What about Marc Jacobs? Radley? Ted Baker ?

No it's not second hand, they sell new ones, I'm not sure of they sell second hand ones. The Outlet also sometimes have them but there not the classic ones

All their bags are 'pre loved'. A euphemism for second hand. All their bags have been owned by someone before whether used or not.

I recently bought a small top handle bag, in white leather for the summer. All bags were the same size and similar styles and the order of prices from cheapest to most expensive were

Gucci
Dior
Chanel
Louis Vuitton

There was around 1k between Gucci and LV.

Gucci is funny because Alessandro Michele made it really popular, and so a ‘fashionable’ fashion label, but now he’s gone, it’ll be interesting what will become the new ‘it’ label. But being currently fashionable doesn’t make it any higher in the luxury categories, especially in pricing!

Okaydonkey · 20/07/2023 10:35

Correction there was £2410 between Gucci and LV.
Gucci was far cheaper than the others.

PegasusReturns · 20/07/2023 11:15

@Okaydonkey which Gucci bag were you looking at?

I think they’ve had a big price increase in recent years. I popped in the other day as I fancied a Diana and it was almost £3k

Okaydonkey · 20/07/2023 11:23

Yes, it was the Diana £2990, Dior Lady Di was £5k, Chanel £5200(ish) and LV £5400.

All bags have risen steeply in the last few years- these are small, phone and a lipstick type bags!

PegasusReturns · 20/07/2023 11:58

@Okaydonkey which did you go for?

I used to buy several bags a year but now feel prices are unjustifiable for me.

Okaydonkey · 20/07/2023 13:15

@PegasusReturns not telling 😂🤫 but it’s so pretty!

I feel the same- I bought 1 last year (which rose in price by £500 two weeks later!) and this will be it for a the foreseeable. It filled a gap and I don’t have any other gaps. I’ve definitely tried to buy more classic bags in so they are all used constantly.

Pinktruffle · 20/07/2023 14:37

My goal is to save for a Hernes bag for my 50th birthday, I have 10 years to save which should be more than enough time. It's just actually getting one.

Okaydonkey · 20/07/2023 15:02

Unfortunately Hermes, current policy is that you only get offered a bag if you spend enough with them. It’s rumoured to be £30k before you get the offer to buy your ‘wish’. That may change in the future though.

I started this journey then had a word with myself and now actively avoid Hermes because of it. Also because it’s the worst shop for customer service. Lovely once you get an assistant but there’s a lot of waiting around, until one comes to you. To me, that’s not a luxury experience!

There are always pre loved options though. If you don’t want a Kelly or Birkin though, lots of the other bags are unused. I suspect bought to get a Birkin offer. They are beautiful bags.

If you see 15 year olds using them on the way to school then no

If you can buy them in TKMaxx then no

I bought a Valentino bag in TkMaxx, is this not a high end designer anymore?

Pinktruffle · 20/07/2023 16:43

@Okaydonkey oh I am well aware of that. If I went for a Kelly or Birkin it would have to be pre-loved as I'll spend enough to be invited to buy new. I also quite like the Picotin which is substantially cheaper and can usually be bought new, maybe a Constance but I think I would prefer Picotin, it's more my style.

okiedokie1 · 20/07/2023 16:45

@mrsbyers I think Marc Jacobs has been ruined by the amount of fakes around and the fact that $30 can buy you a bag at outlet in the states etc
Although this hasn't put a dent in Chanel, Hermes and the most copied Louis Vuitton!

Sounds like a plan! Well worth the wait and investment, if you like bags.

I've got loads of Kate Spade bags, usually bought in the sale and I'd consider them affordable rather than luxury. At least I did until they employed Dylan Mulvaney to skip round one of their shops screaming at the pretty white bag and must have pink dress. Haven't used one since and I won't be buying any more.

Coach are a really good everyday bag. Wear well, not too expensive and very classic. I'm really reluctant to spend a lot of money on just one bag as I get bored of them very quickly.... Blush

Totally agree with this, I’m selling my KS bags on vinted.
I love mulberry, don’t think they are high st, not that it matters as I like the style of bags so I’d buy them anyway, plus Chloe. Not sure where Chloe sits but it doesn’t again really matter. I like Aspinal as well.

Brokendaughter · 20/07/2023 19:12

Kate Spade is definitely not high end & never will be if they are paying people like DM to flog it.

I think anyone churning out a fifty plus 'designs' at a time, who has 50% off sales, with no real stand out features to show you a bag is theirs is never going to be high end either.

Most of it looks like it could appear with an Asda logo on it at a store near you.

Thanks for your constructive and helpful perspective 🙄

There’s at least one such poster on every bag thread, keen to demonstrate their superiority and how they haven’t fallen for sniff branding (the horror!)

Bearpawk · 21/07/2023 16:15

Marc jacobs is part of the LVMH group.
The others I'd say are high street. Kate Spade luxury high street - Ted Baker Christ no. Cheap pink polyester monstrosities.
