Fringe or Botox ? What do you do ?

Sorry for blunt question
my forehead lines are more obvious lately

I can afford Botox but know it’s short term and another regular expense if I like it ?

a fringe is an option but I have an ear length Bob and dark hair so it might be too much ? If I get a fringe I will need to wash it every morning and style to stay in place due to kink in my hair (this is ok - I tend to shower at night so this would be a two minute job?)

any tips or insight ? Maybe try Botox once to get an feel for how I would look

Also I find the chastising of women for having cosmetic treatments on threads like these really misogynistic.

I think normalising women injecting themselves with poison, usually to appear more to the male gaze, is misogynistic 🤷‍♀️

I went for a fringe

Mylefttoe · 22/07/2023 15:03

Botox.
I always swore I wouldn't do it. Until I did. After decades of less than perfectly corrected vision, I had savage 11s Nd looked perma-angry from squinting. I still have them, but they are now subtle and in keeping with my age.

People do not know unless I tell them, including one friend who swore blind she could always tell as she was dissing a mutual acquaintance for hers. She was genuinely stunned when I told her, because mine has been well enough to soften my wrinkles, but not enough to look like I have had it done.

It is not all or nothing. My face still moves.

And I didn't do it for 'the male gaze', I did it for me, because I wanted to. As part of a whole program of who am I in middle age, what do I enjoy, how do I want to look etc. I like it. 🤷‍♀️

@Brk the already normalised constant judgement and criticism of women whatever the fuck they do is worse.

SirChenjins · 22/07/2023 20:10

These procedures have come about because there is constant judgment and criticism of the natural ageing process.

Oh stop it it's not 1950's and it's really quite insulting, to be honest it says more about you though.

Too hot for a fringe? Grin

Definitely, I hate having hair touching my face when it's hot! I also never wear my hair down and touching my neck in summer. I am in Australia so summer is very hot and sweaty

My DH was discussing Botox options with me this evening. I think he looks lovely as he is but he disagrees, thinks he’d look fresher with a bit of tweaking. I worry it’s because his peers at work are a bit younger and he’s comparing himself but no, he says it’s just for him. He’s going to think about it a bit more.

The male gaze? Get over yourself. I get Botox for myself, not for anyone else.

pastypirate · 23/07/2023 14:00

@SouthernFashionista yes me too!! Literally have no interest in men's approval!

SAME! Because heaven forbid we want to feel good about ourselves 🤨

My DP did not want me to get Botox (tbh I think he thought I was getting a face lift not some muscles paralysed 🤣)

Botox, fringes are annoying. Tret is great for skin texture but it won't stop movement wrinkles. Botox also gives a bit of a eyelid lift

Tret ? I need some of this in my life.

Croissantsandpistachio · 02/09/2023 22:38

Neither, just have a forehead with wrinkles on it?

Purpleavocado · 02/09/2023 23:00

I use the skin + me one you get monthly. It's about the same price as the top end of Olay creams but is prescription strength. I wouldn't be without it.

Middleagedmeangirls · 03/09/2023 07:33

I'm not an either/or person. I have Botox to soften crows feet and lift my brows/eyelids so I look fresh and a fringe because it suits me.

Freshair1 · 03/09/2023 08:47

I had Botox and recommend. There's the merest hint of a brow lift as a result and I'm loving not having a default furrowed brow.

pharmachameleon · 03/09/2023 09:01

I have a fringe but I really need one as I have a long face and high forehead. Due to my fringe I have no forehead wrinkles (I'm 49) but I do have wrinkles between my eyebrows-11s. I get Botox once or twice a year for these and it's great. I also use tret but struggle with the dryness so thinking about ditching this.
