Trainers to wear with dresses

I know this is a bit of a controversial subject on MN. I was hoping to get some recommendations for stylish daily looking trainers to wear with dresses. I have a lot of swing and skater type dresses, I don't often wear trousers. I usually wear ballet flats but would like some trainers for longer walks without looking like a geek.

Adidas Superstars are my most comfortable trainers and they don't make my big feet look too huge!

Also love my Air Forces but they may be too heavy looking for you if you prefer the Stan Smith etc style.

BettyOBarley · 23/07/2023 22:36

I got some Stan Smiths the other day and had to take them back as the tongue was weirdly long and so uncomfortable rubbing on the front of my leg, don't know what's happened to them...

Ted baker trainers. Stylish and so so comfy

Moneynewpence · 23/07/2023 23:05

Why on earth is it "controversial"? Wear what you want.
Superga all the way here.

My sister has just bought these and they are a great alternative to ballet flats as they're quite delicate (and slip-on). She originally saw them in The White Company but they've sold out there so you need to buy them direct:

Just got a pair of this brand and they are very comfortable. Limited sizes left in sale. Unisex but John Lewis have put in men's section.

@Stoic123 thanks for the recommendation. Any thoughts on how big/small these come up? They only have full sizes so I will need to either go up or down.

It's so interesting isnt it. I always thought if have all my kids in my 20s but that wasnt how life worked out.

When I'm 40 I will have a 3 year old an11 year old and a 7 year old. Itll still be the soft play years for me 😬😂

Get converse not vans unless you want to look dated.

LancreWowhawk · 27/07/2023 12:45

I adore my Allbirds, but I wouldn't recommend them in white. They looked really grubby really quickly. In other colours, they are amazingly comfortable though.

Because if how dirty the Allbirds looked, when I replaced them I was determined not to have fabric or suede. I've ended up with Stan Smiths, which are super comfy.

I didn't like Vejas, personally - they seemed to ride really high on my ankle bone, they would have been really uncomfortable for me.

Why are vans dated? I thought they looked quite similar to converse but I don't know a lot about fashion.

Here you go. "Dated" gets thrown out so authoritatively on here.

Another vote for Rocket Dog, love their Jazzin range!

Anything but New Balance. Default choice of the imagination free suburban snob.

tothesea · 30/07/2023 15:05

I got these for my holidays and love them. I’m going to be super careful with them so they still look okay for next year! They took no breaking in and are comfortable. Gola sizes seem to be true sizes as well which is very important when you are a ‘true’ 8 and not a godamn European 7.5 (bitter)

Vejas campo are super comfy for me and no breaking in required. The other styles aren't comfy- the tongue is too high. New balance don't fit me- completely in between sizes- either too big or too small.

blahblahblah1654 · 30/07/2023 17:45

I bought the converse dainty trainers and they didn't fit so I'll buy the Rocketdog ones. They're so nice!

I’m currently alternating between white leather converse, bright pink converse high tops and bright apple green converse low tops. The converse loyalty is strong. I really don’t like the current fashion for wearing what I think of as “trainer trainers”- the kind you could actually go for a run in- with dresses or even with jeans. I think it looks scruffy and wrong. Especially if they’re black.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 30/07/2023 18:27

I took a chance on @Stoic123's good news recommendation and they fitted (sized up to UK6) so that's me sorted.

Lemonyyy · 30/07/2023 18:41

I find it really interesting that converse are not considered dated as I was wearing them with dresses 20 years ago (still wearing them now but I have accepted I am not fashionable lol)

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 30/07/2023 19:10

I wish I could wear Converse but they just have no support 😢

Scottie13 · 30/07/2023 19:12

I’m in love with Nike Air Force 1’s just now. The junior ones seem to be quite big made so you may find you can actually get junior size 5.5’s and they’ll fit
