Fringe or Botox ? What do you do ?

AssertiveGertrude · 20/07/2023 12:44

Sorry for blunt question
my forehead lines are more obvious lately

I can afford Botox but know it’s short term and another regular expense if I like it ?

a fringe is an option but I have an ear length Bob and dark hair so it might be too much ? If I get a fringe I will need to wash it every morning and style to stay in place due to kink in my hair (this is ok - I tend to shower at night so this would be a two minute job?)

any tips or insight ? Maybe try Botox once to get an feel for how I would look

@Treacletoots please can I ask what you use from Face Gym?

Treacletoots · 21/07/2023 20:17

@Tiddlywinkly I just follow their workouts at home! Makes such a difference. I also own a gua sha, micro needling roller and the electric stimulating wand thingy 😄

Treacletoots · 21/07/2023 20:19

@SirChenjins skin&me or dermatica for tretinoin

I’m team fringe but I’ve had one nearly all my life so don’t really get this anti-fringe high maintenance angst tbf.Grin

Same here. I wouldn't ever consider Botox.

Tifalockhart · 21/07/2023 20:39

I’m not sure, my friend has just had Botox and while her forehead is now very smooth, her brow seems heavy and her eyes more closed than before. I’m not sure she looks better but she does look smoother.

gravitytester · 21/07/2023 20:44

I got Botox because of frownies, and I love it. Nobody except my closet friend noticed (I didn't tell anybody except my partner), but I feel so much more confident in photos because I know I don't look like I'm frowning.

Before every photo of my was with my brows raised to help hide it!

AnnaNims · 21/07/2023 21:03

A good Botox doctor is golden.

Mine does the most amazing job - a light touch and no weird eyebrows or rigid forehead. I have recommended her to so many of my friends who are also thrilled with their results, it's ridiculous.

Thepossibility · 21/07/2023 21:10

I get Botox on my birthday yearly because it's right before summer and too hot for a fringe. Otherwise fringe.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 21/07/2023 23:10

Remember when silicone implants were perfectly safe... until they weren't? I do wonder if Botox will be go the same way. Injecting poison into your body surely can't have a positive outcome.

Changinglegs · 21/07/2023 23:40

Fringe
. I’m late 40s and I might look older. Now I’m wondering if I look older because others my age are using filler. I wouldn’t notice and wouldn’t have it as have so much medical treatment I can’t imagine adding something not necessary. However I suppose I do get my hair coloured.

I do have Botox every three months but it’s in my leg at hospital to help me walk better as have cerebral palsy. I found it scary rather than exciting first time knowing the very rare but potentially serious side effects.

PuppyMonkey · 22/07/2023 07:56

Too hot for a fringe? Grin

Just grow old, there’s no shame in it.

Remember the ones who drink the elixir of youth always meet a sticky end in the movies.

Those of us having Botox aren’t doing anything immoral or unethical. We shouldn’t be deemed deserving of a a sticky end.

crossstitchingnana · 22/07/2023 08:09

Studies have shown Botox injections reduce empathic responses, so i'd go fringe.

You will like the rest of us do - somewhere around your mid to late forties. The ones of your age who use Botox will also look in their mid to late forties but with faces or foreheads that don’t move as much - the rest of their bodies will look their age. There is absolutely nothing wrong with looking the age you are - we’ve just become conditioned to think there is by a multi-million (billion?) beauty industry, and that the solution is to pump our faces full of toxins and other stuff.

SirChenjins · 22/07/2023 08:11

That first sentence made no sense - I meant as most of us do at our real age!

I wondered about that too.

olivehaters · 22/07/2023 08:16

I use botox but more baby botox and only about every 9 months. Been using for 3 years since is was 38 and it has stopped my 11s and horizontals becoming deeper. Actually think it my have reversed my 11s. I think it looks good in your late 30s and 40s while the rest of your face is still young but strange in your 50s when I intend to stop doing it and investigate other things. I can't wear a fringe as I have a cow lick.
I would also say get and LED light mask as this has really helped the texture of my skin. Wrinkles are not the only thing that age you.

CapEBarra · 22/07/2023 08:17

Botox is ‘a look’ in itself and if you just was a smooth forehead then go for it. It doesn’t look natural though, despite what people say, because it stops reacting in a way that aligns with the rest of your expressions, and some people end up with great shiny foreheads, and if you get your 11s done regularly you end up with those weird stump things between your eyes. So do it carefully if you’re doing it.

Stump things?

Gingerboy22 · 22/07/2023 11:18

I have both.

You do know that there are actresses out there who get botox in certain areas and can still use their foreheads? It's not all or nothing.

SirChenjins · 22/07/2023 11:34

And then their faces don’t work in synch. That’s before you look at the hands, neck and chest areas which definitely don’t match, and those duck bill lips that look like they’ve had an allergic reaction to something. Just no.

pastypirate · 22/07/2023 13:31

Botox with a really good doc. If you don't like it it's gone in 4 months. A fringe takes way longer to grow out!

pastypirate · 22/07/2023 13:32

Also I find the chastising of women for having cosmetic treatments on threads like these really misogynistic.

Brk · 22/07/2023 14:18

It’s such a personal decision. I think botox foreheads look really weird, I much prefer the look of wrinkles to that fake doesn’t move properly when I talk’ vibe. But it’s your head. 🤷‍♀️

Fringe totally depends on your face shape. In general I’d say it should work.
