The low back with the crossed straps was very fashionable for a very short time c. 1984. Everyone (the teens I knew) had a top like that for one summer and then they were gone.

Is this the same or is it OK because it's not especially fashionable anyway?

The dress fits well, back doesn't gape like the picture and the colour suits me...

Go for it

Hottytotty · 13/07/2023 16:48

I think it’s really nice (not a maxi though surely - aren’t they to the ankle? Sorry I know that’s irrelevant!)

Whatames · 13/07/2023 16:50

I love the back! The cross straps make it!

It's nice, agree it's a midi though

RoseBucket · 13/07/2023 16:51

It has pockets! I’d buy it for that.

Timeandtune · 13/07/2023 16:53

What a lovely dress . Beautiful colour too.

Isn’t it funny how people see things differently? For myself, @RebelR, I would notice the colour, shape and fabric of that dress, and deem them ‘unfashionable’. I wouldn’t really discern anything particular about the back …

But the things I don’t like about it are the things you do. Tbh I imagine if your primary concern was being seen to be ultra fashionable you might not be shopping at Reiss, when there are so many places with a more contemporary … vibe (Blush).

So, if you like your reflection in the dress, by all means get it - no judgement!

It’s gorgeous OP. Do it!

That is the most sneery "constructive" criticism I've ever seen and I've been on MN a long time 😆

You handled it with aplomb! 😁

Tess3 · 13/07/2023 20:21

I think its gorgeous OP really classy!

Fleetress · 13/07/2023 20:26

Oddly enough I was attempting an honest conversation - and didn’t intend to sound sneery. Surely it is interesting that people like different things? Am I not allowed to say why I dislike something, while acknowledging that another person might have a different opinion? I’m not in any way suggesting one view is more ‘right’ than another.

You asked is it OK because it's not especially fashionable anyway?. I was trying to answer that - from my point of view. To me Reiss isn’t especially fashionable; it seems to have been around a long time, and hasn’t been exciting for a long time. I try to avoid shops that sell apparently nice clothes but don’t seem ‘fashion forward’ because I prefer to rely on a shop to sell me things that are, if that’s what I’m looking for.

But clearly I misunderstood your question and answered something you were not actually asking about.

Fleetress · 13/07/2023 20:28

Hmm ‘nice clothes that don’t …’

Leftbutcameback · 13/07/2023 20:34

I think the back doesn’t really suit the rest of the dress, IYSWIM. I do love the rest of the cut, especially the sleeves.
