Trainers to wear with dresses

blahblahblah1654 · 16/07/2023 17:54

I know this is a bit of a controversial subject on MN. I was hoping to get some recommendations for stylish daily looking trainers to wear with dresses. I have a lot of swing and skater type dresses, I don't often wear trousers. I usually wear ballet flats but would like some trainers for longer walks without looking like a geek.

Sketcher trainers are super comfy with great colour choices as well as plainer colours.

Tiredjoanna · 18/07/2023 08:59

Converse or vans you can't go wrong

KitchenSinkLlama · 18/07/2023 09:02

My white leather converse are still going strong after a fair few years.

Anything but Vejas.

Why not Vejas?

blahblahblah1654 · 18/07/2023 09:49

I love the slimmer/dainty ones. The chunky new balance ones look so comfy and trendy but I'm a size 6 and 5 foot 1 so my feet look a bit boat like in larger styles!

Why not Vejas?

I’m going to guess because they’re especially popular and the PP wants to be “different” 🙄

HaveYouHeardOfARoadAtlas · 18/07/2023 10:50

I'm currently wearing Nike Dunks and I do get compliments and get stopped and asked what they are.

DiscoDeborah · 18/07/2023 10:58

I wear Vejas, Superga and Converse and love them all. I've got those converse dainty ones and they're so nice with dresses and I also wear them with light turnup jeans.

I know Veja are ruled out for lots because they're a bit 'mum uniform' but I still wear mine.

I hate my Vejas, they are the most uncomfortably trainers I've ever owned.

I love my old Stan Smiths but they are now out for me since they don't make them in leather. I tried the vegan ones but they were hard and uncomfortable.

The search continues!

Except that she then recommends stan smiths and vans… hardly unique!!

Jemimapuddleduk · 18/07/2023 14:30

Hoff trainers are supremely comfortable. I also like adidas gazelles.

pambeeslyhalpert2 · 18/07/2023 14:30

I love my Nikes. Esp Nike air they're SO comfy

Escapetofrance · 18/07/2023 18:24

I love my vejas! I also like some gals trainers in different colours-so comfortable.

hairtodaygonetm · 18/07/2023 20:06

@SwishSwishBisch you'll be pleased to hear I'd also say 'anything but birkenstocks' if asked about sandals.

Both ugly and over priced, IMO. (The last bit is important @SwishSwishBisch because that's what forums are about. No need for eye rolling).

simplespimply · 18/07/2023 21:12

I resisted Vejas for while because of their popularity but could not find anything I liked that were comfortable on my wife feet, I tried a pair of Vejas and they were perfect; comfortable and no breaking in period I wear them everyday now.
If you want something non chunky then Veja Campos are slimline and Stan Smith's are not very chunky either.

Birkenstocks overpriced? They aren't cheap but they last ages. My favourite pair are 11 or 12 years old and still going strong!

SoShallINever · 18/07/2023 21:56

Superga.

Stilloutonthelast · 19/07/2023 00:19

If you feel good and you don't think you look stupid, go for it and bullocks to others.

OneHappyMomma · 23/07/2023 13:12

I live in my Supergas - they are so comfortable, just traipsed the length and breadth of Florence in 39C and no hint of sweaty feet. They are really comfy and I have several in different colours. If you're looking to wear them with dresses, you might also opt for their macrame ones which also come as mules.

Agree with you on that hairtodaygonetm. Though I did have Birks, over 10 years old and sold them on ebay for £45 this summer so super happy with that.

Vejas, I went through a stage of wanting a pair until I saw how popular they were which put me off. Yes of course there are brands that are as popular (vans, Nike etc) but Vejas all look the same so because that's all there is to it, it's not for me. I also feel that way about the blocky type heel NB trainers every woman that isn't wearing Vejas seems to be wearing.

SamW98 · 23/07/2023 16:16

I’m strictly Vans or Adidas. I absolutely love Gazelles but I know they divide opinion.

Don't your feet slip out? They look very low at the back

@HornchurchClaire Veja esplar and campo look pretty similar and there are a lot of them about. But they also do other models (venturi for example) that are a totally different style. Yes there’s not as much variation as a bigger brand like Nike but it’s not true to say they all look the same.

I agree with you about the NB ones though. Took the kids to the park today and at least half the women there had those on. I thought they looked really scruffy but lots of people seem to swear by them and say they are really comfortable.

olivehaters · 23/07/2023 22:11

Currently liking high tops with thick white socks. No more trainers socks that ride down your feet!
