This isn't doing much for me, is it?

This dress:

www.axparis.com/products/duck-egg-short-sleeve-belted-wrap-midi-dress

On me...

What's the problem? Is it too big/too small? Am I too short? Is it the sleeves? Is the neckline too high?

Loved the colour and had such high hopes!

I am sick to death of trying to dress this body. I'm a size 8/10 and just under 5ft 2.

Where am I going wrong?

I agree that the dress is too big and that you need a petite dress. I'm 5'2" and a size 8/10 and if I don't buy in a petite size I often get things altered to fit my frame. But I would only do that on an item that's good quality as it does cost to have things altered to fit.

I absolutely love the bronze coloured COS dress linked to earlier, I would imagine it hangs beautifully. But being a petite frame, I'm not sure it would really fit me properly, would have to try it on. Getting something taken up is one thing but once you get into having things lifted on the shoulder or putting darts in etc it gets expensive.

I can't wear wrap dresses at all, they never sit right on me and I always feel the threat of exposure when the parting opens!!

There are plenty of dresses to choose from at John Lewis by typing in ‘wedding guest dresses petite’, if that helps, OP. Next day delivery to Waitrose is available.
Whilst I can’t see your eye/hair colour, that of your nails and the colour you wore to a previous wedding suggest you prefer bolder colours.

OceanSounds123 · 02/08/2023 11:17

I like the style of the dress but the colour is a bit pale.Maybe size down

Eucalyptus22 · 02/08/2023 11:38

I'm not seeing the issue. It looks perfectly nice and exactly like the pic on the website - minus the creases and lighting.

headwear · 04/08/2023 12:16

Thank you for all the replies and suggestions.

I have ordered these, which will probably need altered, but fingers crossed for quick delivery!

First choice will be the mint/floral I think. And not sure how much I like yellow, but desperate times!

The mint green dress is lovely

How about Closet London dresses from ASOS? I find them a great fit at 5' 3".

headwear · 06/08/2023 16:42

Closet ones were either OOS in my size or too close to the bridesmaid colours. I actually had one in my basket before I found out the colour of the BM dresses.

I've received this from ASOS today. It's petite.

Any thoughts? I'm starting to panic in case the others don't arrive in time to be altered, or just don't fit/suit.

That’s way nicer. It does look as if it may be a bit large over your hips but I think you could get away with it it. It’s also quite long. What shoes are you wearing?

headwear · 06/08/2023 16:56

It is long, but the angle I've taken the photo makes it seems slightly longer I think. Sits just at my ankle.

Was planning to wear these sandals. I also have silver barely there sandals. Or a very pale pink pointy court, but I think there's something wrong with those. Need to dig them out.

Thanks for the suggestions.

The pale blue ASOS is out of stock.

The green and pink is too 'cold shoulder' for me.

I suppose I gravitate towards wrap dresses because of my unpredictable stomach. And because I wore one to the last wedding I went to and felt really good in it. This one:

Although that was a couple of years ago now:

Wow thats a lovely dress

Why cant you wear that one?

I agree with others, dont buy insipid colours in cheap nasty fabrics, you have a nice figure

Im so sick of only being able to buy stuff that you can actually try on when there are so few physical shops left now

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 06/08/2023 17:11

I personally am not keen on the ASOS dress, fit and colours. But it is much better!

Is there anywhere locally you could try something on?

I agree re this dress, it’s lovely! Maybe a jacket or different shoes to make it look darker deferent if that’s your concern?

headwear · 06/08/2023 17:17

I don't have that dress anymore. And I've already been shopping in my nearest city, with no success.

first one, the colour was wrong for you. it would have been much better in the blue or green paisley.

am same height as you and have this dress. I normally spend a lot more and not this style .. however, it comes up small and fits me like a glove . I wear as a long dress with gold platforms ( midi bit long on me )it hits the waist perfectly. ( and does not show clevage)
lots of next day delivery.

The halterneck dresses you have ordered look good- where are they from?

amberisola · 06/08/2023 18:42

The second dress is much nicer. You're a similar height and shape to me, and I think this cut suits you better as it's more fitted. Personally I can't wear anything with a wafty skirt, or an even slightly shapeless top, a belt only works if it sits slightly higher up, and I have to get shoulders taken in on almost everything. Very annoying!

CinnamonJellyBeans · 06/08/2023 18:57

Second dress is much better. Shoes are very dated and take the dress into bogstandard flowery dress territory. You need purple suede block heel sandals to make the dress look like you "meant" it

Awww, please don't @CinnamonJellyBeans

I'm desperate for a pair of Esska Valeries, but I just can't justify it right now!

They are ridiculously expensive I agree.
