

I am going to a wedding at the end of the month and I am rubbish at dressing myself. I have dresses I like but I don't know if they actually suit me. My figure is slim/athletic, small breasts (would prefer to wear a bra as post breastfeeding has left them a little worse for wear). Can you lovely ladies help me please.

I have three dresses I am considering but also open to something completely different if anyone has any suggestions. Budget up to £100.

Please let me know what you think :)

Thanks in advance

I'd go shopping personally. I don't think any of your 3 dresses are stand out - for a wedding a bit more glamour would be good. Something with short sleeves, fitted round the waist. Maybe a skirt on the bias ( swirls better!). Or sleeveless with a short jacket?

NatashaDancing · 01/08/2023 22:07

LivelyBlake · 01/08/2023 22:02

The sleeved one definitely

Is this one of those internet things where people see different things? If the sleeved dress is the left hand picture on the first post it's drab, washed out and looks as if it's seen better days.

Dressmebaby · 01/08/2023 22:14

@mnahmnah ooh I really like the yellow one, thank you :) off to find that.

@Whataretheodds I really couldn't wear that its far too stylish for me :) I showed my husband and he said it looked like gollum and now I can't unsee it.

Colours - I did an online quiz a while ago and it said autumnal/earty colours or neon colours. I usually stick to the autumnal/earty colours though as I don't really have to confidence for the neons, earty yellows looks quite nice on me though. I have olive skin, dark brown hair and blue eyes.

I think I need to go shopping too, I've told my husband he's got the kids on saturday so I will go and try some stuff on. Any particular shops i should look in?

I don’t like that Cos dress - it looks like the model is wrapped in a bed sheet to me!

The yellow Lipsy halter neck is nice and would suit your figure.

Dressmebaby · 01/08/2023 22:24

does any one have any experience with those stick on bras? do they stay on? I feel I need a bra to give me some shape but its quite limiting as to which dress i can get

You have a great figure. If I were you I would go for dressy trousers and a top. You could pull off coloured trousers really well. Or a simple dress like this one: https://www.reiss.com/style/st577720/793692#793692

PickAChew · 01/08/2023 22:30

The first one with the sleeves. It's a bit big on you around the upper body but the strappy and sleeveless ones both emphasise that they're too big for you. (dressmaker - I always have to adjust patterns to avoid this on myself)

Check out the Ghost sale (directly or on John Lewis website also )

They all look very casual to me, I’d wear them in the day to do a food shop, school run etc. I’d go more formal for a wedding, especially one in a castle. My go to dresses for weddings are from Ted Baker, Reiss, Karen Millen, All Saints. They would have good sales this time of year. You’ve got a cracking figure, I’d opt for something shorter, more fitted, more structured, more colourful if I were you.

Moveoverdarlin · 01/08/2023 22:51

That Reiss one is lovely.

VanGoghsDog · 01/08/2023 22:52

Dressmebaby · 01/08/2023 20:33

And another one

They're too casual, but this OK.

The other sleeveless one is a definite no (and I'm not sure it really fits you). The blue isn't too bad but a bit unstructured.

PackettInn · 01/08/2023 22:53

I think they're all a bit boring for a wedding. Sorry op! They look a bit square / teachery for a big event. How about a silk king drape dress or spaghetti strapped maxi?

Dressmebaby · 01/08/2023 23:00

@Howtosolveit Thanks for the suggestions, I think I would prefer to wear a dress though, then trousers and a top. Otherwise I've got two items to find 😂i think the dress is a bit plain though, sorry

@PickAChew yeah you are right they are too big, I brought the first two postpartum while breastfeeding so was bigger and with more boobage. the last one though is actually really tight on the top part.

@Whataretheodds i will check them out, thank you

@Moveoverdarlin thanks for the shop suggestions, will check them out on saturday

@PackettInn no need to apologise, i need all the help i can get :) off to google what a silk king drape dress is 😆

continentallentil · 01/08/2023 23:06

Last one is the most striking

Sleeved one is nice too

The other one too casual

have fun

LivelyBlake · 01/08/2023 23:07

If you like sparkles you could consider this one

That last one you posted is too much of an evening dress. The first three are a bit drab imho. Not very wedding-y

BitOutOfPractice · 01/08/2023 23:09

You posted another one while I was typing. The one you posted at 23:04 - too evening-y.

NatashaDancing · 01/08/2023 23:11

Dressmebaby · 01/08/2023 23:04

what do you ladies think of this? I love the sparkles!

https://www.next.co.uk/style/ls206627/p48602#p48602

It's all very subjective, but it's a big no from me. I don't like this type of super glam dress unless it's very high end.

The Reiss dress extremely dull.

Whataretheodds · 01/08/2023 23:11

1st not for a wedding unless it's black tie.
2nd one fine. Would need a jacket.

NatashaDancing · 01/08/2023 23:16

Dressmebaby · 01/08/2023 23:08

is red a big no no at a wedding? i quite like this

https://www.next.co.uk/style/ls358742/p63773#p63773

Red's fine for a wedding. So far as that style, it's another of these super glammed up but cheap dresses, which aren't my thing. It might be ok at a wedding, depending on the venue and the vibes of the wedding.

Verite1 · 01/08/2023 23:18

How about this. I tried on an earlier version last year in a different pattern and it hangs beautifully. I just couldn’t hide a bra with it at the back.
