Trainers to wear with dresses

I know this is a bit of a controversial subject on MN. I was hoping to get some recommendations for stylish daily looking trainers to wear with dresses. I have a lot of swing and skater type dresses, I don't often wear trousers. I usually wear ballet flats but would like some trainers for longer walks without looking like a geek.

Converse wedges trainers are the way forward with dresses 100%!

@Mylefttoe
I didn't destroy them. Washed them about 4-5 times.
I'm quite blasé about washing trainers. I've done it for years. I washed DD's boyfriend's Nike 95's last week - they were filthy and a mixture of fabric and leather and he was delighted at them being so clean. I don't see how they would be cleaned properly otherwise tbh. Rubbing with a damp cloth/soapy water would have just moved the dirt around.
I think that trainers get to a point of grubbiness that there's nothing to lose anyway as they become too riffy to wear.

The only pair I came a cropper with was fabric converse. The metal lace holes rusted into the fabric.

I put them in with a load of bath towels to pad the drum and spin on 600. I dry by the vent at the bottom of the tumble dryer that blows out warm air

@Mylefttoe I used to wash my Superga in the washing machine until a pair fell apart. The sole completely came away from the shoe and they were ruined. I hadn’t had them long. I don’t know why other pairs were fine and they weren’t as I didn’t do anything differently (washed them on a gentle wash, low heat with a load of towels). I wouldn’t risk it again and definitely not with leather.

I find leather trainers stay clean easily enough if you just regularly wipe with a damp cloth and a bit of shoe cleaning foam. Don’t let the dirt build up! For canvas, make sure they are dry and brush off as much dirt as possible. Then make a paste with baking powder and white vinegar. Scrub with an old toothbrush and leave them to dry in the sun.

Just seen this - have any of these pumps/trainers got arch support (or insoles that'd come out to put a shaped inner in.

I need to try and get to a shop before I go away but not sure I'll be able to

Veja have removable insoles.

Leather ones? Won't it destroy them?

Surprisingly not. I’ve washed both leather Nike Jordan’s and Adidas Superstars as well as trainers with bubbles like Nike 270s. It did damage the insoles of the Superstars after a few washes.

Shihtzulover · 01/08/2023 22:48

I’m not sure they are to everyone’s taste

Pavers.

  1. Allbirds. I have them in lots of styles and colours. They are LIGHT weight and have support, so great for walking. And can be washed in machine.
  2. Fitflop. I have these in loads of styles and colours. great support and LIGHT.

for walking comfort, AVOID Superga--heavy, so hard on feet and legs.

crowisland · 23/08/2023 18:17

I've worn both Birkenstock and MEPHISTO for decades--fantastic support, a bit more pricy but they last forever, so cheaper in the long run. Both brands make lots of styles, some of which are less clunky than you might imagine

Which style of Allbirds do you have?

I love all of these:
Tree loungers in both wool and the mesh
Tree Runners
Wool Runners
Wool runner mizzles

These are the only ones I have trouble withTree Breezersthey slip off a bit. Could be my narrow heels...

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 23/08/2023 21:08

Thank you @crowisland. I've got so many problems with my feet and I just want something comfortable!

crowisland · 23/08/2023 21:23

When I had PF the doctor recommended HOTTERS. For a year they were all I could wear. I still do!

professionalnomad · 23/08/2023 21:40

Another vote for Supergas - so comfortable and they look great
I have the glittery rose gold ones and they go with everything (in my eyes!)
