As the title says
What about Marc Jacobs? Radley? Ted Baker ?

The eye roll is because most people understand “a high street brand” to mean “a brand that one might expect to have a presence on the high street” (with the usual caveats of pre Covid, perhaps in a shopping centre, perhaps only in affluent towns, etc). And Mulberry have only a tiny handful of stand-alone stores across the U.K. that aren’t in London.

Plus most people don’t consider £500-£800 for a bag high street prices.

PegasusReturns · 19/07/2023 18:33

@Whattheactualwhatnow I agree Mulberry is not high street. You might not like it, you might not consider it luxury but it’s definitely not high street

Plus most people don’t consider £500-£800 for a bag high street prices you can double that for mulberry these days.

Jubaju · 19/07/2023 18:36

How can people afford it…. Well most people with ‘LV and Loewe bags’ have been rinsing SaraMart and DHgate

Pablova · 19/07/2023 19:45

Tahitiansummer · 19/07/2023 17:53

Why the eye roll? Mike Ashley owns a 37% stake in the brand. Mulberry will never be viewed as anything but a vulgar high street brand because of this association.

Your disdain for the Fraser group doesn’t change the fact that Mulberry is not remotely in the same category as Primark, H&M, Next, Zara, all well known high street brands.

I've got loads of Kate Spade bags, usually bought in the sale and I'd consider them affordable rather than luxury. At least I did until they employed Dylan Mulvaney to skip round one of their shops screaming at the pretty white bag and must have pink dress. Haven't used one since and I won't be buying any more.

Coach are a really good everyday bag. Wear well, not too expensive and very classic. I'm really reluctant to spend a lot of money on just one bag as I get bored of them very quickly.... Blush

PegasusReturns · 19/07/2023 20:08

Thanks @SocksAndTheCity seems we both love a bag thread Grin

LadyBird1973 · 19/07/2023 20:39

The last time I bought a mulberry back was a few years before Covid and it was £745. I dread to think what they cost now. I don't think that's typical high street. Expensive high street are around £300 imo. I think there are probably some Mulberry concessions left in HoF (the ones that haven't closed down anyway), and John Lewis, which is high street, but it's still closer to lower end designer prices than high street.

doglover90 · 20/07/2023 00:16

I think Mulberry are struggling to shift stock - they've had some quite large discounts in sales lately, and they're appearing on discount shopping websites frequently.

Greenfree · 20/07/2023 00:25

I would say Marc Jacobs is a lower end designer. I hate ted bake and MK - the quality of their bags is not good. Most people can't afford or they save - I got a really nice Channel bag in the sale that I treated myself too! I had to persuade myself to buy it as I normally wouldn't spend tha much on a handbag and prefer nice quality ones without the label

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 20/07/2023 04:16

My mulberry Lily was £595 8 years ago. Now the same bag is over £1000!

LadyBird1973 · 20/07/2023 07:50

Mulberry became too expensive. I think they used to be more expensive than high street but not silly money. Then they started hiking up the prices and lost a lot of their existing customer base, while not making inroads into the market they were after so it's on them if they're struggling.

LadyBird1973 · 20/07/2023 07:53

And I'd guess their existing market were normal women who might now be wfh and less inclined to buy bags for work.

Mumtothreegirlies · 17/07/2023 07:51

Kate who? Marc jacobs who the hell is that? Ted baker was mini bottles of perfume with a free makeup bag from boots I thought.
I don’t do brands. It’s just clothes and means absolutely nothing to me.

Thanks for your constructive and helpful perspective 🙄

LadyBird1973 · 20/07/2023 08:06

I quite like ted baker. I bought a red leather flap bag with a chain years ago and it still looks like new.
I've a couple of Coach bags, one of which is a total workhorse but the gold colour is starting to wear off the metal now. The leather still looks like new though. I'm not sure my Mulberry is a 'better' bag quality wise (although it is very pretty ) despite the price difference.

PegasusReturns · 20/07/2023 08:17

@Greenfree channel? Sale?!

I’m prepared to be educated (as I have been already with Bottega bags in TK Max) but when has channel had a sale on handbags?!!!

Greenfree · 20/07/2023 08:18

Lol, I meant Chanel - it auto corrected

PegasusReturns · 20/07/2023 08:32

@Greenfree me too Grin

would love to know what you got in the Chanel sale and what the discount was.

Mulberry is not a high street brand Confused

Mulberry is a British luxury brand. May no longer hold the same appeal that they did ten years ago, but ‘designer’ Mulberry is, very mid range and not a head turner but designer nevertheless.

Greenfree · 20/07/2023 08:50

It was from a site called the handbag clinic, it's the smallest bag lol - they had £900 off it so I bit the bullet.

So not from the Chanel 'sale' then (which they famously don't do) but second hand.

Greenfree · 20/07/2023 09:04

No it's not second hand, they sell new ones, I'm not sure of they sell second hand ones. The Outlet also sometimes have them but there not the classic ones

Greenfree · 20/07/2023 09:07

I've just checked the site, they do sell used ones as well as new ones

Another here!

should have finished reading the thread. And start going to tkmaxx

The handbag clinic is a resale site. Saying you bought it in “the sale” implied directly from Chanel at a discount price
