Very disappointed with Reiss

I’ve always considered it to be high end and so I recently ordered some new work wear items online. Spent a lot more than I usually would but I haven’t bought anything smart for work for a while so thought I’d make an effort. Oh dear. I was shocked to find the quality was really dire. A pair of £150 trousers were ill-fitting with cheap fabric and honestly looked awful in comparison with a pair I have from Next for a fraction of the price. Ditto for a similarly priced scratchy blazer (sale item).

The other items were ok-ish but just felt incredibly over-priced as the quality was average at best. A black sleeveless top that looked great online was in fact on a par with a similar one I bought from Peacocks years ago. Maybe my body shape just doesn’t suit their range. I was hoping that slipping into an expensive work wardrobe would transform me but I just looked like a lumpen frump in oddly shaped market stall clothes!

I’ve not bought anything new from Reiss ( picked up a few items second hand) but when I went to one of their stores recently I was shocked at the quality for the price. If I was going to spend that kind of money I would prefer to spend it on items that are easy to care of from All Saints. It might not be workwear appropriate but I do think that All Saints is markedly different from other brands and you can’t really find similar items in other shops. I don’t think you can say the same about Reiss.

I agree OP the quality has really plummeted. Slowly over the last few years. I ordered a jacket and it was so thin and looked cheap. About 25 years ago their work wear was great, quality fabrics and really stylish designs. I bet private equity have got involved and ruined the brand.

I noticed this about 10 years ago. It's a shame because I used to buy the majority of my work wear there. Very poor quality for the money

Slay1981 · 16/07/2023 23:23

Earlier this year I bought a plain black T-shirt from Reiss, I've just had to bin it because it's got several little holes in it. I'm really trying to slim down my wardrobe and buying better quality stuff instead of fast fashion so it's really annoying when a T-shirt from primark would probably have lasted longer

I‘m a recent All Saints convert. Definitely wouldn’t say all of their stuff is for me but they do have some lovely one-off pieces.

I'm so glad I saw this post as I was literally just about to do an order for some lovely looking linen shorts, shirts and summer dresses as I'm going away soon and wanted to treat myself. I remember from 'back in the day' Reiss was high end high street to me, sad to hear it's taken such a nose dive!

Mercurial123 · 17/07/2023 11:59

I haven't bought anything in Reiss for years as they are mostly synthetic and not great quality for women's clothing. Men's is much better. However, I bought a linen shirt a few months ago and the quality is surprisingly good.

Usernamen · 17/07/2023 12:16

The quality is not what it used to be, they’re just dining out on a reputation (that is slowly fading away).

Reiss is now only good for picking up an occasionwear dress in the sale (£100-150 is about right for their dresses rather than the £200-300 full price).

BA&SH and Rixo have sort of replaced Reiss, Maje, Sandro etc. for me now. So I recommend trying there.

breathequietly · 17/07/2023 12:21

Yes the quality has gone massively downhill. Spent £175 on a dress to wear to a couple of weddings last year and the button elastic ripped off on the first wear. Had to safety pin it

Oh dear…that criticism of Reiss didn’t go down well did it😭 It’s funny how people can take offence at someone expressing an opinion about a high street brand!

The dress in that thread is an example of the brand’s problem. It doesn’t look worth the original price point to me at all. I think they need to reassess their target audience. The people who were once willing to pay those prices with Reiss have now moved on to spend that budget on better quality. So they either need to sort out their manufacturing and design or lower prices accordingly.

Didn’t Kate M once wear one of their dresses? How the mighty have fallen😂

Agree OP. Massively overpriced for the quality (of lack of)

We reported to Reiss customer service a physical assault committed by the Westfield, White City store manager, Sarah, on both me and my husband, that happened around (4-4.30pm).

It is now 48 hours later and we have still not had a reply or call out of courtesy. The senior management of Reiss should be appalled by what one of their staff did to us in the store! Imagine if it was the other way around? We have also reported the assault to Westfield centre management and we will be contacting the police!

What kind of staff do they employ? If the assault was not enough, she also threw our Reiss shopping worth £1600 outside the store. Total disrespect not only for customers, but also for the Reiss brand and clothing.

We have never ever experienced anything like this before. Disgusting and unacceptable. This store manager is clearly in the wrong job.
