Fringe or Botox ? What do you do ?

AssertiveGertrude · 20/07/2023 12:44

Sorry for blunt question
my forehead lines are more obvious lately

I can afford Botox but know it’s short term and another regular expense if I like it ?

a fringe is an option but I have an ear length Bob and dark hair so it might be too much ? If I get a fringe I will need to wash it every morning and style to stay in place due to kink in my hair (this is ok - I tend to shower at night so this would be a two minute job?)

any tips or insight ? Maybe try Botox once to get an feel for how I would look

I’ve tried both, Botox is better. Go to a decent practitioner though (I use a GP who does it privately)

Botox is good. Also recommend Tretinoin and Facegym. After a while you won't need the botox if you use these two.

Where do you buy Tretinoin from?

Animallover87 · 20/07/2023 22:04

I only get botox once a year. No-one would ever know but makeup goes on so much nicer and I just look fresher.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 20/07/2023 22:05

Botox

toomanyleggings · 20/07/2023 22:13

I have both. I don’t really consider a fringe to be high maintenance really. It’s quite useful because if you just wash the fringe it gives the impression you’ve washed it all. Fringes can be very flattering but it depends on all sorts of factors. You need to have quite thick hair as well because you’re cutting half your hair into your fringe so the rest is going to look thinner

AssertiveGertrude · 20/07/2023 22:32

Mid 40s

I have very fine hair but I backcomb it and use thickening stuff so it never looks to fine

really appreciate all the insights - I think I am not going to rush into anything just yet - summer is always worse I find (can’t see much in the dark evenings) 🤣

Fringes are typically too much faff. I'm another one recommending Botox, just choose a practitioner carefully.

Harrythehappypig · 20/07/2023 23:11

I got a fringe a couple of weeks ago and I like it much better. I also have fine hair and in the past I think I didn’t have enough hair included in the fringe so it would go all wispy. This time I’ve had a much more substantial one cut and it’s so much nicer. I think my face is more balanced with a fringe.

AnnaNims · 21/07/2023 00:03

Botox.

I was looking at photos of me when I was 37. I had 3 quite deep lines on my forehead. Now I’m 51 and I have none.

pastypirate · 21/07/2023 00:18

Botox it's far less maintenance than a fringe! Choose a salon on recommendation from people who have Botox and look good.

I've just started a Botox plan. I'm 44 and I left it too late for high forehead wrinkles but it's smoothed froen and crows feet lines.

Fringes are a bit meh

Ummm, maybe just don’t worry about it? Genuinely, why not just have wrinkles?

Cos it looks terrible. I don't mind the lines but the overall effect is 'christ, are you ok?' 'you look tired' or the killer, 'you feeling ok?' I do genuinely look like a reanimated corpse and my face is not making me happy so I will put stuff in it. I've another few decades so why not look nice?

Get it fringe it will look ‘French’

We don't owe anyone 'pretty'. How many of the men at your work @AssertiveGertrude use botox? Much less than the women if any I'm guessing.

I'm 52 and I don't have heavy lines on my forehead (note: I am not claiming to look younger than I am, I'm very clearly a middle aged woman). So if you do have heavy lines you've most likely smoked like a chimney or had a lot of sun exposure or otherwise abused your body. Adding more toxins to your body now will not make you look younger or better, it will just make you look different and unnatural. If you haven't smoked or had a lot of sun exposure then you're probably over magnifying your perceived faults and actually to other people you look absolutely fine and normal. The beauty industry has to make us feel bad about our appearance so we buy their products to make us look 'better' when there was nothing wrong with how we looked in the first place. Don't fall for it.

laalaaleelee · 21/07/2023 08:05

It's scary how common Botox is now and some people are so young when they get it - in their early 20s. We're making beauty standards for women even higher (let's face it, I don't know many men talking about Botox compared to women) and making women feel badly about themselves by upholding them to these unnaturally high standards.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 21/07/2023 08:50

...and lines on your forehead matter because? I'd just embrace them... and do...

You need better friends and family members to improve your self worth - not Botox.

Yeah, but they can't magically remove the wrinkles.

Animallover87 · 21/07/2023 12:06

I find it weird that folk on here can be so vehemently against botox. I know I look nicer with fewer wrinkles and it makes me feel good about myself, what's the harm?

Of course not - but they can stop being dicks. Wrinkles, lines, age spots and so on are not bad things - the harm that’s being done by this obsession with erasing the natural signs of ageing is that women (in particular) are under so much pressure to look a certain way by filling their faces with all sorts of stuff which is artificial and very often doesn’t look better. I see women of my age (mid fifties) and older with lips, cheeks and foreheads that quite obviously don’t match the rest of their body and just makes them look like middle aged women with stuff injected into their faces - not younger, fresher or whatever it is they think it does.
Many younger women who have no lines are putting themselves through all kinds procedures they don’t need to that are potentially giving themselves problems down the line - it’s not healthy, mentally or physically.

I know plenty of people who have injectables and I can’t think of one person who has done it out of pressure, it's something they do for themselves. I don't begrudge anyone that.

I agree that ageing is completely natural but some of us would like to kick it down the road for a few years, it doesn’t mean we are insecure or needing validation, I just much prefer myself without deep wrinkles on my forehead, it really is that simple.

The added bonus side-effect is that I now rarely get migraines, they used to be monthly. Win win.

AssertiveGertrude · 21/07/2023 13:27

I actually do get migraines quite a bit. I’m booked in for a small amount next week !! If I don’t like the look of it I won’t get it again

Societal expectations placed on women to look a particular way, especially after a certain age, is so deeply engrained that of course they don’t think of it as pressure.

Harrythehappypig · 21/07/2023 15:08

I agree. It’s not doing anything about the ageing process (getting more sleep is the best for that), it’s just injecting some poison into your forehead.

Exactly this.
