I've been stalking these dresses for abour a year now. I love them but have no reason to buy either. Who can suggest or recommend me an occasion as an excuse?

Please feel free to add your dream outfit in need of an outing.

Google black tie charity ball tickets and see what comes up that you fancy supporting maybe? You could make a night of it with a group of friends.

Wear the navy one to the funeral of an old rich person.

Yup. Unless you're likely to be invited to a red carpet awards ceremony that's about it.
I'm not keen on either of them tbh. They both come in at least half a dozen colour options which I always find off putting.

I don't like splits in dresses. There was a recent thread from a poster lusting after two ridiculously impractical Erdem dresses. They were nicer.

I see a lot of spectacular dresses that would make me look like a badly-wrapped Christmas present 😂 This one stands the test of time.

The price tag on this one calls for a special occasion but I don't see it as being overly dressy that it would need a special function to be worn?

And weep.

Or be nominated for a BAFTA? Or the Kitchen Sink Manufacturer Awards 2023?

Failing that, Last Night of the Proms, the school end of term play, or Barbie at the Imax?

StaunchMomma · 30/07/2023 23:36

I do love stalking beautiful dresses.

Can you not have a girlie night with mates and theme it as 'Really OTT frocks'?

I love a shit theme. Wig and a curry night. T-shirts and tutus. My personal fave - Batshit items ordered from Shein.

These things just have to be done, hun.

Amazing idea. I'll start scouring the death notices.

Looks like a full length housecoat

EllaMenopee · 30/07/2023 23:42

I have form for buying ridiculous ball gowns and wearing them round the house (back in the before children times, when I had money and a waistline).

Clearly not frou frou enough for me, but I could see this being very striking at a chic gallery opening where everyone else is lovely to be in minimalist/scandi architect black

I love the sweep of the hem and the detailing at the back. There's yards and yards of material in that dress. It would sweep and swish along very grandly.

That's fantastic!

Which one will you choose for the school run next term?

GarlicGrace · 31/07/2023 00:06

Oooh, yes, I see, @NatashaDancing! You must wear it somewhere you can stalk enigmatically.

This is another fantasy dress. Not only because where would you wear it but a size "L" in Renli Su is a 12.

Actually an L is a 10 and a 12 is XL, not that the make anything in XL.

Actually, the pink one isn't a million miles from my very not traditional wedding dress!

You need to start a “black tie for the hell of it” Event! I remember reading, about ten years ago, about a charity who used to host a fundraiser where the dress code was “what you wore/would like to wear to your own wedding” - fantastic pictures of women getting another chance to wear their wedding dresses. Sadly of course you need to still be able to fit in it!

CaveMum · 31/07/2023 14:52

This has a nice “waft” to it. 45% off too - bargain!

If you live in the South east, I know a charity ball in September you could go to!

DisforDarkChocolate · 31/07/2023 15:02

I don't have anything that dressy but I could rock up to several formal events with much notice. Sadly lacking in 'a bit of a do' in my life.
